I for one do not approve of his handling of that owl. Why make the animal do something like that and stress it out to the point of screaming. I am getting my falconers License and they have NEVER treated them like THAT during my time training!!! Come on just to make a point?? That's just someone trying to make it out like he is boss of the animal an do what he wants. Show the Owl some respect and maybe he will be willing enough to cooperate with you. Just WRONG!!
@futurerockstar1992 seriously and you see barn owls? I'm jealous! I live in Ohio and they are endangered here! They are my favorite owl.. so if you want you can send some over this way! lol.I asked if you was from England because they are very populous there! They always see barn owls..lol

the owl if fIne everybody shut the fuck up, honestly people dont know what there talking about, i have to feed owls 2-3 times a week at a bird of prey rehabilitation center, and this is nothing, to feed a baby barred owl you have to manually open its beak and shove the food down or he will not eat, and you have to to keep him alive and his tummy full :3
Believe me...they DO sound like this...and they screech every 5-10 seconds....ALL NIGHT LONG!!!! I am in Southern Maine....At first I thought it was cats outside...but the screeching was too much of a regular pattern and continued for hours...my dobermans woke me up...after hearing this....I hope this owl finds a new roost tonight!!!!
WTF. Not a happy owl. Stop doing that, its clealy that owl dosent like it. I have seen owl happy tigether whit humans, but this owl insent at all. Wunder why asshole?
@lmbarak oh he is do not happy and that is a fact .the poor thing. i was so mad when i saw what he was doing, how would he like it if someone came a long and did that to him, I have 3 owls and when they are screech like that it telling us that they are up set OMG how could he.
@quasimojo8 It's a wild animal. Paranoia instincts and the fact that animals can't accurately interpret human intent dictate that when something is holding on to your legs or grasping at your body, it wants to eat you. Struggle does not indicate pain, it indicates stress, which is complete unavoidable when you bring a non-domesticated animal into a human setting.
Also, most animals do not cry in pain, they cry for help or to intimidate. Animal cries are less expressive and more communicative.
@Lankist Also, on an evolutionary level, to verbally cry in pain is extremely detrimental. It says "hey predators, I am incredibly vulnerable right now, come and eat me." Most creatures experience pain silently so as to avoid notice. Even humans do this. The reason that we sob is so that we can garner empathy from other humans without advertising our vulnerability to other species, like sort of a secret mayday code. If a wild animal feels pain, the last thing it will do is tell you about it.
@faloc I find it hilarious that the fact that he's American has to do with how he treats animals. I know a couple Americans who are actually very gentle and very knowledgeable with animals.
You should stop being such a foreign asshole. : )

I don't care what anyone says, have someone twist your neck to its maximum abilities while being scared shitless and see if you pull a muscle. Just let the bird show us by himself. What a jerkoff.
PredatorHuntress'666', You were impressed with the handling of this animal? Okay, yes the animal is in 'close' quarters. Fine. If the handler is any good, they understand the wild animal, and can handle it properly. There is absolutely no reason to grab a bird's head and start twisting. No reason. I volunteer at a Birds of Prey rehab facility.ALL birds are handled with care, and no one, including the birds are ever hurt. It is a very peaceful place. You would notice the difference immediately.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Are you serious? You call yourself an expert? You make me sick. If you had respect for this owl, you would realize that you do not hold it like a prisoner by grabbing it by the legs. You have taken all dignity away from this owl. You are manipulating it, scaring it and showing no respect. You have a lot to learn when it comes to handling a raptor properly.
@jennothelfer There's a difference between handling and showing.
If you had any respect for the handler, you would not be bad mouthing him like this. Is it not better to keep the animal from hurting others around him, or HIMSELF, than letting him be magnificent? The fact that he does handle the animal in close quarters, with such confidence, is impressive.
Any time you handle a wild animal, you are scaring it and holding it prisoner (what about zoos?) Really. It's called common sense.
people need to chill the owl is fine. yes it's stressed out and was made to do things against their will but that happens to humans too. so don't say 'i don't get us humans sometimes.' because lots of people do things againsts their will. and he's just making sure the newbies know what they're doing instead of harming the animal.
Holy hell you guys are idiots. He's turning the head like that so the trainees can see how far is normal and don't break the neck of the first owl they lay hands on. Diagrams aren't good enough, especially when all owls are different and if it comes to a situation like the owl needing immediate medical attention.
Why don't he show you a replica of the anatomy of this bird, INSTEAD of using this stressed animal that clearly does not like what is happening. Ok, you say he will be fine, but why do this when this animal is highly stressed? I don't understand us humans sometimes, because you would not want anything done physically against your will. How often does he do this just to "show" what this species can do?? All I'm saying is there's gotta be a better way.
@TheChej I will admit, when i first saw the video, my jaw dropped open at the blaise fashion the guy just grabbed the owl by the head and twisted it all around like a slinky with feathers. A few viewings later, it basically sunk in that, while indeed rough, they guy wasn't unnecessarily rough. A diagram might work, but, it doesn't exhibit the fact that bird WILL struggle, it WILL fight, and if nothing else, was a show of how to properly handle a owl to keep unnecessary injuries to both parties.
That owl i being Ill-treated. He is handling the bird with care. He looks like he knows what he is doing. Any raptors are able to do since they have such a flexible neck. that seems like a very angry owl and therefor should be let go in the wild... unless it has some kind of disability that prevents it from functioning correctly
@pricture He know's which way they turn. It's just like somebody coming up to you and asking you to shake your head. our heads can turn, and so can owls. It causes them no harm.
That's a barn owl right? If I'm right, I was always told that barn owls are super vocal, but don't hoot. They screech. So really, the little guy's just doin what he does. Doesn't necessarily mean that he's hurt or pissed. If you want to hear hoots, try a different species.
I hate all the negative comments. How do you all think we know so much about animals, huh? He wasn't hurting the owl, just trying to educate people about them. Do you really think you would try an operation on a person before you go to medical school?
WTF are you doing!? D:< I don't care if you're an expert or not, you shouldn't torment the poor thing just to see how his head turns! Jerk. Leave him alone. I'm sure you wouldn't like someone twisting your neck around.
Owl thoughts: Jesus Christ! You know, this is why I hate trainees. Always disturbing my beauty rest. NOW PUT ME DOWN! I am tired and I have, like, three parties to go to tonight and you are RUFFLING my feathers.
Other than that little hissy fit I'm sure the thing is fine, if not a bit peeved for having it's head twisted when it didn't wanna twist...It's like someone putting you in an arm lock for a karate demo class. You might not like it, but it doesn't hurt that much if they do it properly.
@mamayollama, agreed. I'm a Falconer who owns Birds of Prey and touching a Owl on it's neck is it's weak spot. When you get attack by a Bird of Prey such as a Owl if you grab their neck (not choking them) they will go away or let go of you. Grabbing it's neck like he's doing is hurting it which is why it's pissed off. Just because he works at a rehab center doesn't mean he knows what he is doing. Half the rehabbers barely know how to take care of a bird of prey.

Wow. I didn't know there were so many ornithology professors with years of both classroom study and actual field study with raptors and a good biology degree to back themselves up on youtube!
Thanks guys. Without you jackoffs' self-taught knowledge from great sources like Wikipedia, we'd be fooled into thinking this raptor expert actually knew what he was doing! Oh, silly us!

Idiots. You're the type of ignorant tards that think carnivorous animals shouldn't eat their fellow animals because it's "wrong". Horrigan: "Get a life you PETA dogs."
Personally LOLing at all the people in the comments who think they know more about owls than a professional rehabber, while showing ignorance that even a layman can recognize.
The video's interesting, if a little short. Thanks for uploading.
I always wanted to see the ears of an owl! And I was also curious about the screech of a barn owl since most of the videos of them are them silent. Now I know!! :D Thank you <3
I like reading the comments of people who complain and flag this video. The owl's reactions would be no different if it was a vet would handle the bird the same way. They just think that anything other than the way Jack Hannah or Jeff Corwin do things by keeping the animal 100% comfortable should be deemed a horrific sight.
@crystalwing16 That's how barn owls always sound. I took care of one that was injured and it always screamed at me. Im gonna guess that none of you haters ever tried to handle a wild bird of prey..... They arent exactly...nice and sometimes you have to move them when they don't want to moved.
All the negative comments, jeez, this guy knows what he's doing, and if you think he's some kind of asshole, check out his other videos, not many of you would probably keep a pitbull that's missing a leg. So I say my hat's off to you Mr. CN, for giving animals a chance and teaching others how to help them as well!
Thank you for your comment. This man is a leading expert of predatory birds. I was the trainee taking pictures, not the one laughing.
I get a plethora of negative comments for this video, but few on my fractious dog I rescued when I volunteered in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, of the response, or of my 3-legged Pit Bull. This video caused an emotional response, but I wish more knew that this was not inhumane and that like pigs, owls are quite vocal, even with little handling.
I was almost crying when it looked at the camera and was screeching...poor owl!!! It looked like the guy was trying to break its neck!!! Don't do that to owls!!
The man in this video is a loser! Why is he treating the owl like that? And to the individuals who are listening to him explain about the owl in this video, next time say something like "why are you making the owl screech in fear obviously it is scared". I have given this video a one star rating; I would have given a zero star rating but there is not one.
Lets call peta on him, maybe they terrorize him like all the other animal activists. If you think this is bad, you should see how animals are treated by animal sanctuarys and vets.
yes that is how the neck is but it should never be twisted forcefully like that. that could have broken any important bones in the owls neck as the owl has it stiffened in each position its in!!!
WTF DUDE that poor Owl is scared, that man is like harrassing the poor thing, Barn Owls makes that sound when they feel fear, or scared, if you were that owl how would you feel if a human was trying to twist your head all the way around.
It is a barn owl. That is what they sound like-- not all owls hoot.
But still! Dude, I hope he bites your finger off one day and claws your eyes out. Whether he is in pain or not there is absolutely no reason to handle ANY animal like that.
The owl isn't hurt, that's for sure...its neck is made like that, as most already said. I just think it was not necessary to turn it on purpose, the owl always does that to see around. The people around could have seen it turning its head naturally :/
Yeah, the bird's fine, moving his head like that won't hurt him a bit. He probably doesn't want to be handled at the moment, but he's not actually in pain or anything. That screech is actually what they sound like.
hey what are you doing to that poor owl

He may know what hes doing, but you just DONT do that. How would you like it if a giant came up to you and tested which way your head turned.
pricture 1 year ago
@pricture He know's which way they turn. It's just like somebody coming up to you and asking you to shake your head. our heads can turn, and so can owls. It causes them no harm.

@xXCrimsonVirtueXx Yeah but if someone just went up to you and physically turned your head, then you wouldnt like that lol.

That's a barn owl right? If I'm right, I was always told that barn owls are super vocal, but don't hoot. They screech. So really, the little guy's just doin what he does. Doesn't necessarily mean that he's hurt or pissed. If you want to hear hoots, try a different species.
Loveydvy99 1 year ago
@Loveydvy99 Yes that is a barn owl. That my friend is that species's distress call. The barn owl's screeches are actually a lot more shorter.

I hate all the negative comments. How do you all think we know so much about animals, huh? He wasn't hurting the owl, just trying to educate people about them. Do you really think you would try an operation on a person before you go to medical school?

Other than that little hissy fit I'm sure the thing is fine, if not a bit peeved for having it's head twisted when it didn't wanna twist...It's like someone putting you in an arm lock for a karate demo class. You might not like it, but it doesn't hurt that much if they do it properly.

mamayollama 1 year ago

The people leaving hateful comments know nothing about owls.
LaunchOctopus 1 year ago
I like reading the comments of people who complain and flag this video. The owl's reactions would be no different if it was a vet would handle the bird the same way. They just think that anything other than the way Jack Hannah or Jeff Corwin do things by keeping the animal 100% comfortable should be deemed a horrific sight.

crystalwing16 1 year ago
@crystalwing16 That's how barn owls always sound. I took care of one that was injured and it always screamed at me. Im gonna guess that none of you haters ever tried to handle a wild bird of prey..... They arent exactly...nice and sometimes you have to move them when they don't want to moved.

All the negative comments, jeez, this guy knows what he's doing, and if you think he's some kind of asshole, check out his other videos, not many of you would probably keep a pitbull that's missing a leg. So I say my hat's off to you Mr. CN, for giving animals a chance and teaching others how to help them as well!
darktalon2gnt 1 year ago 20
Thank you for your comment. This man is a leading expert of predatory birds. I was the trainee taking pictures, not the one laughing.
I get a plethora of negative comments for this video, but few on my fractious dog I rescued when I volunteered in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, of the response, or of my 3-legged Pit Bull. This video caused an emotional response, but I wish more knew that this was not inhumane and that like pigs, owls are quite vocal, even with little handling.

The man in this video is a loser! Why is he treating the owl like that? And to the individuals who are listening to him explain about the owl in this video, next time say something like "why are you making the owl screech in fear obviously it is scared". I have given this video a one star rating; I would have given a zero star rating but there is not one.

that guy is a bad man becuz he holds the owl like that and twists its neck and head like crazy
11marioboots 2 years ago
Lets call peta on him, maybe they terrorize him like all the other animal activists. If you think this is bad, you should see how animals are treated by animal sanctuarys and vets.
TheIbanezGuy 2 years ago
Yes, I agree. That's not how you treat an owl. You tell people what they can do. Not show them!
IloveSPIDERZ 2 years ago 4
yes that is how the neck is but it should never be twisted forcefully like that. that could have broken any important bones in the owls neck as the owl has it stiffened in each position its in!!!

The owl's pissed. Most animals (people as well) don't appreciate being handled.
But! This guy is educating people about owls, which is very benificial for all owls.
Now all of you keep your unkind words to yourself. Nobody needs to hear them.
I, myself, admire that owls spunk. X3
