Mac was origionally designed for photo and video editing, it has now evolved to the everyday advanced computer, the types of suites that it offers eg. iLife, iWork are far superior to the windows os. They both have pros and cons but from a stand point of view the Mac does overule slightly, its like comparing xbox to ps3, xbox has better connection (from a wifi standard) and also has xbox live party and private chat, where as ps3 does not, although ps3 has better graphics and an updated os.

I would really love to have a MacBook pro but I can't afford one atm, I think I'm going to buy a $500 PC and use the rest of my money towards college or other important stuff, once I graduate or have some spare money I'll buy the most expensive MacBook they have at the time.
i have run OS X, i have run Linux, but, i use a windows machine for my daily OS. i have a custom built desktop, and i have a Toshiba laptop. I had a macbook but i got rid of it because i didn't use it much at all so i was able to make a few bucks off of it. OS X is great, just doesn't do everything that i want it to do.

Sata III ssd's have already hit the market months ago ( vertex 3 for example). so have sata III mobo's since 1st quarter. customizable? not as much yet.
@LALDYmedia for years mac HARDWARE was always far behind windows computers ( especially for those who were wise enough to custom built) mac JUST NOW finally caught up with the macbook pro with the 2011 models containing sandy bridge 2nd gen intel cpu's. per apple support none of the other apple computers have the sandy bridge yet but probably will later this year. they're still using ddr 3 1333mhz ram. when ddr 3 2000 and 2400mhz ram has been available since 1st quarter 2011. nice try though.

I have a question, what would be defined as a "Power User"? I'm very open to new ideas... as long as it doesn't cost money. I've used Mac OS X at school and I think it's okay, but what I don't like about it is customization that Linux provides. Mac is pretty cool though, don't get me wrong, just not my forte. Windows 7 has been very faithful to me, but I guess I can't say it's better than Mac OS X because I haven't used it for long. Currently, I'm interested in Linux.
Thanks to many aspiring geeks (Chris including one), I have been able to live in a world of multiple operating systems and I ordered my first macintosh because of this.

I don't think so. Apple's OS didn't come from UNIX, it was built on top of UNIX. That is a distinct difference. The kernel is completely different in the two.

I'm a pc fan. I can upgrade things as my budget allows. They only require basic hand tools to facilitate upgrading. I also run a raid 10 and a raid 1 for data/os respectively and retain my 2 gtx 295's running 5040 x 1050 resolution for surround gaming.
Having said all that, being a pc fan does not make me a windows fan! i'm a linux fan. Sorry, but for servers like the ones running youtube, facebook and banks. unix/linux rules supreme and without them, you all wouldn't be online.
I run mine with Duel Boot. I fire up Win 7 on my Mac and play ALL my PC games WITHOUT issue and great performance with my 1GB ATI Video Card which I have in my iMac (i7)

For me: Mac and here's why. The operating system is more stable, and I love Expose. If there's an instance I need Windows-specific software, I can easily just load up Parallels and use that software as such. Also, Macs are built better (in my opinion), and have great battery life. If the battery dies, I don't mind sending it into Apple to exchange for the same price of having a user-replaceable battery.
MAC. I think every pc user knows that mac is better but they just don't want to admit it because they're too pussy to save a few extra bucks. Therefore, they are saying that what THEY have is better. I have a pc, and I think that macs are better. Closed minded ass holes.
If we could drop the illusion of one OS vs another and see the real prospective of what an OS is designed for, we would quickly realize all it does is serve the user software to work with nothing else. If you strip it bare naked they are all practically the same on paper, all capable vulnerabilities, viruses and bugs. Why because they are designed on the principle of machine language and what is that? ones and zeros!

i know i jumped ship about 3.5 years ago and gave mac a try with a simple mac mini and today i am still using the very same mac and will buy another and i have had not a single crash and i use it every day to rip dvd's burn music and even play a few blizzard games seance blizzard never releases a game till it is ready for the mac and pc at the same time

I'd gladly give a Mac a try (if only to have a basis for valid criticism), but Apple's asking prices are a bit too rich for my blood, and i refuse to buy a refurbished. I've been using Windows as long as i've used computers, but i have no problems with OSX (Having never used it, i can't criticize it), and i've played with Linux, and find it OK.
If it weren't for MS, Apple would have gone bankrupt in the 90's. (Watch the 1998 Mac World convention and see my point.) If it weren't for Apple, Windows 7/Vista wouldn't have many of the features they have now. Respect both and live your life.
Agreed, if I had money, I'd try Mac, but if I have to choose one or the other, I'd choose Windows, as I know it is compatible with most of my software.
@nullins Don't get the Mac if you only want to play games. For most other things, I'd say the Mac is worth it. If anything, you could get the Mac and spend maybe $120 more and buy Windows 7 Home Premium.
I've used PC's (Note Mac's are Personal Computers AKA PC's) and I will have to say I like the Windows OS better then the Macintosh OS due to its more open tools and the larger support team, as well as myself having the option to upgrade or build my own without shelling out boatloads of income. In my opinion, I believe that Mac's are a waste of money. (I've built FAR SUPERIOR computers for half the price of what Mac's cost today.)
@bullettotheboard - if you are a Linux guy, then you should be Mac - it is 100% Unix, and comes (right off the shelf) with all the open source software unix developers use all the time.

@noizekontrol The term PC was given to the specific IBM computer line back in the 70's-80's that delineates between IBM business computers and the newer line of IBM personal computers.. Since Amiga, Atari, Mac, Commodore 64. etc.. did not have different lines of computers (for business and personal) there was no need to add the term "PC" to their name..

Often the most common brand is associated closely with the product type, like Americans call tissues Kleenex or how we call public address systems here in the UK Tannoys. A Mac is a PC yes, but it's a Mac too, there's a distinction, it's a brand. Calling it a Mac implies it doesn't run Windows (although it obviously can if you wish it to).
@danrulz98 Isn't that for their workstations and servers? They made it to run with the Itanium CPU's they made with Intel didn't they? I recently found out they're still quite commonly used and produced too which was a bit of a shock considering there's much better solutions both in x86 CISC and RISC based CPU's (like the Power7 line). Not to say they're bad, I just thought they'd fallen out of favour because they screwed up early on, newer versions aren't too shabby mind.
@danrulz98 Aye, IBM had OS/2 they were co-developing with Microsoft in the early 90's, which Microsoft backed out of and instead created Windows NT based on a lot of the tech they (both) produced. NTFS is one such tech created for that project as well as the PS/2 slots still found on PC's for mouse and keyboard input!

Considering the price, Mac is a luxury compared to PC, because you can do practically the same thing on a Mac as you can do on a PC, but you do it faster, easier, and with less stress. Mac is worth the price, although. The price of a Mac does not lie besides for the fact Apple makes you pay more for hard disk space and memory.
People need to stop arguing about which one's better. Same with Linux, and Linux people themselves. I have a MacBook and a Toshiba PC. The MacBook has Snow Leopard, the Toshiba has Ubuntu and Windows Vista. They're all great.
With Linux I only chose Ubuntu because it was the fastest to install. It doesn't mater which kernel you use, Fedora, SUSE, BSD, Mandriva, Ubuntu, they're all great. Ubuntu has an installer for Windows though.

i have windows 7 and xp too on other boot drives , windows is shit compared OSX for what i do , video and audio and also the PC hardware i have is not as good as Mac workstations . . and it cost just as much and i had to build it ..
@asaholey , dude back ground timing and music related tasks in windows are not handled well , esp MIDI , Mac OSX does the trick even on low power computer , windows does not it is a fudge up , problem is windows does not multitask at this low level timing. i can do the job but it is not setup out of box to to the job . @kenspocket There are some technical differences in the way Macs and PC set up audio and MIDI devices. Clearly, the Mac provides better access to your MIDI and Audio systems in its Audio/MIDI Utility, compared to the Windows Control Panel "Sounds" directory. but doesn't mean better sound quality.

@LALDYmedia also although the ssd memchips of the ssd they use on the Air & the WHOLE ssd they use as an upgrade option in the macbook PRO are good ( samsung 470 series for the record sata II ), the controllers & garbage collection built in BOTH are at least 15% less efficient than sandforce 1200 found in sata II mushkin callisto deluxe ssd's. Sata III ssd's have already hit the market months ago ( vertex 3 for example). so have sata III mobo's since 1st quarter. customizable? not as much yet.

@LALDYmedia for years mac HARDWARE was always far behind windows computers ( especially for those who were wise enough to custom built) mac JUST NOW finally caught up with the macbook pro with the 2011 models containing sandy bridge 2nd gen intel cpu's. per apple support none of the other apple computers have the sandy bridge yet but probably will later this year. they're still using ddr 3 1333mhz ram. when ddr 3 2000 and 2400mhz ram has been available since 1st quarter 2011. nice try though.

@LALDYmedia Now REGARDLESS when Lion comes out.I DEFINITELY plan to get a macbook air 13.3" because apple HAS finally bridged the gap between their OVER pricing & end user o.s. bang for the buck experience. I have YET to see software made for windows that can compete with garage band through ipad2 & how Steve Jobs said it would work through Lion. @LALDYmedia & i got news for ya..STILL there is MUCH larger selection of computer games that WONT work as well or with the highest eye candy settings on a mac ( even using parallels or boot camp to play through win 7 as virtual o.s.) compared to the computer games that are MADE to run on windows. same issue with using PlayonLinux in ubuntu 10.04 like playing starcraft 2 for example. That's y I refuse to game on Linux based o.s.'s still and only windows. games JUST WORK like they are SUPPOSED to

I have a question, what would be defined as a "Power User"? I'm very open to new ideas... as long as it doesn't cost money. I've used Mac OS X at school and I think it's okay, but what I don't like about it is customization that Linux provides. Mac is pretty cool though, don't get me wrong, just not my forte. Windows 7 has been very faithful to me, but I guess I can't say it's better than Mac OS X because I haven't used it for long. Currently, I'm interested in Linux.

I don't think so. Apple's OS didn't come from UNIX, it was built on top of UNIX. That is a distinct difference. The kernel is completely different in the two.

I'm a pc fan. I can upgrade things as my budget allows. They only require basic hand tools to facilitate upgrading. I also run a raid 10 and a raid 1 for data/os respectively and retain my 2 gtx 295's running 5040 x 1050 resolution for surround gaming.
Having said all that, being a pc fan does not make me a windows fan! i'm a linux fan. Sorry, but for servers like the ones running youtube, facebook and banks. unix/linux rules supreme and without them, you all wouldn't be online.

$2200 .... but ... you need to consider part of that was a 27" LED monitor with a resolution of 2560x1440. The monitor alone is worth over $1000
So if you compare that to lets say a PC tower ... $1200 is what I paid for my i7 iMac.

Regardless, yes .. we agree. Some stuff we buy for hundreds can cost as little as $15-$20 to make.
Think about ink in an ink cartridges .. made in HUGE VATS .. and if you think what we pay per milli-litre ... it is OUTSTANDING what we pay. Probably a good 2000% profit in the pocket of the company.
But you get that EVERYWHERE ... so now I try to buy for quality and reliability.... hence the Mac .. ;-)

For me: Mac and here's why. The operating system is more stable, and I love Expose. If there's an instance I need Windows-specific software, I can easily just load up Parallels and use that software as such. Also, Macs are built better (in my opinion), and have great battery life. If the battery dies, I don't mind sending it into Apple to exchange for the same price of having a user-replaceable battery.

If we could drop the illusion of one OS vs another and see the real prospective of what an OS is designed for, we would quickly realize all it does is serve the user software to work with nothing else. If you strip it bare naked they are all practically the same on paper, all capable vulnerabilities, viruses and bugs. @stephon972 Don't judge the quality of one or another just because one broke down, I wanted a Mac before, i know they look really nice i used one for about a week at my cousins and i found them to be no special, i still like them both though. As this guy said before, get the one you want, get the one you that will make you happier.
Even though one may be generally better then the other, personal opinion on the OS really matters the most.

@RJPBurtonBoards and i do understand that if mac did not keep such a tight grip on the hardware that the os runs on it to would probably have allot more problems but in the real world this is not how it is so the fact that apple can pick what hardware there osx is ran on they can in turn refine the drivers and in turn have a very good mirage between hardware and software

I'd gladly give a Mac a try (if only to have a basis for valid criticism), but Apple's asking prices are a bit too rich for my blood, and i refuse to buy a refurbished. I've been using Windows as long as i've used computers, but i have no problems with OSX (Having never used it, i can't criticize it), and i've played with Linux, and find it OK.

I've used PC's (Note Mac's are Personal Computers AKA PC's) and I will have to say I like the Windows OS better then the Macintosh OS due to its more open tools and the larger support team, as well as myself having the option to upgrade or build my own without shelling out boatloads of income. In my opinion, I believe that Mac's are a waste of money. (I've built FAR SUPERIOR computers for half the price of what Mac's cost today.)

@noizekontrol The term PC was given to the specific IBM computer line back in the 70's-80's that delineates between IBM business computers and the newer line of IBM personal computers.. Since Amiga, Atari, Mac, Commodore 64. etc.. did not have different lines of computers (for business and personal) there was no need to add the term "PC" to their name..

Often the most common brand is associated closely with the product type, like Americans call tissues Kleenex or how we call public address systems here in the UK Tannoys. A Mac is a PC yes, but it's a Mac too, there's a distinction, it's a brand. Calling it a Mac implies it doesn't run Windows (although it obviously can if you wish it to).

@danrulz98 Isn't that for their workstations and servers? They made it to run with the Itanium CPU's they made with Intel didn't they? I recently found out they're still quite commonly used and produced too which was a bit of a shock considering there's much better solutions both in x86 CISC and RISC based CPU's (like the Power7 line). Not to say they're bad, I just thought they'd fallen out of favour because they screwed up early on, newer versions aren't too shabby mind.

@danrulz98 Aye, IBM had OS/2 they were co-developing with Microsoft in the early 90's, which Microsoft backed out of and instead created Windows NT based on a lot of the tech they (both) produced. NTFS is one such tech created for that project as well as the PS/2 slots still found on PC's for mouse and keyboard input!

I love how this guy pretends he and all others interested in technology need to love both PC and Mac to be true smart/educated computer nerds. Yet he somehow bashes PC and praises Mac. That lady has obviously no idea what's been happening in the industry since windows 7. I've not gotten one call from a mac user in over a year.....Sorry certified tech here.

@loveisamistake When this video was made Windows 7 was a year away from being available. My brother has Windows 7 and I have an iMac with OSX. Windows 7 is just a wannabe Mac.

to people who dont know Macs are better and cheaper in the sense of high grade computers and will not get viruses any time soon since alot of people say windows 7 blah blah blah this will steal thunder from Macs but when apple actually works on Macintosh again (which apple has not work on at all barely) The new better macs will destroy even windows 15 and Linux and Hp and yeah
FYI Mac minis are the worst Mac you can get but they are still good

I did a laptop comparison on my own and i found out Mac laptops are cheaper and better or could be even more better if you upgrade another time but cost more NOTE I am comparing the best dell with best features and macs laptops Also the Challange is the best cheaper computer....FYI Macs will not get any virus any time soon mainly since they for now are more focused on their iphones and when they do go back to mac it will be WAY BEtter then any windows also windows 7 stole thunder thus no virus

Considering the price, Mac is a luxury compared to PC, because you can do practically the same thing on a Mac as you can do on a PC, but you do it faster, easier, and with less stress. Mac is worth the price, although. The price of a Mac does not lie besides for the fact Apple makes you pay more for hard disk space and memory.

People need to stop arguing about which one's better. Same with Linux, and Linux people themselves. I have a MacBook and a Toshiba PC. The MacBook has Snow Leopard, the Toshiba has Ubuntu and Windows Vista. They're all great.
With Linux I only chose Ubuntu because it was the fastest to install. It doesn't mater which kernel you use, Fedora, SUSE, BSD, Mandriva, Ubuntu, they're all great. Ubuntu has an installer for Windows though.

@asaholey , i had a mac quad G5 very nice machine just sold , now i have a self built hackintosh i7 930 , NVIDIA 8800 GTS 512 running OSX 10.6 , etc faster CPU but disk access in use is not so good and the machine stalls sometimes. EX58UD5 mobo , 6GB ram ..
i have windows 7 and xp too on other boot drives , windows is shit compared OSX for what i do , video and audio and also the PC hardware i have is not as good as Mac workstations . . and it cost just as much and i had to build it ..

@kenspocket you're comparing hardwares with you eyes close. cheap built in soundcard (realtek) on a pc motherboard vs a mac.
@kenspocket this is not how you compare sound quality in diff platform.
you have to compare same brand soundcard on both mac and windows.
example rme or echo usb soundcards. they are both mac and windows compatible.
i bet, you will never hear the difference.

@asaholey , dude back ground timing and music related tasks in windows are not handled well , esp MIDI , Mac OSX does the trick even on low power computer , windows does not it is a fudge up , problem is windows does not multitask at this low level timing. i can do the job but it is not setup out of box to to the job . Mac OSX is .

@kenspocket There are some technical differences in the way Macs and PC set up audio and MIDI devices. Clearly, the Mac provides better access to your MIDI and Audio systems in its Audio/MIDI Utility, compared to the Windows Control Panel "Sounds" directory. but doesn't mean better sound quality.

@asaholey , yes is does , it means better timing , unless your on a workstation setup correctly . that cost just as much as a mac pro workstation . windows does not work for music on your typical high street pc , any mac will do .

@asaholey , Macs are used in the same field of medical research google OsiriX Imaging Software , Mac practice MD ultra sound and so on ,and as for music and audio go to abbey road studios website and take a good look in the control room , now i wonder why they use osx logic studio , final cut studio and OSX . PRODUCTIVITY!

@kenspocket that's only few. how about the other bands and singers? are they all using mac?do they sound better than the other? can you identify music that are composed on mac? are does music made on mac makes them top 10 on charts? maybe you are referring to logic pro? logic pro is former owned by emagic (logic audio platinum)Windows-based product until 2002. and it is a great product.

@asaholey 95% of music studios use Mac , where have you been ? and many video studios are switched to Mac osx final cut . it is the way industry is going avid is still the player ,both mac and PC ,Mac mostly for expansion racks , but that is not an option for any single musician or producer it is to expensive . look dude Apple offer affordable machines for pro users , and for the best part work out of the box. windows does not , look at windows and 32/64bit its a joke m8 . .its painful 2use

as i said. apple just bought it. the reason why they are moving to mac coz they want to make music as simple as possible by using presets (no originality). coz it is not worth the effort due to piracy.

@asaholey its down to the user to make their music the tools are there .if your going mac i would get your self a mac pro , new line out next week in august . it is worth it .i sold my g5 quad , to go intel ,and built a hackintosh i7, but its not as good ,disk i/o and poss drivers at mo dont work well .cpu score is better ,but disk i/o and other stuff is not .fact is Apple has 91% of market for $1,000+ PCs, says NPD , most of those users are pro users , many of those are music and video makers.
