Most of the people who wrote the Constitution were Christians, I believe. And even if people don't agree with it, the First Amendment says that government shall not establish religion. In other words, it's the law.

There are other ways to evangelize: invite people to church, do charity, pamphlet, etc, and it's also written into the Constitution that all these things are encouraged.
