  • @AcceptNoBullshit Thank you, cunt.

  • @AcceptNoBullshit apologies i meant go fuck yourself if you wish.

  • @AcceptNoBullshit yes. i am. thank you. fuck you.

  • @AcceptNoBullshit Thats good, bitch.

  • RW advising single men to use sex toys or have sex with watermelons? F^ck RW watson! F^ck anyone who supports her! Dawkins is right.

  • @AcceptNoBullshit RK insulted men. Men just insult back. Deal with it.

  • What i didnt like about her video was her saying "guys.. dont do that..;)" I wonder how she would've reacted if the roles was reversed and a guy posted a video about that encounter and then said "girls.. dont do that ;)" - especially if you are publicy expressing yourself as someone who prefer one gender over another.

  • I felt totally violated when i saw that negro in my neighbourhood. he probably wanted to rob me or rape my gf. i felt so uncomfortable. i wish he'd understand that. And those muslims getting on my flight might have blown it up. don't they know how us atheists feel after what happened on 9/11? i i dont care if there is zero evidence of that, Treating every man as a rapist, every black guy as a criminal, and every muslim as a terrorist is the ONLY way to protect yourself i tell you...

  • I think your take on RK's intentions with this statement are a little naive. You only have to look at her blog to see what she thinks about the terms she used such as sexualised, objectified. you will get a very different picture of her intention and meaning behind her statements. The problem here is the import of emotionally charged accusatory language into a mere discussion about how 'uncomfortable' a person 'feels'. It's seen as an attempt to erect more social barriers between sexes.

    (Cont.)

  • @Christopholaes Not to mention the enormous amount of attention she has now gotten for this little debacle. And for her cause, which I think was the point. As a side note there was a nasty reaction to her whole talk at the conference as many felt she was injecting the interests an already well represented community. Into a much maligned, and already controversial enough community. It seems a little convenient that hours after many slammed her on blogs, she has an incident to prove her point?

  • Look, I'm a guy and I agree with everything you said. There are extremes on both ends. These men (if you can call them that) want full freedom to degrade women down to nothing, making judgmental statements about all women, yet when a woman goes a bit too far and does the same, they get all butthurt and throw tantrums like infants. It's pathetic.

  • Honestly? I think this turned out the way it did because a lot of people who simply don't like Ms. Watson. I'm starting to think this had little to do with feminism at all. I also think that Dawkins was at the end of his aggravation point with her and that helped him to say what he said. People just don't like her.

  • My issue with this is that if we were to say this to any other group then we would rightfully be called bigoted. I was at the bar and a guy asked me for change for a 5 and I say I don't have change for less than 20. It comes to 4 am and I head off to bed. A black guy follows me and says do you have change for a 10. Listen black guys don't do that it makes me feel uncomfortable I am a white guy in a foreign city at 4am in an enclosed space. How is one statement ok and the other not?

  • @AcceptNoBullshit The expression of sexuality is a guaranteed United Nation's civil right -- and that includes male sexuality. Any approach or flirting, no matter how clumsy, is male sexuality. All the woman has is the equal freedom to say "No Thanks". His right to solicit women in an elevator or anywhere is as protected as gay rights in the U.N. charter. Go to BlogTalk Radio and listen to the "A Voice For Men" broadcasts.

  • @AcceptNoBullshit not taking sides? Really? Your side seems quite apparent. The scenario in no way warranted the reaction it received and as far as I know coffee is not erotic. I wouldn't know though... mammalian reproduction disgusts me o.O

  • If you think every man is hitting on you, you either have a HUGE ego, or think all men are predators. One or the other. I saw the video, it was ridiculous. Maybe he shouldn't have done it in a little elevator box, maybe she felt closed in? Who knows.

  • I'm thoroughly bored with the whole topic... humans are continuously disappointing me o.O All of this over coffee...

  • I couldn't agree with you more! I can't disagree with anything you said. You are spot on in my opinion. This whole Elevator Gate (and the gate thing kills me too!) is not needed. I hope you cheer up and no longer feel like poo. :-)

  • I'll tell you, my wife has had to do quite a lot of reassuring for me. I know I started off my video really rough but I meant well.

  • @rednecktrucker1969 it's interesting...as I'm pretty sure RW could say exactly the same ting, as could Dawkins.

  • “Don’t take this the wrong way, but I find you very interesting and I would like to talk more. Would you like to come to my hotel room for coffee?”

Really? That's an unwanted "advance"? smh

Weak sauce. Grow some thicker skin. Seriously.

  • @JayJayAbels "Don't take this the wrong way" seems to be secret code for "Take this the worse possible way and alert the authorities" o.O and coffee seems to be slang for rape in whatever elevator this happened in...

  • well, I can definitely agree with this.

  • "Gategate" ~ The scandal of scandal.

I am sure there is an organisation of people that attempt to attach the suffix 'gate' to any personaised situation to demonise a person to whom they have been contracted to socially assasinate. The ultimate scandal indeed.

Shall hence forth be known as Gaters! xD

  • Seriously, I am taking the stairs from now on!

  • Rain. I like rain. Especially on the plain. Preferably in Spain. And if it's elevator rain; it makes me...poop. Ooops. She didn't get a free incontinental breakfast with that room, did she?

  • @RichardRoy2 I've had the continental breakfast on the continent it sure ain't what most hotels think

  • If you're a woman and you're terrified of ever being sexualized, wear a T-Shirt that says "Prude" on it and I guarantee you that pretty much no man will regard you as a sexual being.

  • @DonF72 yep thats the ticket deny all sexuality as apposed to saying sometimes it's inappropriate

  • Irrational fear is understandable. irrational fear can be acknowledged, but it shouldn't be given a false sense of acceptance. Being alone in an elevator isn't a high risk issue, whether he hits on you or not. That is the part that bugs me about this....she was fine being drunk at 4am in an elevator with a complete stranger...that was perfectly OK. It was only an issue when made the most mild proposition possible.

  • @unclexbob good thing you are not making assumptions about what she felt isn't it?

  • @nelliediddle I'm not commenting on what she thought of it, I'm commenting on the argument many have offered.

But then, you just assumed what I assumed she assumed....natch.

  • Sorry to hear you are not feeling well Nellie.

And thanks for the lesson in balance. I shall meditate upon it.

    Now lets all say "Ommmmmm...."

  • disagree she is peddling feminism I really don't buy the " i was just saying " .

way I see it white middle class privileged western women (who is so oppressed *rolls eyes * ) hijacks an Atheists convention , trying to conflate Atheism with feminism (amongst the great minds on that panel she was an embarrassment ! ) then she gets back home and cause controversy over nothing , a guy hits on her ,I mean for fuck sake .

  • @sausage4mash well glad to see you aren't personalizing anything or projecting your feelings about what happened onto what you think I'm saying.

  • @sausage4mash which explains a lot

  • She didn't say it make "some of us" feel uncomfortable. She said it "makes women feel uncomfortable". That's the issue yes. If as you rightly point out she had said it makes "me" feel uncomfortable, it would have been nothing. It was the attention given the issue by PZ Meyers. RW's bullying of Stef McGraw from her position of power as a key note speaker, and Dawkins comments that turned a mole hill into a mountain.

  • @TheNakedAtheist I said MY interpretation of what she said. t

this is a statement of what I PERSONALLY got out of it. I'm sorry if that was not clear to you

  • @nelliediddle

And I was pointing out that my interpretation is different. I'm sorry that wasn't clear to you.

  • @TheNakedAtheist RW should watch her comments against men. If she doesn't want to make a mountain out of a molehill.

  • It's ridiculous that you even have to make this video and explain this to people. It was a totally innocuous statement she made and really not that big of a deal. I still find it stunning that people are saying she doesn't have a right to feel the way she felt about it.

  • well I just think the secular community was offended by her intolerant misandric views when were fighting so hard to break defined gender roles by the theist out there and her brand of radical feminist ideology is really nothing but more of the same.

I'm glad people are starting to wake up to this fact...

  • @Curas1 well I prefer ( being part of the secular community ) that you let each of us speak for ourselves I was no more or less "offended" by her than by anyone else.

  • @nelliediddle

Maybe the truth is I am offended because I've always been offended and have never had a platform to speak about it before, because her reverse discrimination like sexism has given me a voice to finally relate some ideas about mens rights in terms of sexual liberation that haven't been able to be expressed before without the pejorative of 'sexist' or 'misogynist' put on them and I'm always happy to break those binds of group think.

I just empathize with that poor elevator guy

  • @Curas1 you are allowed as is everyone to fell however you feel.you ar even allowed to vice it, just voice it as YOU opinion not some kind of fact.

  • @nelliediddle

I think it is more than a opinion though, it's a shunned viewpoint discredited for political expediency without any consideration because it fits the 'victim' model of feminist advocacy and not the sexual liberation of free people, man and woman alike

As for opinions, I think it may be becoming clear that feminist and free thinkers do get off at different floors after all

    humm..

  • @nelliediddle Exactly

  • @Curas1 I'm starting a new thing watch all the videos curas1 clicks the like button on. my fav part of this video was when she said "can we stop putting gate.."

  • @skidwilldanceforyou

Yeah everything has a gate of the end of it huh ? lol! :)

  • This video pretty much sums up my experience as well, except I knew who she was before. Add to that my disappointment in certain people not for their views but their tactics. I'm also not happy about the comments on her channel page but I guess that shows there is a problem.

  • yup it was a storm in a teacup because everyone personalizes it instead of being objective. Good vid as usual nellie. Get better soon. :)

  • I'm glad we can still be friends you man-hating feminazi. :P

  • Meh to be fair I dont really see what Rebecca said as bad at all. What did piss me off about this whole incident was people going around calling rape inherinlty misoginitic (because we all know men cant be sexually assaulted nor raped) and doing things like pulling schrodingers rapist (really why cant we have schrodingers black criminal and schrodingers female abuser with that over generalism pie as well). But meh good video.

  • Whatgate dogate yougate meangate?gate.gate

  • @rockerwere popp from now on all shit storms must end with the suffix "poop"

  • @nelliediddle

That would make "Watergate" sound a lot like diarrhea... Lol. :P

  • @rockerwere

That made me think of Mush Mouth

  • We have to add on -gate otherwise we'd all be calling it "elevator".

  • @starfedrogue let call it elevator-poop! yes from now on all YT shit storms will be given the sufex "POOP" fr more appropriate!

  • @nelliediddle I second the motion.

  • Dawkins or Walkens?

    Or what it Watson?

Best advice I have heard all day, ... "Get away from your computer for a bit!" : )

  • @HandsInMyHead "I've got a fever and the only cue is ....MOAR COW BELL"

  • Reading the related post, I came across the quote of the guy. “Don’t take this the wrong way, but I find you very interesting and I would like to talk more. Would you like to come to my hotel room for coffee?”

"Don't take this the wrong way." Okay, yeah, she's overreacting. He's blatantly saying "No, I don't want to fuck you."

  • @tyrongkojy you mean like when people say "I don't mean to be offensive but_______"? you are now making an assertion that you cannot know is true which is what many many people are complaining was her crime

  • @nelliediddle Well generally, in my experience anyway, when people say the offensive one, they're more trying to be critical, and not insulting, unless their tone says otherwise. Now, I agree that 4 in the morning is not the fucking time to ask that, and I say that guy's a jackass for doing that, but he is literally saying there, to me, that he is making it clear he does NOT want to fuck her.

  • @tyrongkojy well you can think that all you want you cannot prove that was or was not what he was thinking just as no one else can prove it, unless your him, and then I sincerely doubt at this point it would ever be admitted to ROFLMAO..regardless you can make any assumption you want about his motives, but you have no way of KNOWING thats what he felt/meant at the time

  • @nelliediddle Agreed, but sadly neither can she, and that's more or less people's issue with what she did. The basic of it, at least, just as her "supporters", and I must put that in quotations because it's not a one side vs the toher, at least in the sae camps, their main issue is that it was 4 in the damn morning.

  • @tyrongkojy erm pretty sure that was my point in my initial response to you LOL and the majority of my video. A4 am is not a "witching hour" late at night secluded alone, those are things every girl/woman learns are not always safe form a very early age... shrug. I want to work for a world where it is, doesn't mean I live in fear or am deluded about what we need to do. I also don't think either "camp" needs to be nearly as screamy about any of what was said

  • @nelliediddle Quite. And I'm sorry about not grasping you initial post fully. Multitasking. besides, I prefer to get all my thoughts out as clearly as possible, and sometimes that requires more posts.

  • @tyrongkojy absolutely not an issue!!! civil conversation about things is the only way we ever get to know what the other person really means!! I appreciate your willingness to do that!

  • @nelliediddle I try. Until the insults start flying (usally the other guy). You'd be surprised by how many times I've eben called a pedophile. Aparently my hair and beard scream it.

  • @tyrongkojy LOL yes well I'm a "haggard old bitch" ;) one does get used to that kind o thing spending any time on YT. Glad to know you, and your hair is fine :)

  • @tyrongkojy This shows how differently people interpret things, because my perception of what he meant is totally different. I perceived it as him saying he didn't want to offend her by calling her interesting. Interesting can also be taken to mean weird, or different, etc.

  • I was thinking of making a video on how sceptic and atheist movements need to start "courting" other progressive movements (LGBT, feminist, minority rights activist) if they wish to see real change in the foreseeable future.

But, given the amount of hysteria currently attached to such issues it may be better to just wait a few weeks.

  • @notinmyname2050 heh aren't you catching enough heat for you blog at this point?

  • @nelliediddle Not really, why do you think I did it in blog form?

Sitting back and having a video tell you everything is one thing. Actually having to READ more than a couple of paragraphs of text is well beyond the staying power of the average internet drama-harpy.

The people who don't WANT to have their opinions challenged or become better informed just aren't going to make that kind of effort and so a long, detailed blog post acts as a very effective anti-shithead filter.

  • Likely just a poor choice of words... I completely understood her point and I also understand that people don't like being told what to do. Maybe the person asking for the "coffee chat" could have asked if she'd like to talk somewhere else other than his room? And maybe she could have said something other than "guys, don't do that",

Would she have been as uncomfortable had it been a woman asking for the coffee chat?

Any who... I agree... blown WAY out of proportion.

  • @thereprieve Some one put that to me (only another man) and I thought about it and the answer is yes. I wouldn't given the circumstances see it as anything else. I put it to you to try it and see what happens.

  • Oops...

Shows how much I paid to this...

I've been calling her Rebecca WESTON...

BUT I stand by my assertion that she has a perfect right to say the situation made her uncomfortable...IF it made her feel uncomfortable!

Also, I agree with you about Dawkins. I wish he'd not created such a dilemma around the idea that there is ANY NECESSARY relation between a woman feeling uncomfortable in an elevator in Nevada (or wherever it was) & horrible genital mutilations under Islam 1/2 way round the globe

  • "... get away from your computer for a bit."? - Now that is a radical agenda.

I never saw the story in any first account way. I've only ever come across it 3rd or fourth hand. (not bothered to investigate) People/the internet is/are funny. Some people on both sides yell about this issue constantly. But suddenly a (almost) random catalyst is introduced and soon enough everyone is talking and/or yell about it. Then it goes quiet until again, all the caplocks are EMPLOYED on another topic!!!

  • I'll only speak on Dawkins... I think people are completely misunderstanding what he was saying. I got "choose your battles a bit more wisely"... not at all that he was telling her to STFU or anything.

and I have been away from my computer a lot :) Feels odd that I haven't made, or even had the desire to make a video in over a month LOL.

  • @tattooskin72 I think it was poorly worded and not clear who he was speaking to, and really thats all..shrug.worlds full of things people say when they meant something else.

  • @tattooskin72

It's interesting to me that so many men are trying to tell a woman what she should have felt in this situation. She didn't say, "I was afraid I'd be raped." No, she said, "The situation made me feel uncomfortable."

Have you or Dawkins ever been women in an elevator with a man you don't know asking you at 4:00 a.m. if you'd like to go to his room for 'coffee'...If not, could it make sense to stop telling others what should and should not make them feel uncomfortable?

    Just curious

  • @2bsirius Don't try to presume to know anything about my life or the situations I have been in. I have been raped and was in an abusive relationship.

As far as situations similar to RW's... I've had a few and the worst ones, or most offensive, were actually perpetrated against me by women.

  • @2bsirius please don't this , it's this same jumping to conclusions about peoples thoughts feelings & motives that causes the problems I'm talking about.

  • @nelliediddle

I said nothing about motivation. I was making the observation this problems MIGHT come when people think others shouldn't feel a certain way in a given situation. The same situation might make one person feel discomfort, but may not make another person experience the same emotion at all. TELLING someone else what he/she SHOULD have felt doesn't seem controlling?

It is not 'wrong' to feel discomfort in certain situations, nor SHOULD anyone be made to feel it is wrong imho.

  • The blog is completely full of hyperbolas, things that the blogger could NOT possibly know. Also, the the time is irreverent, if you can stay out all night 'till for in the morning drinking is a bar full of guys, why suddenly is 4am the witching hour? People need to grow up

  • @Elenkhos you mad bro?

  • @nelliediddle Yea a little, a person with extremely thin skin, and no common sense made a very reputable person look like an ass, when in reality it's just life ...

  • @Elenkhos and THAT my darling is "just the world too"

  • @nelliediddle What it is,is a woman that several years ago,put nude pics in a calender of herself and sold them, for thousands of guys to ogle at, and suddenly, she's scured of a very well known person who asks her up for coffee? No, its' called over dramtizing the situation so she can increase her reputation. If the man had not been who he was,and I know who he is, she probably would not have even mentioned it, but he being who he is, she was assured ALLOT of attention, She is an attention whore.

  • @Elenkhos I see you took the whining part of my comment section seriously... really I've said all I have to say on the topic, and while you seem to think this is going to change hearts and minds to your specific point of view... it's not. But pelase feel free to continue

  • @nelliediddle I did not read any of the other comments... however their is not one to win over. Either you are a person with common sense or you are not,

  • @Elenkhos yes no statement of fact that you cannot actually prove in that sentence.

  • @nelliediddle common sense: is defined as beliefs or propositions that most people consider prudent and of sound judgment, without reliance on esoteric knowledge or study or research, but based upon what they see as knowledge held by people "in common" Girl enters elevator after partying all night with a dude she knows,he asks her up for coffee, she says no, end of story=common sense. Same scenario but girl blows it out of proportion and vlogs about it throwing the guy under the bus=Gimbot

  • @Elenkhos I think you are suggesting it as Dawkins who was Elevator Guy. She had never spoken to Elevator Guy before being in the elevator, so it wasn't Dawkins.

  • Yup pretty much how I feel about this whole thing.
