And if you think that the words "birth" and "berth" are only clever word plays that someone is making up then you are not using reason. If there were harsher penalties for causing accidents, people would drive safer and there would be less of them. For example, let's say you hit a car and cause 5000 worth of damage, by court order you will be mandated to pay that damage or face incarceration. There wouldn't be nearly as many accidents. What if both parties are responsible, as is usually the case? Here's what I suggest you do. When your car gets a bit old, take it to a bad neighborhood and leave the keays in it....or don't leave the keys in it. Either way, report it stolen. It won't be a lie. You'll get paid.

Ok here's a suggestion, if you cause an accident, your license is automatically suspended for no less than 6 months and you have to take remedial driving courses at your own expense. This would reduce the number of accidents. If both parties are involved then they have to pay for each other's damage, only the party not at fault does not have to pay anything. Or maybe if someone has a better driving record for a period of time, they aren't required to have insurance.

Maybe they could have some kind of rebate for going x number of years without an accident. Although they make tons of money, most of it is from investing, not from premiums. They also pay out billions of dollars a year in claims. I pay homeowners insurance too, and I have not had a claim, but statistically I will need to one day.
