  • This Hagler would of destroyed Lenard the dancing prince.

  • You couldn't stop Hagler with a sledge hammer.

  • The way Hagler absorbed that uppercut showed ,beyond doubt he took a shot better than anyone. There will never again be a blue collar champ like Marvelous who ducked no one and showed up to fight every minute of every round and had old school class.

  • @kevindlinc

Yes. When Mugabi hit Hagler with that uppercut in round two and Hagler gave him a nod as in "good shot" Mugabi knew he could very well be in trouble bc that punch would of knocked out many others and Hagler's legs didn't even flinch. He knew he was in for a long evening at that moment and even tried to shake Hagler's hand after the round. Hagler had ALL the tools: box, slug, combinations, all angles, long arms, foot movement...everything. He knew the ring and boxing inside out.

  • @ianbillen Something that you don't hear much about is that Hagler was a 'converted'' southpaw thus his jab was exceptionally hard.Oscar Delehoya was a converted orthodox fighter Bruce Lee like Hagler was also a converted southpaw.

  • @kevindlinc

Hmmm but I thought Hagler was basically ambidextrous from early on? Thought it was mostly natural to him (thought that is what made him much more "gifted" than most fighters). didn't know he worked on converting his skills to Southpaw? Just curious...

  • @ianbillen You are correct in that Hagler switched stances quite comfortably but he generally fought as a southpaw. Hagler is right handed though and the natural stance for a right hander is orthodox. Being a ''converted'' fighter means that your leading with your ''strength'' hand. This is the reason for Haglers battering ram of a jab. I' ll have to look into who early in his boxing career was influential regaurding this.

  • @kevindlinc I heard he was ambidextrous?

  • @ianbillen

Agree with you but........Hagler DEFINITELY loses points for being a middle only fighter. ALL the other 3 moved up MANY divisions, Hagler did not so he is an all time great middleweight, but I'm not sure he's greater than Hearns,Leonard or Duran overall.

  • hagler is a fighting machine

  • Winky Wriight!!?? Hagler would have slaughtered winky wright that was an insult winky is a good fighter but not on the level of a hagler no way.

  • Hagler would have killed roy jones he was just a great all around fighter and could do it all a complete boxer puncher, roy looked superb against c and b level fighters when he fought fighters with chins, skills, and who were not intimidated by him he usually went to sleep.

  • The middleweights of today couldn't TOUCH either of these guys.

  • I from panama my two favoriter warrior Duran and hagler both legend , this is boxer I don't like when fight run a lot it .

  • Hagler would killed Monzon. Monzon stood to straight up.

  • Hagler was an iron-jawed punching machine, in other words: a Beast!

  • Marvelous Marvin Hagler was a real champion and now a legend that knew the art of The Sweet Science.

  • Mugabi was an excellent fighter, a fact that is sadly overlooked today. If he was around now he'd be the dominant middleweight. As for Hagler, a true legend.

  • @glasshousetiger Mugabi never recovered from the prolonged beating he took in this fight,he showed he had a great chin taking Hagler's shots at 160,after this fight he moved back down to 154 & was knocked out by Duane Thomas & Terry Norris,Hagler lost a step or two after this fight as well,& Ray Leonard exploited that,a brutal war like this will do that, check out the first "Castillo vs Corrales" fight from 'I believe may '05.

  • @glasshousetiger yeah if he was around today mugabi would be the clear no 1 MW. But you could say the same of Barkley, Roldan, Kalambay,Mccallum,Obelmejias,Sibson,Minter, Olajide, Tate,Graham, Benn,Nunn,Hamsho,Hilton and so many other 1980's middleweights.

  • Hagler was one hell of a fighter, never surrender an just wore is opponents down by keep coming forward all the time... the guy is a legend

  • hell yeah

  • wish we had boxers like this these days.

  • what do you mean by that?

    Just wondering

  • haglers determination to overcome every obstacle put in his way, to acheive his dream, alot of the top fighters where that closley matched skillwise etc, it brought out the very best in them, forcing them to become legends of the ring. boxing was a major sport back then it attracted everyone attention, these days u get the 1 or 2 super fights per year and they duck each other and skip up and down weights willy nilly., also back then it was 15 rounds that alone separated the good from the elite.

  • I see, thanks for replying. You see I'm a boxer (in training). Although i'm only 15 i have a dream, to be the best, and not only to be the world champion, I want to bring boxing back to days when warriors stepped into the ring. The days like Ray Robinsons days and all the way up to Muhammad Ali's day and Joe Frazier's day and perhaps beyond. I wan't to bring boxing back to the day when boxers were looked at as public figures and icons not only in the boxing world.

  • you know, some people say that boxing is dying, but back in the day it wasn't the sport that was dying but the sport's athletes that risked there lives everytime they stepped into the ring. (over 1,000 known deaths due to boxing injures not to mention all the other tragedies in boxing).

Boxing is a beautiful sport but over the years the meaning of boxing has changed or should i say the meaning of being a boxer has changed.

  • There's alot more that i could say but they say that actions speak better than word's so i'll leave it at this, The day i make my pro boxing debut, i promise you, boxing is gonna make a comeback

  • good luck with your, dream im sure with hard work and determination, u can reach ur goal.

  • hagler was amazing the best middleweight of all time ray robinson was great but rays prime was as a welterweight

  • Marvin- BEST MIDDLEWEIGHT EVER!!!!

  • No #2 of all time, Sugar Ray Robinson was the greatest!

  • right.... he was the greatest ever

  • Wow! Simply Marvelous!

  • Its Simple..Marvin Fuckin' Rules.

  • The beast, I was doing security with this man back in 1999 in Goldcoast Australia. You know hes homeless know.

  • Both of these fighters put up a great fight, the difference being Hagler was a 15 rd fighter and an all-time great. it is argued that both were not the same after, Mugabi went on to get knocked silly by Terry Norris(as did Ray Leonard).

Hagler fought Leonard gallantly in his final fight(I scored it a draw)...Hagler might of let the first rds slip by b/c he chose to fight orthodox...Lets not forget the "Marvelous One" had 67 fights when he retired, only 3 losses, 2 of them avenged.

  • I'm really glad most these fights are available on youtube, thank-you to everyone and anyone who makes it work. I hate it when the line says "I'm sorry this video is no longer available" I'll have to work on fixing that if it can be fixed.

  • two very,very hard bastards.....

  • monzon vs hagler ?? who is the winner??

  • Hagler.

  • hagler, better skills and chin, even if hagler did not beat monzon record. as one youtuber said it best hagler was the#1 contender 4 years until getting shot for title & would have been the champion a lot longer beat monzon's record.

  • WOW!!

  • this whole fight used to be posted. what happened? I love this fight and we love to see it in its entirity. if you could help I would love it.

  • Marvin Hagler was in my opinion "THE" greatest

Middleweight of all time.I do not say this lightly,I know al about Sugar Ray Robinson,Carlos Monzon,Rocky Graziano,Tony Zale,

and Sugar Ray Leonard,(who robbed Marvin in 1987).Also Mugabe was a very fearsome fighter and after this fight he was a spent force,Great Days.Tommy Hearns was also a Demon.

  • Mugabi was a double hard bastard.

  • This was WAR!!!!!!!!!!

  • incredible, mugabi was one hard bastard, and marvin was truly marvelous, he was right to retire when he did big respect goes out to mugabi/hagler

  • Marvin would KTFO of Roy Jones.

Wow Mugabis chin sure ain't made of glass but Hagler is pure granite.

  • Roy jones would have tried to shoe shine punch hime but marvin was a great fighter and can fight southoaw or righty and when roy get hit we all know what that means, lights out for real Marvin Hwearn Leonard Duran would have killed today's fighters

  • hagler was a great fighter, but i think a guy like jones would own him. too fast for him.

  • Marvelous Marv! My Favorite fighter of all time! Good coverage! This was a great fight!

Although I luve Marvin, I don't know how he would have fared against today's best middleweights. Only because Marvin never had to deal with a crafty speedy middleweight a-la Roy Jones and Winky Wright.

I would have rooted for Marvin all the way though. He was always in shape to fight and always gave his best.

  • Ummm Sugar Ray?

  • Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, Marvin wasn't at the peak of his skills when he faced Sugar Ray. He was at the tale end of his skills which Sugar Ray knew. Also, Sugar Ray bargained for a 12 round fight, and succeeded in getting it because Marvin was over-confident. And, most importantly, Sugar-Ray was not a true middleweight.

  • Your right about Sugar Ray not being a true middleweight but dead wrong about Hagler's skills in their fight. Hagler wasn't "fading" or anything like that. Sugar Ray is a prime example of what De La Hoya does in alot of the rounds of alot of his fights, throws a flurry in the last 10 seconds to win a round. Hagler retired cause he thought he got screwed once again, which alot of people agreed with and was done with boxing. It was close, lets not forget it was a Split Decision.

  • Christ!how fit was Hagler, and wot a chin..this video shows why he was the best middleweight of all time.

  • Hagler was the best middle weight I ever saw. What a bull!! He had one hell of a chin to take this guy and Hearns best stuff. He would blow through the middleweights today. Great video!

  • The Marvelous one !!!Hardest chin ever !!!!

  • That was a GREAT fight! I wouldnt mind seeing the whole fight again. I watched it live and forgot just how good it was.

  • WOW! Great Fight! I used to love watching Hagler's fights!

  • Hi doomicon, I'm glad you loved this fight. It was one of Marvin's most exciting fights
