  • Xie xie!

  • blah blah... other martial arts teach the same thing dude, nothing special there.

  • Inception Vs. Interception...

  • what if your enemy intercepts your interception ? huh ? why don't you bring in the video the case where your counter-strike/kick gets intercepted by the enemy

  • @pcgamesolution When someone intercepts they get there quicker by following a straight line towards the opponent while the opponents attack is on a curved path. Therefore its technically impossible unless the speed difference between you and your enemy is enormous in which case their original attack would succeed.

  • Fuck you, Bud Lite. I'm 19! i came for awesome martial arts!!

  • I appreciate the Sifu's insight and skill he explains JKD well, I only would offer a minor correction to his comment regarding the old TV show in which Bruce offered an explanation and description of his art. I remember it was not Marlow (which was a motion picture in the late sixties) the television show in which Bruce appeared was... Long Street.. which aired in 1970-71 on ABC.

  • I like it. I'd also add that intercepting can be done even if the strong side is not put forward. It can be done in close range with no lead at all and it can even be done on the ground... Good clip though...

  • I swear Bruce Lee talked about the interception in Longstreet.

  • WOW!!!

I am practising an very effective Kung fu style but .... This system convinced me totally!

  • all of you are children in the arts hahaha

  • @DangerSchlong you are very correct ,.. every martial artist is a child in the art, always learning , always growing, it is the day one stops learning they start to post haha comments. ; )

i am forever below white belt and always above any form of status.

  • @ bajanMMA dude you have no idea what you are talking about. That made me laugh reading your comments. Have you met Dan Inosanto? No didn't think so. I have.

  • @ theGreenman I just met Dan Inosanto the yesterday. He is a wonderful instructor. It's too bad about Linda

  • Speed and timing are complementary and speed in a stroke will lose most of its effectiveness unless the stroke is properly timed. Reaction time is the time gap between a stimulus and the response. The techniques of preparatory movement can be improved so that response time is shortened. If you don't learn your timing right Jay is going to land that right hook.

  • fuck yr bull shit superior technology. Stupid longhand thickheads.

  • Looks like boker t

  • The One thing I really hate about expertvillage is that it doesnt have more detailed explanation in to doing a certain type of tutorial such as this. Instead of having the vids freakin 1:00, have at least the vid 5+ minutes....

  • The show wasn't Marlow, it was Longstreet. Just so its clear. Though Bruce did appear in Marlow, he played a bad guy.

  • good i give 1/10

  • He should have practiced no style just fight until submission.

Werstling, boxing, Mauy Thai. etc all has simmilar entries from standing as in the video but lee could not show them because he was not aware. he trained kickbox and grappling seperately from junfan. Insted of flowing from strike entry to wrestling entry etc

  • people controlled what was taught. If you allow people to fight free of form or a special starting position & finish when one submits you will see true fighting for what it is. Lee reference point narrowed his view & his breakthrough. He experimented with styles insted of fighting.

  • Dan and bruce searched the styles for simmilarities so one can improve his style of fighting not to be a JKD student. When on the ground a person may straddle you. This will happen in every country with all humans gaurantee. Why not start here as oppose to Jun Fan as the reference point.. Jun Fan, wign Chun, kali were lee's strengths. styles exist because of politics.

  • lil wayne/booker-t

  • Same philosofy as in Aikido for example.

    5 Stars

  • awesome thanks

  • Oke lordtains, does wing chun use the higher principles of interception cause JKD had like 10 ways to intercept. And i clearly see the difference just in stance alone, like WC has 3 basic stances and JKD 1. Power in the punch in JKD is maximized in a short amount of time because of the lead hand and body position. No need for me to downgrade WC, on the contrary. Bruce Lee himself said "a great style" but like any style, it has limits.

  • Wing Chun is all about interception, in wing chun we call it bridging.

  • Thanks for your info, appreciate it.

  • @jazz123214 yes that's corect

  • It was "Longstreet" not Marlowe

  • ^__^ One thing i love in JKD is that it's like Filipino Martial Arts... Try to get this... Jeet Kune Do is the combination of almost all martial arts... Kudos to all of you, I guess after studying various martial arts.. hybrid martial arts... Good one!! ^__^

  • I believe Bruce learned our native martial arts too..Arnis

    hehehe...

di ko makapaniwala na natutunan din pala nya yun

  • great vid-but...

it was "Longstreet" where BL explains JKD.

In Marlow, BL plays Winslow Wong, a badguy, who while fighting James Garner, goes hurtling off a balcony doing a flying side kick.

  • Anyone training in Jeet kun do should not alter to a flashy art because that defeats the purpose of the simple mechanics in jeet kun do, trust me you cant go wrong by increasing your levels in jeet kun do because youll become almost unstoppable speed and power the two out of three most important elements in the arts, the last element is knowing how to strike pressure points effectively. master these three, and youll be very happy when your fighting three or four guys at a time, lol blessings

  • if i did karate, will it help or hinder my jet kun do training?

  • i think you must change your way of thinking, but i don't think it will hinder you in the end

i "switched" from taekwondo to muay thai and there is a difference but after a short period of time you'll get "in the rythmn" (i hope you understand)

your experience, flexibility and tknowledge which you've achieved in karate will help you surely, because your karate knowledge and your jeet kune do knowledge will complete each other

(i hope I'm not being ripped apart because of this post)

  • I have reached a state that i can modify and hack away any useless move in any martial arts i learn.

So just remember these things when u learn karate,is there a more direct method? what are the advantages of this method and how do I improve it?

I just started bjj and I modified half the moves.

  • karate you betta learn lyoto machida shotokan karate

  • ya'll ppl need to chill he's just giving u an idea on what u could do if someone throws a punch at u. this ain't a full blown course on fighting. it's just a single approach to someone throwing a punch. that's all

  • hm... i preffer wing chun....the only difference is that JKD uses flashy movements XD

  • do you have "intercepting" techuniqes like this in wing chun?

  • Yes. The whole intercepting fist philosophy came from Wing Chun, just like the one-inch punch.

Wing Chun doesn't have flashy techniques at all people. And I doubt Wing Chun could be any faster than it already is...

You people shouldn't talk about an system you're not studying in..

  • i thougth it was the other way around .. are u sure check again maybe your looking what u seek in the wrong place ..just a question and please answer if possible what is jkd now in days and is it a stlye of fighting

  • No, it doesn't, Bruce Lee took out a lot of "steps" in Wing Chun techniques, making it faster and more direct. Bruce Lee actually says flashy moves are shit...

  • ya. actually with wing chun u do more lee wanted to get rid of it and do it fast but brutal.

  • Did I miss something? I saw a balding Rasta shadow boxing..<

  • ha ha ha. you were never in a real fight!! u dont go into a fight hoping ur long limbs will do it for u. ha ha ha.

  • that dude has long limbs

  • yea like wtf, his reach is insane, and he knows JKD, everyone facing him will be fucked LOL

  • These guys accommodate each other. The student stops whenn his coach strikes. Alow the student to create his next move with out prompting from the coach. As long as there is no resistance by the opponent, no unpredictability, no moderate to full contact, no real rules, this traditional style of fighting is not real.

  • i understand wut ur saying...but they r tryin to show u...they dont wanna hurt anyone. in reality it will work

  • my teacher knows JKD, this is the shit tbh, you will be surprised...

  • thats a bad motherfucker

  • lol You realize this is for street combat probably, why would you even start comparing other styles? Plus, they probably have way more techniques then this, lol people are stupid these days

  • he kicked the stomach i was always tought to get the ribs or knee cap

  • that would be rephrased as a "style" my friend. Jeet Kune Do is a style no style, but rather a mindset of struggle and mobility to intercept the opponent with all necessary when necessary, described as simply battle and survival of the fittest

  • yop, so if suits you kick to the stomach do it rather then force you to kick to anyware else...

  • that dusnt mean thats all u can attack dude wat evers open he wud nock the wind out of him for a blow to the stomach

  • The point illustrated in this vid is the benefits of using an economical/non-telegraphed offence rather than an uneconomical/telgraphed one is the concept underlying JKD.

  • This punch is pretty damn pathetic. Try this 'intercepting' thing on some experienced boxer or better yet - muay thai practitioner. And BTW: such an approach (striking before enemy can actually hit you) is rather common among many MAs...

  • yea but this isnt the whole art itz only a tiny fraction of it and a boxer or muay thai practioner is nothin next 2 and expert jeet kune do artist

  • I bet you Fedor could beat Bruce Lee in a fight :)

  • yes he could... u wanna kno y?

cuz he's fuckin dead! only like that he can b beaten

    dont b a dumb ass

if u even studied about bruce lee u would kno there isnt any fighter out there that could b as good as him yet

  • Bruce Lee would consider such discussions as irrelevant.

  • @oldboy777 +100000

  • @herson101 cung le???

  • @herson101 i contend that the best martial artists in the world are not in movies, fighting tourneys or public figures,.. the best ever martial artist is always a situational thing anyway,.. to strive for perfection is a base journey never a destination. no one art or martial artist can ever be the greatest even at any single moment in time, thus never can any artist be viewed the best of all time.

  • In jeet kune do martial art , its teach you what you should not do,you can do anything you want but its does not teach what you should do, this video should explain the way what the real jeet kune do explain.A lot of peoples out there learn a bit of jeet kune do stuff and claim themself a jkd expert. They don know enough yet what jkd is all about, its a very deep art as Bruce Lee have study ''TAO'' a very deep meaning which have study in china for more than 1,000 years ago.

  • @herson101 chuck norris XD

  • @herson101 If you even studied about bruce lee you would realize your argument is pointless to begin with.

  • @herson101 What a lame argument

  • @herson101 I definitely do not consider Bruce Lee THE best martial artist, but I will say he was the most influential and headstrong martial artist. He has done a great deal for martial arts both in the movies and modern culture without letting his back injury get in the way.

  • @herson101 There are better fighters but he was skilled. The best fighters aren't teaching karate in america, they are killing people with their hands. Though bruce lee wouldn't very well pick a fight with them or vice versa, they use martail arts to make a living and assassinate, bruce lee wanted to change martial arts.

So really, they aren't conflicting and there are crazy strong people out there, but unless you piss off the wrong person you won't find out.

  • @LightxKira5643 He wasn't assasinated he had some head problem.

  • no way the CAT kills the bear bruce ass rape fedor the door

  • Listen to sifu Woods he makes great points. I think it was LONG STREET and not marlow. Right ?

  • Technology or Technique?

  • pause at 0:47 , looks kinda funny, it´s like an epic fail move for the opponent XD

  • ok?

  • lol so true

  • Bruce is the master !!!

  • of all the videos i have seen of master trying to explain i found this one the most easy to lisent and undertand.

  • or even ku fa mutai

  • DIE FACKER

  • the timing also differs for the very reason you explained

  • this video reminds me of my videos!!1 X

  • i have to agree with this video a lot of the essence of JKD is the stop-hit...brice lee was great at that his sparring partners use to get very frustrate because BL always beat them to the punch

  • I love the teachings of Bruce Lee, I love his philosophy, his approach, It was his logical thinking which made his fighting style superior. Which brings me to the sad fact that i cannot find a legit JKD instructor in my area who's teachings are not diluted or just "concepts" :(

  • I think we all love Bruce Lee. He made fighting a mental sport that showed that there was more to fighting than just throwing punches and kicking. There was also a science to fighting.

  • My teacher lived in Sweden when he became a student of Ted Wong so he had to travel to USA to train with him, now THATS far. If you really want something just go get it.

  • Do not lose heart. Jeet Kune Do is a concept. Understanding the concept is what's important. Once you do that, follow it and walk his path. Learn from everything. Absorb what you need. Reject what you don't. Soon you will think like him. And connect to him. And you will understand that its all there inside of you.

  • albinkuttamath, that's well said.

  • well do the next best thing, im sure you can find an awsome muay thai trainer and get your self some wicked kicks, or find a penjack silat instructer get some of that funky wild style stuff they do, find a judo teacher and get some throws.... ;)

  • I have, I love training, and respect all martial arts. No matter my lack of understanding, I always follow and train hard because i know even if the purpose evades my comprehension, their is always a logical reason why the masters make you practice the things they do. Im currently training in American Kenpo, Judo, Close quarters combat, Extreme martial arts, and brazilian Jui jitsu. I dedicate myself 110% to each martial art which is why im always exausted at the end of my day.

  • WOW you train hard! kudos to you. I wish I could still train like that but I have to go to work and pay bills=)

  • You're right on in terms of explaining Bruce's concept behind "intercepting" and I like how you mention that JKD differs from most other styles/arts/systems -- particularly the traditional eastern arts -- in terms of the emphasis placed on interception. JunFanJimi is correct that Bruce explains this in "Longstreet" (which ran on ABC from September 16, 1971 to August 10, 1972), not in the movie "Marlow." Good clip, Dwight.

  • What utter crud. Alll your saying is actually the langest range weapon to the nearest target. As for Marlow, you've got that wrong too,it was actually an episode of 'Long street' where Bruce explained the intercepting fist to actor Peter Mark Richman. Enough said.

  • *****

  • Very very good. Thanks !
