  • This is a great video

  • Sick!,,

  • love the video really good

  • I was about to make a reffrence to skyrim, but than I took a sense to my brain

  • Gianfranco . you are standing on a solid ground , you going to make it in no time. The play ground is yours go for it

  • Why on earth is a VFX reel in 240P?

    Otherwise, very nice work.

  • had seen this video for some time now and I was impressed by the quality of animation, matte painting and how it was all done, really a great job, congratulations your work is really impressive, I hope someday I can achieve something like this

  • did you create the person and the dragon in this or did you just change the background, colour correct and add the magic fire blast effect, but use someone elses animated person

  • @RelativelyHostile1 Hi, our student created the visual elements of this reel including the dragon, background and effects. The person in the video is a live actor. Thanks!

  • @VancouverFilmSchool REALLY!!!, i thought the person was just really well animated cos it fitted into the scene so well :D fooled me lol

  • How much does the 3D Animation & Visual Effects cost for the full time?

  • @Passion2690 Hi, you can find information on program costs on our website at vfs(dot)com/admissions. Thanks!

  • Sorry, you tracked frame by frame or used a specially software?

    (i'm a italian boy,and my english it's broke =D )

  • gr8 work

  • wait a minute, was that a real lady or a animation?

  • 21st century art love this stuff!!

  • hi can you answer me how many years is the full program for 3d and vfx....?please i need this information

  • @1986avatar Hi, the full time 3D Animation & Visual Effects program is one-year long. Thanks!

  • this is truly art... exceptional work!!!!

  • Does VFS offer masters degrees?

  • @mynamesSpartacus Hi, VFS does not offer any Masters programs. All of our one-year programs will give our grads a diploma in their discipline. Thanks!

  • Obviously a beautiful piece of work. The color of the hand at 0:16 is so much warmer than anything else, though. I see such color mapping errors so often in amateur / semi-professional vfx scenes and it drives me up the wall -- such a simple problem so detracts from and so takes one out of the scene. Why is it so hard?

  • holy shit that was really film-like! do you do thigs for movies?

  • do you teach nuke for the compositing? or do you teach fusion?

  • @ShOreS91 Hi, we teach Nuke for compositing. Thanks!

  • Clones /watch?v=f5io2EPIcJg

  • @TRE1275

Before you talk, make sure you have skill.

Otherwise, your comments don't mean shit.

    KAI-DAN sucks

    GREY sucks

  • yeah...magic doesnt work against dragons....

  • @thorna100 im sorry but no... Its the featured tool in AAE CS5

  • please tell me how you paste the person out of the shot, just name the process someone i can research it myself. Its driving me crazy that they didnt use a greenscreen yet they cut the person out

  • @thorna100 it is probably the rotobrush tool featured in After Effects CS5, correct me if im wrong anyone

  • @xXGoodWaterXx Is there that tool in Premiere pro i assume not :(

  • @xXGoodWaterXx It cannot be rotobrush, look at the date of this video

  • @bouchandre haha youre correct, thatn it must have been simply rotoscoping, which can be done with any AAE

  • @thorna100 if they used the program Nuke, they most likely luma keyed it out. There is also the chance of some rotoing. But I can't really tell the software they use because of the quality of the video. Hope this helps.

  • Hi, How do you get rid of the stuff around the shot that you dont want from your live takes. I see you have ke[pt teh actor and the bit of rock he is stansding on how did you do that and get rid of the wrest. You should post tutorials. Please tell me :)

  • @thorna100 Most of the time it's a processes called rotoscoping. It takes forever and is very tedious, but yields high end results. You would use an effects program, like after effects to this. If you want to learn more about effects, you should check out video copilot . net

(remove the spaces). have fun, Google is your friend.

  • @thorna100 overcast sky means you can easily extract a luma matte from it. Also, you can do some roto.

  • Particle Ilusion VFX

  • Dear VFS can i know what are the requirements needed to join VFX course in your school please reply me...

  • @ramkamal160 Hi! You can find all the information about program requirements on our website at vfs(dot)com/requirements. Thanks!

  • great job, just one thing, why did you render this in such a low quality, it sorta ruins the effects

  • masterpiece

  • please anyone

what is the name of this song?

  • Its probably one of the best I have seen from vfs... gorgeous work.

  • this is soooo amazing!!

  • what cameras do ya'll use to get the shots?

  • Damn.. I believe VFS is a really good school for animation because every reel of VFS i have ever seen is always amazing.. :-\

  • Great job.

  • Holy crap, I've never thought that Maya can be so awesooome!

  • experience is all you need and the love of dong it....this could have been achieved in many programs the artist has his/her choice

  • Nice.

  • wow superb vfx

  • what is the best.. nuke, fusion or flame ?

  • What program did you juse

    plz answere

    love the vid

  • @concorde123100 If you watch through the credits at the end of the piece Gianfranco lists the software that he used in his reel. It is a little hard to make out some of the logos but you can see that two of the primary programs that were used are Maya and XSI. Thanks!

  • @VancouverFilmSchool a question, can you by ore download the program

    if you can were?.

  • @concorde123100 There are commercially available versions of the programs that our students use out there. You're best bet is to search online and see where they are sold near you. Thanks!

  • @concorde123100

    the program is .

oh i have to go now but i will tell you later.

    take care

  • @aristotle1900 I can wait :)

  • LOTR haha very nice \o/

  • I dont understand why 23 ppl didn't like this?

  • The first 30 seconds were better than Dragon Ball Evolution.

  • Det är ju som Harry Potter fast på riktigt!! :O

  • i was watching all the other VFS films...and this is the best one ive seen...how much is it to go there...im a junior in highschool and i wnna go to vfs

  • @bhermoth The cost of VFS programs varies depending on what you are interested in studying. Your best bet would be to contact one of our Admission Advisors at vfs(dot)com/startnow. They can provide you with details on tuition and other financial options. Thanks!

  • @VancouverFilmSchool yeah i want to be in 3d animations and visual effects i want to go but do you need to have experience for that kind of program...

  • @bhermoth The experience of incoming students varies greatly. Some have experience with 3D, others have prior art training, and some students enter the program with very little experience (many of those benefit from taking Foundation Visual Art & Design first to get the fundamentals down). With hard work and passion for what you are doing, everyone learns what they need within the program itself. You can find the admission requirements at vfs(dot)com/requirements. Thanks!

  • @VancouverFilmSchool thanks...helped me alot

  • @VancouverFilmSchool - hello , i live in uk . I did level 3 art and design . I really like your school . i almost saw all of yours school animation and other work . Can you please let me know , how much it will be cost to do undergraduate degree. Thanks

  • @tanvir002003 Hi! You can find out information about the tuition for our different programs at vfs(dot)com/admissions. Thanks!

  • I just love this demo reel so much -one of my favorites-, i wish i could study on VFS, too bad i don't have enough money to go right there T_T

  • @grevdis You should consider contacting one of our Admissions Advisors at vfs(dot)com/startnow. They will be able to provide you with some information on financial options that might be helpful.

  • @VancouverFilmSchool ooohhh, it's good to know that, i'll check that; meanwhile, i have to study 1 more year to finish the career i'm already studying (graphic design), once i accomplished that thing, im gonna try to make it there :)

    Thanks for the comment. Greetings.

  • @grevdis Glad we could help. Please let us know if there is any other information we could help you with. Thanks!

  • Awesome!

  • very nice work!

  • For this particular animation, which software were mainly used?

  • @Peaceinlifenowar Check out the credits for all the icons of software used, including Maya. Thanks!

  • cool what software did you use ?? Latest or older ones ??

  • @williamstn92 Our students primarily use Maya and/or XSI, along with Zbrush, Renderman, and others, depending on what they need to accomplish. We are constantly upgrading technologies to ensure that students have the latest versions being used within industry. Thanks!

  • That's amazing. This is what I want to do if I can't get into game design.

  • nicely done.. Love what you did here...

  • very good

  • @gunblade64 As with most things in life, quality comes at a price. At VFS, you will receive a quality education delivered by established, award-winning professional faculty; access to 24/7 facilities; opportunities to network and build professional contacts; as well as leaving with an impressive reel /portfolio!

  • @gunblade64 Our one-year educational model also benefits you financially - you are also getting what most universities and colleges offer in 3-4 years compressed into one intensive year, which leaves you industry-ready by the time you graduate. So, by studying only for one year, you avoid 3-4 years worth of fees, and you only have to support yourself financially (rent, food, etc) for one year too.

  • @gunblade64 We would definitely recommend you speak to one of our Admissions Advisors to discuss the financial options available to you. Fill in the form at vfs(dot)com/startnow

  • That first comp was really great. 2 Thumbs up, great work all around.

  • Bravo!

Some of the best novice Afteraffects I've seen!

I'm truly interested in this school....

  • Awesome stuff, I can't believe you didn't green screen the actor, ugh so time consuming, but great stuff!! Good job on the modeling of the dragon as well!

  • @derf0007

Actually, since there isn't that much movement so the rotoscoping/keying on this shouldn't have been that hard. It's actually clever as the actors was lit realistically, they just needed to match the environment and color saturation... :)

  • @RicardoMusch and when the sky is blown out / overexposed, it's easy to seperate the subject from the background

  • @bouchandre

    True :)

  • Thought that guy was 3D.

  • @hehedk9 Gianfranco used Maya, Softimage XSI, Boujou Three, Photoshop, After Effects, and Premiere in the creation of this demo reel.

  • @VancouverFilmSchool was most of the special effects done in after effects?

  • @PhoenixFireFx After Effects was used along with Maya, Softimage XSI, Boujou Three, Photoshop, and Premiere to create the piece. For more information on what students learn during their time at VFS, check out vfs(dot)com/3D.

  • @SuryanshuRai,

You are kind of an asshole toward talented people. I see you keep posting negative comment toward talented people. You are probably a stupid kid with no talent who don't know anything about cg.

  • Nice job..very good...looks like Lord of the ring atmosphere...congrats!

  • so kool....

  • any major tutorial on this?

  • Yeah, college.

  • great work

  • did they make the soundtrack by themself??

  • Fantastic!! Looks like Vancouver is leaps and bounds above other Canadian cities in the digital arts areas.

BCIT and VFS are producing amazing, competent artists.. All to be seen very soon at theaters near you!

  • Vancouver is the cream on Top of the cofee

  • I don't have much more to add than anyone else, but hey, I live in Alaska, and that is some awesome Sh*t!!!

  • Fantastic!

  • lol..man this thing should come out on screens..

  • they should really make a full length movie with all this insane stuff in it. if you made one i would be the firsto one to buy or watch it

  • Why a Dragon have to put his chest to receive a deadly light of ball? Mmm...It's not Better to dodge than stop?

  • heragh: the dragon was trying to stop his forward motion by going vertical and flapping to reverse his direction ^^ Hope that helps some

  • Nop, if a foot ball is going straight to you, would you stop and stay or avoid it?

Every action have a reason. and this one have no sense to me, unless his chest were an armor. Or have a powerfull resistance to fireballs. :P

  • it depends on your reason for doing so, for example if you were in a football game, as a keeper/player you would try and stop the ball as you dont want to lose the game, in this case the dragon could've been trying to absorb the power of the fireball and send it back at the caster
