@MairacleMaker10 Not necessarily Im using a towel right now because Mocha's feet are very sensitive. They're actually easier to clean especially now that she is somewhat potty trained. And I usually just vacuum up the occasional poop that are not in her litter box.
My baby guinea pig finally popcorned in front of me for the first time ever since I brought her home when I placed her in her new C&C cage! I'm so happy she's happy! :) love my little Mocha! If only I can convince my bf to get her a friend :-/ he's so worried about the extra costs of another piggy.

@TheBBGirl4 Jerry only lived for three years. He had bladder stones and the surgery went fine but... he was really out of it... he couldnt move or pick up his head.... he died in his sleep, we didnt have to put him down.

@PandK365 Nope! I think I got the pack of grids from back to school clearance and the corrugated plastic board (coroplast) I got for free from work (retail). So, I got a *really* great deal, but even if I had to buy it all full price, it would still be less than $50. That's the best part of making the C&C cages.
@metalhead4700 I made the cage using the info from guineapigcages (dot) com and I clean it with a large metal putty spatula and a bucket lined with plastic shopping bags. Once it's empty, I vacuum the remains of the litter and clean the plastic base with paper towels and an all natural glass cleaner like Green Works. Hope that helps!

When they go crazy and squeak real loud and run to the door of the cage when i squish a plastic bag, that means theyre happy/wanting food right? They know that sound from the bag of romaine hearts i feed them so i assume its cause they are craving that lettuce, right?
Would getting 2 large cages and cutting out the right end on one of them and the left end on the other and sticking them together with zip ties and glue be dangerous for the piggies? I could put like a wood bridge over it so they could climb over to the other side. I want to be creative in making a cage but i just cant seem to find cloroplast for my grid & cube cage!
@blackbear1297 I suppose, if you make sure there are no rough edges that they might cut themselves on, but buying two store-purchased cages may be more expensive than just ordering the supplies for the C&C cage online. Do you already have the grids? You just need the cloroplast? Have you tried looking in the phone book or googling a local sign making company? They're usually closer than you think.

@sophie97cola You should find a breeder near you and get a couple! They really do lighten up the mood :) Mine are so nice to have around. They're perfect snuggling buddies when you're sad and they also are great if you want to laugh(: I have 4 currently, they are all so loving and snuggly i love them. They kept breeding on accident when i couldnt tell the gender of one. I had 6 at one point, that was crazy. 2 is probably the best number of guinea pigs you could have.
@blackbear1297 I got my cubes at Walmart years ago, but I haven't seen any recently. Since I work at Walmart, I was able to get the cloroplast for free from their left over signing. guineapigcages(dot)com has a lot of good information, including a section where people list sightings of places they've found the supplies.

i got a question. i got a guinea pig. only 1 . he have been here for about a month now, and i think he feels a little alone. when is he old enough to get a friend? how old should the friend be? He is born the 9th of april :) cheers
@skyworldz He can have a friend any time. If he is a male, then make sure the friend is also male, otherwise you'll soon have way more piggies then you intended! :D The friend could be 8 weeks to as old as he is now. You'll have better luck with males getting along if you introduce at least one of them at a young age. The little guy will look up to the older one. Walnut was about 8 weeks old when I introduced him to Sgt. Pepper, who was about a year and a half old.
I've got a guinea pig question. I just got him and his name's Ham. whenever I try and pick him put he runs away like crazy. but if I put my hand in the cage he comes straight to it and starts nibbling on it. suggestions anyone?
I've accidently conditioned my piggy that when he hears his water bottle and a bag rustling he squeeks even though sometimes he already has food and water. How do they get through that tiny toilet tissue tube? Mines would never fit.
@fantasticanime2010 They don't go through the paper towel tube. It was a toy. They like picking things up and batting them around. I also have a couple little balls with bells in them that they like to nose around.

I think these adorable piggies were popcorning over the crinkled bag sound was probably bc they thought a treat was coming. xD It happens to piggies to. Since most of the treats we give piggies r in plastic bags, when they hear that, they know something delicious is coming. Have you had an injuries/issues with the metallic (can) tunnel? I usually have an oatmeal container tunnel in my pig's C&C cage, which gets dirty and must be replaced frequently. I'd love to hear about your experiences.
I've been using metal cans for years. If you're afraid of sharp edges, just file along the edge with a fine metal file. Bingo, smooth edges in a durable guinea pig tunnel!
is it common for guinea pigs to popcorn on your lap whilst being handled? i have a single boar and handle him many times a day so he doesnt get lonely and recently he has taken to jumping around on my lap!
I don't know if it's easier, but it's certainly not any harder. The trick is that you don't have to change ALL the litter at once like you would in a smaller cage. They usually have regular potty areas in the corners because they have enough room to do it. I clean the corners every few days and then push the remaining litter, which isn't even wet, into those corners. I then pour fresh litter into the center.
It's easier to clean the C&C cages because the larger the space, the less mess there will be. If you think about it - if you lived in one tiny room or one large room with the same amount of stuff, which do you think would get messier sooner?
Well think about it - if you lived in a dorm room, and it had a bed, a dresser and a desk plus all of your things and then took those same pieces of furniture and things and put them into a room 3 times the size of that dorm room, The dorm room would seem more crowded and get messy sooner.
I know, I'm trying to convince my mom to get me a second guinea pig (I learned they're a lot happier in pairs) and getting one of these C&C cages because I hate how small my pig's cage is.
That's a great C&C cage! So nice to see someone on here with a proper guinea pig cage. I don't see a veggie bowl though. Do they have unlimited access to hay?
They get fresh red peppers every morning since they're LOADED with vitamin C. They won't let me forget! Additionally, they get other random veggies every few days. I've since added a hammock in the corner where I drop their hay.
Red peppers are also high in sugar. The green tend to be the better of the two. It's funny, some of my guineas love green peppers and some don't even touch them. They definitely have their own distinct preferences. Some like parsley, some couldn't care less about it.
Green peppers only have 1/3 the vitamin C, though. It's absolutely amazing; whenever one of my piggies are feeling under the weather, he gets extra red peppers and by the next day he's all better. Sgt. Pepper ( the gray one)'s name certainly fits him. He would eat red peppers all day if you let him, which is why he only gets 1/4 a red pepper in a day. Walnut prefers carrots, but no more than 3 in a day. Although, either one of them will dive into a pile of romaine lettuce!
That's okay, they can get vit C from other sources. Veggies are a good one. Fruits should be fed only occasionally.
Darn green leafy lettuce like romaine, also parsley and cilantro are good.
Bell peppers are good, carrots are good but whole carrots (or baby ones) should be given only as an occasional treat. Carrot matchsticks are fine on the daily salad because it's a very small serving.

i got a question. i got a guinea pig. only 1 . he have been here for about a month now, and i think he feels a little alone. when is he old enough to get a friend? how old should the friend be? He is born the 9th of april :) cheers

@skyworldz He can have a friend any time. If he is a male, then make sure the friend is also male, otherwise you'll soon have way more piggies then you intended! :D The friend could be 8 weeks to as old as he is now. You'll have better luck with males getting along if you introduce at least one of them at a young age. The little guy will look up to the older one. Walnut was about 8 weeks old when I introduced him to Sgt. Pepper, who was about a year and a half old.

I've got a guinea pig question. I just got him and his name's Ham. whenever I try and pick him put he runs away like crazy. but if I put my hand in the cage he comes straight to it and starts nibbling on it. suggestions anyone?

I've accidently conditioned my piggy that when he hears his water bottle and a bag rustling he squeeks even though sometimes he already has food and water. How do they get through that tiny toilet tissue tube? Mines would never fit.

@fantasticanime2010 They don't go through the paper towel tube. It was a toy. They like picking things up and batting them around. I also have a couple little balls with bells in them that they like to nose around.

I think these adorable piggies were popcorning over the crinkled bag sound was probably bc they thought a treat was coming. xD It happens to piggies to. Since most of the treats we give piggies r in plastic bags, when they hear that, they know something delicious is coming. So these r like "ooooohhhh! a new place AND a treat?! *happy happy happy* " Adorable video!

haha that's so funny yeah one of my girls is really bad if she hears the slightest crinkle of a plastic bag she starts wheeking so loudly it's crazy. I need to try your trick to stop her doing that lol, she keeps waking up my roommate who does nightshift! She just gets louder when she doesn't get food lol.

Have you had an injuries/issues with the metallic (can) tunnel? I usually have an oatmeal container tunnel in my pig's C&C cage, which gets dirty and must be replaced frequently. I'd love to hear about your experiences.

I've been using metal cans for years. If you're afraid of sharp edges, just file along the edge with a fine metal file. Bingo, smooth edges in a durable guinea pig tunnel!

Why are bigger cages easier to clean? i dont get that i mean alot of people say thats true wouldnt it be harder to clean cause its bigger?

I don't know if it's easier, but it's certainly not any harder. The trick is that you don't have to change ALL the litter at once like you would in a smaller cage. They usually have regular potty areas in the corners because they have enough room to do it. I clean the corners every few days and then push the remaining litter, which isn't even wet, into those corners. I then pour fresh litter into the center.

It's easier to clean the C&C cages because the larger the space, the less mess there will be. If you think about it - if you lived in one tiny room or one large room with the same amount of stuff, which do you think would get messier sooner?

Well think about it - if you lived in a dorm room, and it had a bed, a dresser and a desk plus all of your things and then took those same pieces of furniture and things and put them into a room 3 times the size of that dorm room, The dorm room would seem more crowded and get messy sooner.

They get fresh red peppers every morning since they're LOADED with vitamin C. They won't let me forget! Additionally, they get other random veggies every few days. I've since added a hammock in the corner where I drop their hay.

Red peppers are also high in sugar. The green tend to be the better of the two. It's funny, some of my guineas love green peppers and some don't even touch them. They definitely have their own distinct preferences. Some like parsley, some couldn't care less about it.

Green peppers only have 1/3 the vitamin C, though. It's absolutely amazing; whenever one of my piggies are feeling under the weather, he gets extra red peppers and by the next day he's all better. Sgt. Pepper ( the gray one)'s name certainly fits him. He would eat red peppers all day if you let him, which is why he only gets 1/4 a red pepper in a day. Walnut prefers carrots, but no more than 3 in a day. Although, either one of them will dive into a pile of romaine lettuce!

That's okay, they can get vit C from other sources. Veggies are a good one. Fruits should be fed only occasionally.
Darn green leafy lettuce like romaine, also parsley and cilantro are good.
Bell peppers are good, carrots are good but whole carrots (or baby ones) should be given only as an occasional treat. Carrot matchsticks are fine on the daily salad because it's a very small serving.
