The criticism that makes most sense to me is the rumors that foreign Olympic athletes didn't get to use Vancouver's venues for training as much as they wanted to. The nature of winter sports just tells me that more familularity with the ice/slopes/track is an unfair advantage. It's probably wrong for any host nation to do that, and if and when my country gets the Winter Olympics again, I hope they let all athletes use the venues as much as they want (within reason, of course).

People shouldn't minimize great accomplishments. Canada won 14 gold medals (setting a new record) and won the men and women hockey finals, something that is especially important to Canadians. It was an awesome acheivement. (In men's hockey, they came back after a defeat and beat the country that had beaten them.) Again, extra awesome.

The criticism that makes most sense to me is the rumors that foreign Olympic athletes didn't get to use Vancouver's venues for training as much as they wanted to. The nature of winter sports just tells me that more familularity with the ice/slopes/track is an unfair advantage. It's probably wrong for any host nation to do that, and if and when my country gets the Winter Olympics again, I hope they let all athletes use the venues as much as they want (within reason, of course).

People shouldn't minimize great accomplishments. Canada won 14 gold medals (setting a new record) and won the men and women hockey finals, something that is especially important to Canadians. It was an awesome acheivement. (In men's hockey, they came back after a defeat and beat the country that had beaten them.) Again, extra awesome.

Now you are blowing smoke out your ass. Our military is very well supported by our society, although poorly equipped is probably an understatment. In Military circles it is widely accepted that Canadians are the best trained soldiers in the Western hemisphere.
Oh and we have hockey and healthcare......what do you have?

I would like to point out Canada did exceptional we won the most gold, and third most in medals and we have a considerably smaller population? so with more people I would hope you would have more medals...but the most gold is more important than most medals there buddy. Who cares if you have 40 bronze medals (I know you didn't have this- it's an exaggeration and I am explaining this to you because you are an American and one in five Americans think the sun revolves around the Earth)

nomosocialists your an asshole haha. We all know we are in a bit of rut at the summer olympics and thanks for kicking us in the balls there. Many countries have had ruts at the summer olympics in 96 the UK had a paultry 15 medals 1 gold and placed 36th place overall. In 2008 they received 47 medals including 19 gold and were 4th. Australia had similar problems too being a no show during the 70's and 80's now there a force to be reckoned with.

And you spend more cash than most. Own the podium spent $117 million on your olympic athletes. Almost twice what we spent on both summer and winter. Add into that complaints of not allowing competitors access to facilities and other not so canuckistani nice type of actions. Plus the dead guy who probably did not get enough practice time. You won a lot of Gold (5 in speed skating LOL) but I think overall it was not the rousing success you seem to think.

Define Success, own the podium is just a slogan to give our athletes an extra boost since we were sick and tired of getting 5th and 6th, were we suppose to dominate these games? Our first week was Lousy and i could name 10 athletes that should of Or had the medal in their hands but faultered, those are the breaks, no amount of funding would of changed that. But then week 2 came and we started kicking ass. We came into these games expecting 30 medals and we got 26 Big deal.

In salt lake you didnt get the most medals or gold and we beat you in both mens and womens hockey did you think your games were successful? We went from 0 gold to 14, our national anthem played more then anybody's, we won both gold in hockey, and had set a record for winning the most medals ever in Canuckistan, are we crying in our toques? you Americans seem to have the biggest problem with this.

As for the Georgian luger, accidents and deaths have happen before and will happen again its tragic but its a dangerous sport doesnt matter how long you practice. nomosocialists, our athletes don't get any money other then the funding they get from the federal government. We don't have huge, rich companies sponsoring our athletes like you do, so in reality, you always spend way more money on your athletes then we ever could.

I honestly do not believe that the USA can take over Canada, even if it has one of the strongest militaries. Canada is very well respected worldwide, where no offense, the United States has enemies, and many high power countries would help Canada and besides in past wars Canada created some of the best war tactics for instance mouse holing I think it was called that? In the battle of Ortona, the aboriginals terrified Americans in Detroit etc. Either way this is just my opinion.
