@geguish we could if we wanted to. We've had many offers for new-tech stuff but were unable to obtain them due to low funding(thanks to corruption) and poor decisions. Israel offered to train our troops and support us in efforts to rid the Abu-Sayaf and NPA from our lands. We declined in fear of country-wide panic among the muslim communities. If we had taken that offer, we'd be getting equipment and training from the hardest trained fighting force in the world.

@Tobas we don't really need tanks right now because of our terrain and the major threat to our security is not an external foe but internal insurrection thus you cannot fight a guerrilla war medium tanks, also Heavy tanks won't run in the Philippines for the terrain is mainly swampy and mountainous.
Just like what happened in the Korean War wherein heavy tanks where not used because of the limited Terrain. Same goes to the Philippines, though we are lacking Medium Tanks ATM.

@tobascocat1 philippine army men has been sent to other parts of the world, mainly supporting US. it's around just read about it, we were involved in the korean war, vietnam war, persian gulf war, gulf war and iraq war. we also have UN peacekeepers involved with UN activities.
@xXw4l4b2Xx I know about the involvement in the wars except for the Gulf wars and Iraq war. I know of the involvement with the UN but leaving Afghanistan because of kidnapped threats was frowned upon with the other nations. That started the Taliban kidnapping other people for awhile.

@tobascocat1 It's not that easy removing corruption you know, haven't you heard about the anti government movements way back? All the riots and all that? Filipino's have been trying it with their ways with riots etc.. Government corruptions exists within all countries, it's just that the ones who get elected mostly goes corrupt again and again. As far as military power in the surrounding region, its pretty much dead last. Countries like Malaysia, Vietnam and China has surpassed the Philippines in military and economic strength. Yes, your country has people building skyscrapers and you have many of name brand stores but make no illusion that your country is not the pearl of the orient that it once was.
There has to be a new way of thinking in the general population. It seems that everyone wants to get rich fast and do whatever it means to get more money. Look at Mexico, they are known to be as corrupt like the Philippines. All that I am saying is that if you want to get out of the hole you are in, it has to be on the national level where people have to think differently and deal with the rampant corruption. Your country is mostly Catholic but quick to turn a blind eye to corruption.

The Philippine military does receive training from the US and perhaps from other nations as well. It's your corrupt government officials that ruin the reputation of your military. They are unheard of outside your country unfortunately.
@lirio081175 The US thought at a country like Canada won't make a significant impact with only 2500 soldiers in Afghanistan. They now know that Canada did make a significant impact with so little soldiers. The same went for the Dutch military. The policies of these few soldiers are now adopted in the US military in Afghanistan.
If the Philippines has a great military, show it on the international stage more often. Let the world know that you have a great soldiers too.
@lirio081175 If you do come out on the international stage, you can borrow equipment from other countries and learn the latest technologies. It has helped Poland, South Korea and other countries that cannot afford the latest technologies.

Even a small sovereign state like Singapore can beat us. When it comes to comventional warfare, the AFP is incapable in neutralizing any foreign aggression. @Tobas we don't really need tanks right now because of our terrain and the major threat to our security is not an external foe but internal insurrection thus you cannot fight a guerrilla war medium tanks, also Heavy tanks won't run in the Philippines for the terrain is mainly swampy and mountainous.
Just like what happened in the Korean War wherein heavy tanks where not used because of the limited Terrain. Same goes to the Philippines, though we are lacking Medium Tanks ATM.

Filipino's have been trying it with their ways with riots etc.. Government corruptions exists within all countries, it's just that the ones who get elected mostly goes corrupt again and again. It's the way people think and do, you can't control it even if you wanted to. Alot of officials have already been removed with the case of corruption.

There has to be a new way of thinking in the general population. It seems that everyone wants to get rich fast and do whatever it means to get more money. Look at Mexico, they are known to be as corrupt like the Philippines. All that I am saying is that if you want to get out of the hole you are in, it has to be on the national level where people have to think differently and deal with the rampant corruption. Your country is mostly Catholic but quick to turn a blind eye to corruption.

They now know that Canada did make a significant impact with so little soldiers. The same went for the Dutch military. The policies of these few soldiers are now adopted in the US military in Afghanistan.
If the Philippines has a great military, show it on the international stage more often. Let the world know that you have a great soldiers too.

If the AFP will go to war right now with any foreign military power, we will definitely loose. China can invade us easily right now if they want to. Even a small sovereign state like Singapore can beat us. When it comes to comventional warfare, the AFP is incapable in neutralizing any foreign aggression. The only thing that hinders foreign powers from occupying us, is the mutual defense treaty we have with the U.S. Our leaders know this, and yet they are careless to do something about it.

Hirap kasi bago maka bili ng mga bagong armas ang pulis at lalo na ang military ntn. Napakarami munang lalagayan sa military at sa gobyerno. Sa pag kain na lang. Ninanakaw pa nila ang budget ng military ntn sa pag kain. kaya ang mga mlitary ntn madalas magutom sa gyera. Isang lingo sa bundok,tapos sardinas lang ang pag kain nila. Bibilidapat ng 100 m16 A2.Kaso sa dami ng lagayan sa loob. Ang nabili na lang ay 45 unit of M16.

Nasa PHASE - I pa lang tayo ng AFP Modernizationw which includes internal security and training muna... PHASE 2 will start at Late 2010 to 2012 which is the "real" modernization.. AFP will acquire new armaments and weapons in this period... MAGRESEARCH muna kayo bago kayo dada ng dada!

@jehril Tama pare phase 1 para sa internal security threat, by late 2010 mag sisimula ang phase 2 para naman sa territorial defence!

@jehril alam ang bobo mo tlaga...matagal na yan modernizationplan na yan ng AFP pahahon pa ni FVR yan..naibenta na nga ang ilang part ng Fort bnifacio para daw dyan mapunta ang funds..eh nasan na binulsa na nila at mga tiwaling oficer ng AFP..na hanggan sa ngayon ay nakapwesto pa at na promote pa sa rank nila..ngayonilang prsidente na ba dumaan..at sasabihin mo na may Phase o phase2 pa!!! oo meron phase sa pagnanakaw uli na para sana pambili ng miltary equiptment...at wag mona asahan pa yan..

@jehril ungas bakit ako magreresearch at ikaw kahit magresearch ka at masira na kukute mo ay wala pa rin kahinatnan yan..puro theory lang yan at matuto ka sana humarap sa realidad...mag jakol ka na lang bago mo ko pagtawanan,.... eh hinde ka ata marunong kumantot eh...sungaw...

@jehril how can you talk about AFP Modernization when its 2011 annual budget has not increased dramatically. It's 2011 annual budget is only $1.7 billion compare to 2010 of $1.4 billion. Can you explain that? $1.7 billion budget is pathetic; it is only enough to maintain the current system. This AFP modernization has been going on since the Ramos administration. All these morons talking about AFP acquiring F16. What a stupid pinoys.
