  • Excellent interview! Thank you very much for posting this.

  • If you haven't already seen, check out video called "Badalamenti Twin Peaks Love Theme" .

It's actually first in the related videos. There Angelo describes the creation of "Laura Palmer's theme" in more detail.

  • my favorite film composer. straight story has one of the best soundtracks ever. wish i could met him over a cup of espresso.

  • The only person that could even come close to Angelo is Vangelis these guys are powerful musicians.

  • The happiest day of David Lynch's professional life must have been the day Badalamenti delivered the music for Twin Peaks. Music so gorgeous and right that it just sends the show right in to orbit...

  • i love the amount of thought that goes into every one of their bodies of work. so many movies/tv shows are just slapped together & so cookie-cutter. It's never like that It Lynch & Badalamenti

  • He's my hero.

I don't heroize many men, but he is one of my male heroes neverending.

  • His soundtrack for The Straight Story, is marvellous

  • Thanks man for this interview..

  • a true joy to watch and listen - the two are completely inspiring.

  • what great minds....both Angelo Badalamenti and David Lynch.

That scene with Angelo and the espresso in Mulholland Drive made me laugh out loud in the theater.

I hope they work together soon on something else memorable....

  • incredible dude :)

  • woow, this is a great man!

  • 1st time i have seen you you are brilliant

  • i agree, angelo is a brillant composer!

  • "I'm not half as good as Schostakovich"

    pssshhh he's way too modest!

  • I think he means technically, like classically and formally. Shostakovitch was an architect who built great big symphonies, while Badalamenti uses a different form.

A similar dynamic is like Duke Ellington and his arraigner Billy Strayhorn, Duke was a brilliant musician but he often called on Strahorn's classical education for structural advice for longer pieces.

Strayhorn wrote "Take The 'A' Train". He was also one of the first openly gay jazz musicians. But I digress...

  • no he isnt, but he's good with films

    lets not get carried away...

  • Great stuff. Thanks for posting it. I like this piano version (at the end) much better than movie version.

  • ...the Sycamore trees...

  • very interesting story. This guy looks a little like George Tenet. Story about the rich guy into construction? Sort of... Perhaps more like demolition?

  • He looks like my father

  • "Sort of"

    .......

    ...

    "Kind of"

LOL! great interview, they make a perfect director/composer team!

  • Great interview. Cool guy.

  • i love his "the beach score"

  • i couldnt imagine a better song than starlight in that scene it brings it to a whole new level everything a score is there for

  • he also speaks using hes hands, like Lynch.

  • pity they don't play laura palmer's theme when he's talking about it

  • The best at what he does.

  • He's such an inspriation...Lynch may make the body, but Badalamenti puts meat on the bones. They're a great partership though, because Lynch's lyrics are great too.

  • YAY!!

  • wich song is it that he plays at the end of the video? :/

  • "Main Title Theme" from Mulholland Drive. That version isn't played on piano though...

  • ahh okey:P thx

  • the way he speaks and moves his hands/fingers really remembers me of lynch. it is obvious that they spend lots of time together. and hopefully will do

  • i got that feeling too

  • they are the perfect marriage of sound and vision - he seems like such a great guy too - amazing charisma - yeah the love scene badalamenti search that its amazing - he tells the story so well

  • you talked like lynch there

  • ALmost like Angelo Badalamenti writes Lynch movies with his music? Works for me.

  • cool

  • that scene from mullholand dr is hilarious!

  • If you guys haven't seen it, there's a great special feature on the Twin Peaks Gold Box set where Angelo is telling this story as he slowly evolves the music on the piano. It's very awesome.

This clip is cool too, but I preferred the other.

  • yeah the golden box 'making of the music' is bettter cos he is actually playing the keyboard whilsty describing the story. good shit

  • Is it possible to upload that on youtube? :)

  • Great video, thanks for posting. :)

  • Anyone know what he has done lately?

  • Life of Pi (2009)

    The Eye (2007)

    The Wicker Man (2006)

    Dark Water (2005)

    Fahrenheit (2005)

    A Very Long Engagement (2002)

  • David and Angelo are an incredible duo...I wish Lynch made a film every 2 years!!

  • nice post

  • His music for The Straight Story is as great as the movie is. GREAT! And Twin Peaks... Can anybody forget it? :) Master!

  • grazie angelo, ci hai fatto vivere più intensamente molti film

  • Angelo's music is amazing

  • Wow!! I thought that was the guy. It was a real treat see him talk about his music and interaction with Lynch. Angelo B is what to D Lynch what B Hermann was to A Hitchcock who D. Elfman is to T. Burton.

  • Angelo is probably one of the greatest filmmusic makers in the world. You can almost not imagine a Lynch film without his music, it just fits like the hand in a glove.

  • It's always nice and inspirational to finally see someone whose art you've admired for years, and discover that they are as humble and down-to-earth as Badalamenti is here. A unique composer, I love his themes from Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks and The Straight Story.

  • The best suspended chord smith in the world!!!

  • I can't wait to hear his work on Alan Wake.

  • Are you kidding? He is working on that game? The same game that will never see the light of day?

  • Are those sounds in the background that of knives, forks, spoons, glasses and dishes? Must be a restaurant which would be highly appropriate judging by the size of Angelo's waistline...oh, just kidding! I love Angelo! Bravo! Bravisimo Video! Thanks Martinirosen!

  • Angelo, Angelo! Fantastico! Bravo! Cest Magnifique!

  • badalamenti really is something...

  • fantastic composer. thanks!

  • Very inspirational!

    Thanks!

  • Great composer. Great person.

  • interesting monologue on cooperation with lynch, i must to admit

  • brillant!

  • Fantastic person and it´s also fascinating to hear how close he works with Lynch, like Lynch says - "action and reaction".

  • thanks alot for this, I'd only seen a bit of this before.
