A child is defined as "a person between birth and full growth," and since this is a valedictorian speech, one can safely assume that puberty had reached its fruition, so he is not a child. With that said, the state of his humour is irrelevant. Childish or mature, I don't really see anything particularly wrong with what he said. As somebody who just graduated from university recently, I applaud Brandon for his sense of humor, his excellent creativity, and his realism. Most graduation speeches fit the mold of talking about life's transitions, learning more stuff, blah blah blah. Who seriously remembers their high school graduation speech? That was some pretty funny stuff - made my life kinda hell though cause when I did my Valedictorian speech in Victoria later that year they monitored/censored the hell out of it.

Ok so it appears my first point was not posted. Those who are using the charter limitation clause in s.1 need to read into the charter more. The limitations are only for the pourpose of upholding the law (RIDE programs). With reference to speech, limitation only applies if it is used to incite violence, thus why jihadist videos are not shown in Canada. from what i got out of it that was kind of the point of the speech. He made a speech unconstrained by orthodoxy and step past the line of Political Correctness. He wasnt trying to win, he made the speech for the students of Belmont it wasnt for anything else. As somebody who just graduated from university recently, I applaud Brandon for his sense of humor, his excellent creativity, and his realism. Most graduation speeches fit the mold of talking about life's transitions, learning more stuff, blah blah blah. Who seriously remembers their high school graduation speech? I definitely don't because ours was boring as heck. Even our college graduation speech was boring.
This guy took the graduation speech for what it really was: totally pointless.

you're still completely missing my point. the thing is, it really has nothing to do with what the speech represents. For example, i could whip out my dick and start beatin off on stage, god knows that would be unique. But yet, it really doesn't tie in with graduation, validictorian, or (even in his case) anything to do with school of any fuckin sort!

That was some pretty funny stuff - made my life kinda hell though cause when I did my Valedictorian speech in Victoria later that year they monitored/censored the hell out of it.
I definitely agree that it wasn't anti-semitic, he goes out of his way to call that a stupid stereotype - People way over reacted and that cost Belmont what might have been one memorable Valedictory.

Ok so it appears my first point was not posted. Those who are using the charter limitation clause in s.1 need to read into the charter more. The limitations are only for the pourpose of upholding the law (RIDE programs). With reference to speech, limitation only applies if it is used to incite violence, thus why jihadist videos are not shown in Canada. For those select few who were offended, grow a thicker skin. people who say we are desenitised need to wake up. If anything we're oversensitive.

Second point, people need to learn the diffrence between a joke and genuine bigotry. what Brandon was saying, was clearly a joke because it was so over the top. It's when the person saying these things is clearly and obviously not joking that issue must be taken. If the school had/has an issue with this video, why not petition youtube to remove it instead of threatening students with suspensions? It is disgusting how limited the right to free speech truly is.

from what i got out of it that was kind of the point of the speech. He made a speech unconstrained by orthodoxy and step past the line of Political Correctness. He wasnt trying to win, he made the speech for the students of Belmont it wasnt for anything else. Not an ego boosting speech(like most of them are) it was for pure entertainment and something the class of 08 will always remember(hopefully). Speeches like this make high school enjoyable.
