  • Thanks for the heads up, that's crazy

  • buy a samsung had it for a long time and nothing wrong

  • Thanks for the warning. I hate businesses that don't stand behind their product. I too have advice. Do not by Honda Motor scooters...as they would not cover the warranty on my 7 week old scooter after it failed to restart (see my vid)

  • Oh my God... really? I am planning to open up a Laundry business and I am considering this brand... now I am confused if I will be buying it or not!

  • My family was in the appliance/auto parts business for over 50 years in a mom/pop type of store. We saw the quality of appliances go downhill in the past 10 years and the service/warrenty turning to crap. We got out of it before our reputation was shot. We are still in business selling auto parts and I see the same thing happening with cars..what used to be individual replaceable components are now intergretated into a giant expensive mass. My advice, pick up the old machines and fix them.

  • having issues with my whirlpool too... F DL manual says: function door lock. replaced it, $50 us. worked great for about a week, same error code.... do you think the CCU replacement will fix my door lock issues? send me a personal message please. thanks

  • Looking to see if it was the same error. We had bleach dumping in & wrecking clothes on the similar (if not the same model) about 3 years ago at almost 5 years old (covered by extended Best Buy warranty). Now the control locked light is stuck on & I can't seem to find anyone who's got that issue & the machine will not run since the light is on. :P other than those errors it's been ok so far at 7 years old.

  • I have the same problem with their junk water heaters. One name they use is AO Smith and Powerflex. Both started leaking between 3 and 6 months after the warranty. I think they yesy them so they will fail right after the warranty so you have to go buy another one.

  • wait till the spider arms and bearings break.....that's another $500....I read through hunfreds of reviews for all brands of front loaders.....They are ALL crap!. 4 years later and $700 less I have to buy a new machine. Mine was Electrolux...

  • The Duet is one of their "cheaper" models......that's why it doesn't work well.

  • that machine is crabbbb and is worst if you call a sears tech they don't know shit about this machine they will charge you and run like rats

  • do you want your washer

  • The best front loaders are built by Miele. They cost a bit more, but they don't have these stupid problems!

  • I was honestly researching new machines just to update the units I have. Mama always said, new is not always better. I live in a craftman house with a 1960"s washer and dryer. Old but works perfect. I'll pass. Thanks ma!

  • It doesn't matter what you get these days, everything has its share of problems. That washer is not all that bad but it does have a few issues as with everything else new. One common problem with the Duet, and what I think your problem was, is the plugs on the controler. They don't make a very good connection and will cause exactally what you experienced. Sometimes just unplugging them and plugging them back in will fix it. Other times you have to go in and gently bend the prongs in on the plug

  • @mikeamato100

    Fantastic solution.

Just like my neighbour a couple of years ago: Buy this car, its cheap and you can repair everything in a hurry.

I bought another car, I drove my car and still saw him repairing.

  • But my message is F 2, do you know what is that mean?

  • My washer just died yesterday, exactly same model.

  • By Samsung instead, good mashines without problem !

  • I have the same issue with my Samsung Dryer except it is the power relay that fried the board. Only 2 years old - and Samsung's service is horrendous!!!

  • I got the same circuit board, in the Kenmore Elite HeT. The thing has super cheap connectors. My dad is an electrical engineer and he said 80% of problems are from the connections. Just clean up the contacts with alcohol and refit some of the connections if necessary, In the process of doing that with my circuit board right now.

  • @murrgatrroid I agree with you, but the CEO doesn't give a rats ass, sounds like GM in my book!

  • Thanks for sharing. I have the same problem except its a f06 error which may require replacement of ccu or mcu. whirlpool support is terrible. the reps are very apathetic and misinform me about the cost of repair.

  • im having the same problem

  • i remember my parent's since i was like 2 or something! they work awesome!

  • My duet is on its 11th year, though we have certainly had a few issues. The dryer had a door interlock switch fail. Sears repairman insisted it was the computer board, so he ordered one despite me telling him it was the switch. Glad he did, because he left the old one and installed the new one. When that didn't fix the problem, I told him nevermind. I replaced the switch; and voila; working dryer. Had to replace the drain pump on the washer once after 9 years. Also self-repaired.

  • hmm... looks like the red ring of death for whirlpool washers

  • i had a whirlpool ounce worst peice of shit i had ever

  • get an old fashioned top loader man ....... will last 25yrs plus !! These new front loaders have WAY too many circuit boards etc !! Washing clothes is not rocket science - the less complicated the better !!!

  • YES DO NEVER BUY WHIRLPOOL.I have the same machine that bounces, i have TO continue to stop it and balance the load by hand 2 or 3 times to finally get it to stop bouncing and shaking. I sSamsung any good? I really think I will go back to the old top loader . Also " BEWARE OF KITCHENAID STOVEs". The consumer should stop buying new, buy second hand with no FALSE promises.

  • We can Help!

    We are solocenter

We have whirlpool parts for 1/2 off!!!

For starters always use a surge protecter.

  • whirlpool front loaders are shit boxes!

  • I had a whirlpool bought in 2000 it worked for 7 years...

now i have a samsung..it's been less then a year and it got sent to service :|

    it's not just Whirlpool it's everything..stupid consumerism.

  • @kamikazeOS i have a samsung that is crap too. brutal

  • When you invest this kind of money in a machine, it should be top notch. This gentleman should not have to pay that kind of money to replace the unit. It is not his fault, not like he did something to it. I have learned these fancy machines are nice but not worth the headace in repairs and a basic machine even though that sucks is better and not so many repairs in those computer boards.

  • thanks to this video never buying this piece of shit!

  • nope they came to my hose and my drain hose was too far in. 2 years ago and so far so good

  • This guy sounds like one of those losers who ends up quitting his job, losing his house, and then protesting on the front lawn of Whirlpool's corporate head office.

Settle down. It's just a washing machine.

  • LG and Samsung are the worst 2 options out there, I fix them. The board mentioned in this video should have a 5 year warranty.

  • That's american products for you they alllllllllllll freaking suck including the car...stick w/ LG, samsung...and as for cars go for Japaness or korean

Stay away from all product and cars that are built in america or canada...they allllllllll suck big time...Japanesssssss or Koreannnnnnnnnnnn is the way to gooooo.

  • I HAVE HAD THE SAME TYPE PROBLEM on my identical Whirlpool Duet - but mine says F H on error code! Had 2 certified repair ppl come out. They replaced the master control, the hoses/switches everything that it could be. The 'help' service number @ Whirlpool has been contacted numerous times, but no solution found. So, here I sit with a beautiful (looking) washer that will not wash. Whirlpool said they would replace for $360, but they don't make the color anymore (almond)...I just bought LG.

  • Yeah, gotta go with the top-loader with the mechanical controls, that's how our Whirlpool top-loader is, and it is now 20 (soon to be 21) years old and still running flawlessly.

  • I had the same problem with mine. the he4t. i had to take that box apart and resoilder all the conections. i guess over time the vibration lossens the conections.I almost paid the 400$ or so to fix it . But after a little reserch on the net . i herd of a guy doing this type of repair himself. After 2 years the machine has not given me that error. But i strongly agree .this machine sucks.for what i paid for it.Luckily i was able to fix the problem with just some soilder.but i should of never had

  • any washer that is DIGITAL SUCKS, even the whirlpool toploader my dad used to have, it was all fancy smanchy digital and even if the washer was a hair off balance it would stop the cycle and flash OL for overload when it never was OL, so the only thing i like is the cycle knob that has a timer switch and does it all mechanically, also todays computers suck because they don't last long at all. also have a old top loader that still works with hard wired safety switch because it broke

  • Save yourself a whole lotta headaches. Put that thing in the dump where it belongs and buy yourself a top loader.

  • reminds me of windows vista!!!

  • one word-TOPLOADER!

  • I have the same washer and the same problem. Also get the DL code (door Lock fail) this thing has been nothing but a problem since we got it! Don't buy one!

  • Very sorry for your experience with your washer, and thanks so very much for the advice. I take these kind of stories to heart. I'll be praying for God to bless you, Take Care.

  • is there anyone who fixes whirlpool. That knows about the f 1 message

  • We bought whirlpool and it's fantastic but we took a 5 year protection.

We are happy but the one you got we would never get. So your advice is actually good because i heard alot of shit about the one you have.

  • I do service work for Whirlpool and I can tell you they have the best front load washer out on the market. The F11 code is unfortunate but is not all that common. Buying Frigidaire or GE instead of Whirlpool would be a big mistake.

  • @druners ur joking right? or u just forgot to wright that thay have the best shit on market, i was seling washers and mos of customers did have whirlpool and they won't buy any one mor, why? u can gues

  • @druners , You're an ass. These new front loaders have been plagued with maintenance nightmares. The only one who doesn't believe that is you. Why should someone have to pay $200 after spending $1400 on a laundry machine that lasts only 3 years.

  • Same thing at our house with the Duet. $268.00 for new motor and $140.00 for the labor. Steve in Florida

  • does any know how to get the CONTROL LOCKED on the whirlpool deut to unlock

  • @rastaviongod Hold down the control lock button for 10 seconds, if doesnt work you have another problem. you can open the door manually by taking off the front bottom panel and pulling down on the little lever on the bottom of the door lock mechanism.

  • I bought one used.Paid $400. Lasted a few months before problems. Similar error codes as you. Maytag sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have a Kenmore HE4t, which is the Sears Duet HT and I've had only 1 problem. It was, and is, a beautiful washer that shows, when taken care of, how a badly designed washer can stand the test of time. 6 years.

  • PLEASE listen to this man !

I have the Duet as well....nothing but hassle.

Some of the problems were. Timer. Pump and now the reason I'm browsing youtube is because the front seal has broken up and I'm looking for tips to replace it.

DONT buy whirlpool products or their sister companies products.

Also a freind bough Bosch. Again nothing but hassle

My Mrs was never happy with the wash either.

Thanks for making the effort to show this vid Buddy !

  • I have the HE3, Sears brand of the Duet. My machine threw its main bearing after a couple of years of light use. My advice is to avoid these front loaders and buy a simple top loader, which is what I plan to do if Sears does not fix my machine under their elusive/evasive "exceptional parts" extended warranty. My first & last Sears product, and be extension Whirlpool/Maytag.

  • So 1 machine breaks and the whole whirlpool company is bad? Thats funny. I have had our duet pair for going on 7 years and never had 1 single problem. Every company in the world have made something that has broken in an unreasonable amont of time so I geuss you don't buy anything from anywhere. huh? You amuse me

  • Brand new Whirlpool ac lasted 1 year . Brand new Whirlpool washer did last 4 years , broke spin cycle $ 200.00 repair. Beware that ( Whirlpool owns MAYTAG) . Brand new Maytag Washer broke after 4 months , in warranty and they will come back with parts next week . Buy Maytag and Whirlpool and you may end up in the laundrymat like me . I dont know if Kenmore and GE are as good as they used to be but they used to last for 10 to 15 years .

  • Sometimes all you have to do is unplug the unit for 10 minits . Let the unit reset.

I Have sean it work in some cases. scott

  • I hate electronic controls; too much to go wrong. I'll bet there aren't any after market replacements for the control modules either. I'll keep my 25 year old top loader as long as I can.

  • I have the same one. I HATE IT! Gonna buy a top loader, cheaper washer.

  • Thank you for letting us know. They have a lot of rebates and I was wondering why! I planned to buy the 975 series but ill pass. Sorry about your trouble.

  • I have problems with my duet. Now the duet dryer doesn't want to keep the heat on. Im buying a new pair, this time LG.

  • FRONTLOADERS SUCK!!

  • LG has a 10 warranty!

  • also u should at the store got a warr coverge at store where got they would had said Lemon n gave u a new one for free

  • that the motorboard failed on it

  • all washing machines/dryers are made to fail. they are designed to last about 2-4 yrs (depending on usage).. and then to rapidly start falling apart, and with repairs often costing more than new... youre supposed to go buy a new one. so, you might as well just buy a cheaper one and be prepared to do so at least three times a decade.

  • Get a nice conventional top-loader without electronic controls.

  • Addendum: ...and without the screw-action agitator (dasher).

  • I'm glad our 16 yr old Whirlpool has lasted long enough so we don't have to replace it with a new machine. Then again, it's a top loader without all the electronics. Only spent about $20 bucks to replace the nylon 'dogs' to keep the top half of the agitator moving after the old ones wore out.

  • dude, just because yours is having problems does not mean the whole lot are problematic as well. Nothing is perfect my friend. We've had our set just like yours for 4 years and both washer/dryer work swimmingly. You clean the detergent drawer once a month in the dishwasher and use "HE" detergent and the German made washer will work as promised. But don't come on here and say that everyone will have problems like yours, that's ignorant. LG, Samsung, etc. will all have problems too.

  • I don't think everybody has problems with a Duet. It's just that they are known to be extremely picky with detergents. You cannot overload a Duet, because if you do it won't balance. Plus, a heavy load can damage the suspension. Then, it has to run through a cleaning cycle frequently to reduce mold problems, defeating the purpose of energy savings. This is NOT a beginner's machine!

  • hey the Interweb says this is due to the K4 relay on that PCB having burnt contacts... try popping the cover off and cleaning them up

  • Samsung, Lg and Electrolux is like the only good washing machines out there because they rarely fail.

  • I had my whirlpool duet for just over a year, and then a couple months after the warranty run out, I had a similar problem.

I could turn the washer on, but it wouldn't do anything at all...just the light flashed F-12. I had to pay $200 for the part, then the service man $70.

    Total rip off!

  • Also in Europe Whirlpool is crap !

  • Dealers or stores doesn't matter. The machine is flawed beyond what is considered acceptable maintenance. The spider that is mentioned is one of many flaws this unit has. The bellow is another. Items get stuck in the bellow and in between the drum and drum housing. Then it gets shredded and sent to the water pump filter where it creates havoc.

This unit is the Dodge or Chrysler of washer machines. Their reputation will catch up to them soon and they will need a government bailout too.

  • Well, it didn't broke down so far, and this christmas, it'll be washing for us for 6 years.

  • French made whirlpool 6th sense top loader: white greasy stuff on the outside of the drum. Stinks. I had to take it apart, and found brown silky sticky goo all around the rubber skirt. The skirt is hidden under a plastic, where you can load/unload the machine. You can't clean the machine unless you take it apart. It's a joke.

Almost forgot: 1200 rpm spin is noisy as hell, two storey house is ready for take off.

On the good side: it cleans clothes well, but only if it's clean.

  • They say oysters create pearls when they are irritated. If I were an oyster, I would have created a long string of pearls thanks to my Whirlpool Duet. I bought the extended warranties & had the repair folks out 6 times, waiting a week each time for an appointment. I've learned that top dollar does not mean top quality. Sorry for your frustrations. Even worse is when they DO run, they tear clothing. Class Action Lawsuit anyone? I appreciate the post. You are not alone!

  • Dear sir. Al that plasic machines, whirlpool, bauknecht, bosch, siemens, lg, samsung, rex, zanussi, candy etc, where made in cheap factorys in italy or korea.

It is garbage, and it is a pity that they sold you this kind of stealing money from the costumer.

I have worked 13 years with all the brands in the world, I have sold them. And I can asure you, there is one real good brand,

    and that is,

    Miele.

    Really..... the rest

    is

    garbage.

  • I have the same POS model. wait till you have the drum spider go out and destroy the two-halved plastic tub, this spider (drum-hub) is made of cast aluminum, so city water or country water, it will fail and cost about 900 w/labour. mine went at 4 years and the the warranty for the for the drum is 5 years and 10 years for the tub, and labour. can get warranty parts for a do it yourself repair (Im and aircraft mech by trade) so your stuck paying. I agree for 1400 this shouldn't happen JUNK

  • yeah, stay away from those American brands. Go for the European and Japanese ones.

  • doodles

  • I have the same exact error code at the same exact moment you get yours...I am soldering to fix it saw this on the web. Of course whilpool should fix this problem. but what are we Poor souls to do after we forked out $1400?

  • I have the Whirlpool Duet and it is awesome!!!!! Almost all washers only have a 1 year warranty. It sounds like your dealer needs to contact their service rep. and get this taken care of for you. Whirlpool does an excellent job of taking care of their customers. What you really need to beware of is LG and SamSung. Talk about pieces of crap. The Germans make the very best front loaders. You could have bought a factory extended warranty with 4 extra years for only $149.

  • RichNDana exucse me but it amazes me that you find nothing wrong with a $1400 laundry machine that only has a 1 year warranty. These new fangled machines have been plagued with maintenance nightmares. Sorry I'd rather waster water with my conventional top loader, which has been operating for 7 years (purchased in 2002 and hasn't skipped a beat)

  • i own the same exact washer and it it doing the same exact thing. i have already had it fixed once. DO NOT BUY WHIRLPOOL. THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS AND THEY WILL NOT HELP YOU. although my whirlpool warranty says that all electronic control boards are under warranty for 2 years. might want to check your paperwork

  • I have a duet and I have had it for a couple of years now It works just great No problems You gotta understand their made of electronics Get over it Things are gonna fell when they are mass produced Its called technology

  • I would charge you more just for buying this garbage.

    should have bought a Miele

    hahaha!!!!

  • 6 years and 4000 loads and mine just took a shit. My basket support cracked from corrosion and ripped a hole in the front tub. This will happen to all of the early model duets at one point or another. Had a bad drain pump a couple years ago but that was about it. Never had any trouble w/the electronics.

  • frontloaders can go to hell!!!

  • The 5 year service plan cost $250, if it survives a few more years you are still ahead of the game.

  • My parents have the same model of Duet and haven't had any problems with it of its three years of use.

  • get it off ebay. much cheeper

  • I owned both Whirlpool & GE's Hotpoint brands, and had problems with both (toploaders). I had thought about replacing my 9 year old Frigidaire front loader, but may hang onto it longer, as it's not had anywhere near the problems this video shows. I've cleaned it regularly, and never overload it. I however haven't always had to use HE detergent as most brands produce few suds. I only find P&G brands require HE, as those sud up too much if they're not HE branded.

  • I had an F11 and FH problem. As it turns out it was not anything electronic. The machine was not getting enough of a water supply. At the back of your machine where the water hose supply connects to the machine for water intake there is a very fine screen. If this screen gets dirt or any kind of débris caught in it the machine won't operate. I paid $350 for a repair man to unhook my hose and wipe of a tiny screen. Check your intake hose.

  • ALSO! Remove the lower front panel and look for the drain pump. On the Kenmore HE3 there is a removable cover that allows you access to the impeller area in a second. We found a pencil in our pump that made the machine do the same thing. without the pump moving it considers itself another error. I do think it was E11 - Inside the cover did you find any service manuals?

  • This video sucks! Proper Boring!

  • Hi 747, I'm not too familiar with you tube but if you email me or send me a note I would not mind explaining the FH to you so that you won't have to spend the $385 that I did. I'd explain it here but not enough room. I think that I can help you with the F11 also.

  • Did you really figure out how to fix this problem?? My Duet washer is 4 years old, I spend more time in the laundry room then with my family with f11 and fdl codes ~~~ no job, cant pay a repair person~ Bemoreonline

  • I don't know about Canadian Law but in English Law, as long as you INITIALLY took it back within the warranty period - which I understand you did - any subsequent problems can be covered if they are a continuation of the original complaint under warranty.

    Good luck!

  • F11 is the door lock relay on the control board. Maybe you got a bad board. the only other option is to scavage for an old relay off of another control board. Frigidaire uses the same relay on a lot of their products. hope this helps :D

  • What did you do to screw up your washer? I've bought Whirlpool products for 30 years and haven't had a problem with any of them.

  • Guess I should go out and buy a lottery ticket. Seems I'm pretty lucky. 4yo Duet washer and dryer. Not a moment's trouble out of either. Use HE detergent. Clean out the pump entrapment periodically. It's not rocket science.

  • Well unfortanitly to your ignorance it's not just whirlpool that sucks. It's the whole fucking industy. I own an appliance repair buisness. And the stuff I see is junk. GE is the worst. And whirlpool compaired to the rest of the industy is the best. And that is a sad statement. Buy the cheapest and expect to have no longer than 8 years.

  • You are so right. Thanks for honesty.

  • we got the same set of problems you have. service guy in the house right now. i bought it based on a good consumer reports rating. guess that is bullshit

  • allow me to purchase you a jackhammer and some tylenol the jackhammer would cost around 8.50 and the tylenol 6.45 and jackhammer that piece of sh*t!!!! have a wonderful day!

  • How did we as a society ever allow are selves to accept this one year warranty crap by manufactures. I can remember as a kid things having 5,10,15,& even 20 year warranties on them. Just what the hell has happened? And what can we do to change it back? There should be laws against anything having less than a 10 year warranty just to protect us. This one and two year warranty crap is without a doubt absolutely positively criminal. Manufactures have become rip off artist and liars. From USA

  • It's because Americans are stupid and don't bother to read contracts and many of them don't understand or read appliance instructions. I have a housemate who is like this. He couldn't understand the simple instructions for his cell phone.

  • The problem is that the circuit board is attached to the washer, when it starts to shake it causes the connections to loosen and theats the fault code you get.

How I fixed this was to suspend the circuit from a bungie strap this will allow the washer to shake all it wants and the circuit board is stable, connections stay tight andwasher works fine, after 6 months not one error code at all.

  • I to have had the duet night mare... I replaced the drive belt lat spring, the motor last fall and just had the service man out again because the drum is shaking only to find out it is the bearing 499.00 for the part plus labor. I called duet and they were willing to give me 20% off the price of my new whirlpool washer. Seems that going green to save the earth energy and water has cost me a lot of green. I am going direct drive this time.

  • Oh I forgot the most important part my washer is 5 years old. I also told the lady on the phone that I will be spreading the word about the product everytime I set foot into a store that sells appliances, I will make it a point to go thru the washer section and spread the word. You all should do the same

  • Adding to previous post, the stainless basket mfd. by an independent vendor is on backorder. Our Duet-aka-YUGO has been broke since Feb 5th 08, is 4 years old. Whirlpool hopes to have backordered baskets by 28 march, then when they get it to repairman is ??? They are not too gracious about service or standing behind their products. Makes me mad as I've recommended them to several clients I've built homes for, my bad. They should be gathered and discarded in the CEO's front yard.

  • Your duet's shaking is due to a rear bearing going out. It's not replaceable, its a one piece assembly with the rear half of the outer drum,$494, it will ruin the shaft attached to the stainless basket also a one piece assembly, $498 and likely ruin the front rubber seal and front outer drum $117 and $76. Labor to fix is over $400. Ours is on a new solid 2x10 w/ 3/4 ply subfloor, and level. Whirlpool offered a 15% discount towards new one, or 50% off parts. Whirlpool/YUGO same difference.

  • Wow, sorry you have had a bad experience. I have the WFW9200, the most recent edition of your washer. IT works great! I have cleaned the filter a few times, for what it is worth. always leave the door and drawer open when done. use soft water. and it is located on a cement floor, for stability. Don't give up. Front loaders are awesome, quiet, use 1/3 the water, 1/2 the electric, and get clothes cleaner. Better luck with your next purchase.

  • i love whirlpool all there washers i have bought have been great

i think (i hope) this is the only bad model and they will work out the bugs

  • i guess thats why the price dropped so much since it came out... crappy whirlpool, i feel sorry for you buying this product and paying that much...

  • I have the same washer and after 36 months, you guessed it, I am having the same problem!! It worked like a charm for the first 36 months and now the F11 code and/or F dl code allows the washer to hold my clothes hostage. If you search the web many people have experienced the same problem and NOTHING has been done by Whirlpool. It is so frustrating that after spending over $1,300.00 for this machine, there is no recourse in getting improvements for an obvious Whirlpool flaw.

  • My duet works pretty good. never had any problems with it. Just look up scribblesomeone in the searchbar if you want to see mine.

  • I agree with the problems and errosrs like F11 and FDL. However I have temporarily fixed mine by cleaning the drain pump area on the bottom of the washer. Remove 3 screws from bottom and unscrew the large valve. Mine actually had a sock in it. I saw another video with a sock in there's on you tube as well. He actually has a video on how to clean it. For now it has saved me several hundred dollars. I know this works.

  • What is the model and serial number. I live in the lower 48 and some of the duets have a longer warranty on the electronics. I am sorry you are having so much trouble with your duet. I work for a service company and I have seen the Duet has a much better track record compared to most other brand front load machines. I currently own Whirlpool appliances because I believe they are better than most other brands out there.

  • Next time buy European, they're not designed to break like American products are, or save yourself a lot of hassle and buy a conventional top loader. Yes you'll waste a lot of water, but you'll never have to spend money on repairs. And the initial cost won't be as much

  • The whirlpool Duets are German made. can't have more European Than that.

  • @buddyno2000 And there are a ton of folks out there who see "Made in Germany" and automatically believe it means "this is the best". I learnt otherwise with two cars and a very expensive open-reel tape recorder.

  • Mine smells of disgusting mold! Whirlpool customer service does not care about the consumer. I've had serveral repairmen out to address this and it's the same answer, do the bleach,Affresh tablets, white wine vinegar etc. Let's do class action.

  • That can happen to any front load machine. The one key thing to when you are not running the machine is to leave the door open so the tub can dry out. Shutting the door locks the moisture in thus generating the mold problem.

  • I've done all of that and more so. Nothing works! For example, the newly-developed Affresh tablets, white wine vinegar, baking soda, leaving the door open, washing the machine with bleach, etc, and etc.

  • Are you using HE detergent? Is the washer in a very humid environment?

  • I have used Tide HE detergeant since we bought the machine, and the machine is located in my laundry room which is well ventilated and has a fan.

  • I think some of it depends on where you live. I used to live in Houston, TX and the water there is hard and the environment is very humid. I noticed that all brands of front load machines tend develop a musty/moldy smell inside. I recently moved to Colorado where the water is much softer and drier climate. I have noticed that the musty/moldy smell in front load machines is not as common.

  • I live in Southern California where humidity is not a problem, as well as I have installed in my home a Rainsoft water softener and purifier. To me, there's really no more excuses to be made on behalf of Whirlpool. It's a bad product. A washinging maching should clean your dirty clothes, not need a cleaning or cause your laundry to smell.

  • I would, in my opinion from experience, advise everybody not to buy Whirlpool, Kenmore or Maytag products as they are all manufactured by Whirlpool, who does not want to have accountability for this issue.

  • I live in Bethesda MD and I DO believe a class action is smart. Is one underway??

I have this EXACT SAME ISSUE the video shows--the F11 error code. I have treated this washer with utmost care and respect, followed ALL user instructions and only done 1 load a week since purchase in 9/2005. This is the WORST consumer experience I have ever had.

  • Wow thats to bad.. we have had ours for almost 2 years and have had no problems at all with ours. In fact it's the best washer we have ever had. I can wash two (2) sleeping bags at once.

  • someone give this guy his money back and a jackhammer to smash it!

  • Man I am glad I watched your video, my wife just put away a duet washer and dryer. I walked in the store and told them not interested. Thanks again

  • ***UPDATE***

The computer control unit (CCU) is cuurently on back order. I have been without this washer for a month. Now I can count on another 1 to 2 months of going to the laundrymat.

  • thanks for helping me change my mind about picking up a duet from whirlpool

  • Jonny,

These are awesome machines. Unfortuneately so many idiots buy from Lowes, Costco and other retailers that doen't take care of issues that customers have. LG, SamSung and GE are garbage machines made in China. Whirlpool will take excellent care of you if your dealer takes the time to make them aware of ANY problems.

  • What's this all aboot, eh!

  • It's showing consumers what a hunk of junk the Whirlpool Duet is.

  • W00t! First post!

Way too many electronics for a washing machine.
