I saw them on July 13th in Minneapolis. I was front row for the entire 10 hour show.
I went from having ZERO use for Metallica to being a fan after watching and hearing 49,000 people chant:
"Die Die Die!" .
That + seeing James hock a loogie, a fan blowing on him sending it back over his shoulder onto Lars, who then had his drum/snot roadie sneak up and towel him off and they didn't miss a beat.
Lmfao!
If you wanna see the car I drove, and the clothes I wore that got me front row: see my channel
@mrjro2...I meant Before the black album came out And Justice for All was the album they were making at the time....sorry if I should have been more clear..
I was at this show. I still got the ticket. Metallic was awesome. They play a song from their "new" album called "Savage heritage"....later when the Black album came out it was re-titled "Harvester of Sorrow"! This was a killer show...I'll never forget it!!
DAMN WAS THERE I STILL GOT THE TICKET FROM THAT CONCERT THE OPENING BAND WAS KINGDOM COME...THEY SUCKED.. THEN THIS GUYS ,DOKKEN, SCORPIONS AND VAN HALEN MY TICKET COST ME 30 BUCKS........23 YEARS AFTER... THEY SHOULD BRING FESTIVALS LIKE THAT...
I WAS AT " THE MONSTERS OF ROCK " AT R.F.K. STADIUM IN WASHINGTON.D.C. on JUNE 8, 1988. I HAD JUST GRADUATED & HITCH HIKE TO THIS SHOW. AWESOME FROM BEGINNING TO END. YOU ALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE.

if You want to play like James Hetfield, as I wanted when I was a kid check what LIVE GIGS in home for neighbours can DO with skills ;] KLICK on my profile or just copy xxx.youtube.com/watch?v=V-E_U7ybp9c , IF YOU WANT SOMETHING, YOU WILL GET IT !!! but remeber that is only I think for younger fans, now more important is music PEOPLE !!! RECORD YOUR OWN MUSIC AND PUT IT TO YOUTUBE !!! Metallica dont have any successor, nobody even try I think to make music on MetallicA level :(
@freafollingalianz --DUDE!! I was right in front for 9 hours that day! I was blown away with Metallica..i was not there for Metallica but a fan ever since! Still got my ticket!PE@CE
I WAS THERE TOO!!! I was in the upper section to the right of the stage. You should have seen the ENTIRE Stadium pumping there fists in the air and screaming MASTER!!!! A moment i will NEVER FORGET!!!! AWESOME!!!!!
Best Show EVER!! I was at this show back in the day, jumped the wall to get on the floor. Although most of bands prior to Metallica coming on were pretty good, once Metallica hit the stage it seemed like all the air was sucked from the stadium and the place erupted like a giant bomb! Once Guns n Roses hit the stage it seemed like I was listening to the EZ-listening jazz station on the radio! I feel sorry for Metallica fans who have never experience them at this time in their career!
I was at this show also in NJ at giants stadium....scorpions kicked ass...I thought dokken would have been much better but at least i got to see them.....That was a long show but was happy to have gone there.....I didnt care for kingdom come the opening act...
my dad went to the monsters of rock 88 i think in new hampshire or somehting like that he said it was fucking great especially when van halen was sup[posed to be cancelled cause there were masive thunderstorms in the area so they couldnt fly in but showed up in the middle of metallicas set in a helicopter . mewtallica was pretty pissed . my dad excited . if i was there i would of stayed and headbanged to metallica lmao
my dad went to the one at the akron rubberbowl and he said scorpions were the best the others were good van halen was so loudest thing he ever heard and that metallica's fans came up for them and then moved back after they were done
@vemund1144 I think it's pretty obvs from Youtube vids that they clearly don't. James voice isn't what it once was, and they've slowed down now when they play this song live.
Where the hell was this show? It can't be germany because that was 88 and I was there and it was super fuckin hot that day! This must of been the Monsters in the U.S. because Dokken was not on the bill in germany.
that and whatever amateur camera this was recorded with was woefully under-prepared to record the full-blast amplified sound that comes at it during a metal show. If it doesn't have an input direct from the soundboard, then it's going to be a pretty piss-poor representation of the sound in real life.
wtf man ? do you think that the quality of a recording can fuck up their tuning ? the notes are still the same, its the entirety that sounds crappier, the quality of the video cant affect the notes. get over it fanboy
lol. I'm no Metallica fanboy. I can't stand most of their stuff much anymore. At any rate, I posted that before the solo came in, and yes, I will admit that there were some tuning issues, but the recording CAN still degrade on an analog medium (such as this was recorded on) to the point where the tune becomes warped and appears to be off. It is highly possible, though in this case there were obvious actual tuning issues with the guitars, I'll admit that.
Incorrect. Old VHS tape can drastically distort the sound of guitars making them sound "wobbly". Just record yourself with an old camcorder and with a computer at the same time. Compare the results.
yes it was a great show, hot, real hot in front of the stage and the crowd rushed the staged hard core, went nuts, it was very very very loud and a great set! full house.
I was at this show too. I had been a Metallica fan since the "Ride The Lightning" album. It was great to see them live. Dokken was great too, I've seen them several times since, in smaller clubs, last time at the Metal Factory in Lauderdale maybe 6 years ago.
Wow, I almost gave up on the fans. I was one of the lucky few that was on the crew for this beast tour. It was huge. 2 separate installs leapfrogging cities. The bands flew in jets from one city to the next andwe rode on the bus. Wild times in those buses. ;-)
Showlites ruled the world. Thank god I survived to see this finally on the Tube. Go for your dreams boys and girls.
No. I was on the total event Roadcrew. I was the Robotic Technology Technician. (I Fixed the moving lights) Because this was an all day show, very little lites were used in the day. Metallica was like at like 4 in the afternoon then Scorps then VH. I was in the rig for VH. That was wild with the Pyro and Eddies drums that raised about ten feet. Got burnt twice. It was great. But we all hung out like family. I videoed as much as I could with All Access.
Saw them at the Akron Rubber Bowl show summer 1988. Freaking so goddam hot they had to spray us with hoses. I still have spots on my arm from the sunburn I got. Metallica should have played later in the day.
i was 13 and way far back in the Meadowlands, but yeah, that's it.... they played "harvester of sorrow" before "and justice for all..." was out, and me and my friends thought it was too long..... then we heard the album and realized it wasn't even one of the best songs.
@shiner11 So was I. Can you believe Dokken had to follow these guys? I'd say there were at least 50,000 people wearing Metallica shirts at that show that day. I can't remember anyone rocking a Dokken T...
