  • thank you for this video! I just made my first zenni optical purchase and chose the no-added-cost 1.57 lenses, and IMMEDIATELY 2nd guessed myself. this video really reassured me that I made the right choice. (my prescription is "just" -4.75/-5).

  • i went to eyebuydirect, and it would not let me choose anything other than the 1.74! my perscription is only a little worse than yours, -8.5 in one and -8.25 in the other. how were you able to get the cheaper lenses? there is such a huge price difference and i only need another pair for backup, so i dont want to have to spend a fortune

  • do you have an old pair that you would donate for a great cause

  • I'D JUST LIKE TO SAY THAT I HOPE YOU REALIZE THAT POLYCARBONATE 1.67 HIGH INDEX IS NOT CORRECT. POLYCARBONATE ONLY COMES IN A 1.53 INDEX. POLY IS CONSIDERED A MID INDEX. AND INDEX 1.60 AND OVER IS CONSIDERED HIGH INDEX. THE INDEX IS THE SPEED AT WHICH LIGHT TRAVELS THROUGH THE LENS. THERE ARE VARIOUS OTHER THINGS THAT DETERMINE THE THICKNESS OF YOU LENS LIKE BASE CURVE AND BLANK SIZE SO PLEASE DO NOT GIVE OTHERS ADVICE ON THICKNESS OF LENSES WHEN CONSIDERING INDEX OF REFRACTION. BAD INFORMATION!

  • great video, very informative, really helped me in figuring out where to order glasses online from!

  • Hello brazenspider. I had a question, and you look like a girl who would know the answer! I used an online lens thickness calculator, and for me my thickness was 2mm in middle and 3.7 on the edges. This is with standard cr39 lenses. Would you recommend paying for higher index, or will this look thin? 2nd question is what is your lens thickness on those glasses? thanks!

  • @terradactylclaw Hi! I just checked my blue bubbles glasses (1.67 high index lenses, 51-18-142 - 132mm width) and at the widest those lenses seem to be 5mm on the edges. What type of frames are you planning on getting? If you get plastic frames then the lenses will be less noticeable. In the video you can see how much the 5mm bubble lenses stick out past the frames. If you want metal frames definitely get the higher index lenses. My other glasses are in another location. Hope that helps!

  • @brazenspider I would probably be getting black plastic frames. So hopefully it won't be very noticeable! Thanks.

  • If anyone else has suffered at the hands of Goggles4u please write to me. I am currently taking them to court.

  • I have had 12 weeks of total misery with these people. If the foreign people could even speak correct english when I call to complain it would help.

I am about £100:00 plus out of pocket and miraculously NO ONE is available to speak with direct. It all goes through submission forms.

DO NOT, and I really stress here, do NOT part with money to these people. There MANY many glasses manufacturers on the web that are superb but this one is a scam Believe me.

    I am furious.

  • REFUSING TO REFUND GOGGLES4U com

They took from me a total of $66:50 and $48:30.

I ordered GLASS lenses and PHOTOCHROMIC lenses in one pair of glasses.

Over the period of twelve weeks and they asking for an additional $45:00 they then started saying they could NOT make the lenses in glass, would not and then said they didnt have the stock and then said it was impossible.

They then couldnt do photochromic either.

    Now they have refunded $2.

    14 weeks later, NO REFUND.

  • Steve from goggles4u (this isn't a joke) :

"We highly regret to hear that you are not satisfied with the received glasses. However your order has been processed with 1.56 middle index plastic lenses as it is also mentioned at the lens page that "If Anti-Reflective coating is not available in glass, we will use high quality plastic lens". Now we require you to send us few pictures of your glasses."

He wants pictures to show I got plastic, yet he says he sent me plastic..

  • You know you can upload your face picture and try on glasses to see what they look like before buying I have been happy with all of them that I have bought. I would like to know when do they have specials?

  • You know you can upload your face picture and try on glasses to see what they look like before buying I have been happy with all of them that I have bought.

  • it's easy to avoid distortion b/c all these places publish the frame width... I always stick to 130mm or below

are you sure your goggles4u lenses are 1.71 glass as opposed to plastic? I've only

seen glass offered at 1.8 or 1.9 & they are much denser so are as heavy if not heavier than plastic...

Just got my 1st pair from zenni 1.74 high index plastics... the frame is kinda cheap but definitely worth the price break from retail bricks & mortar shops.

  • @reddirtg

I bought "mineral glass" for all 3 pairs, and they all came as plastic... so yeah... They're lying....

  • Lenses: - 1.56 Mineral Glass with Coatings is what my receipt says for this recent pair..

I'm doing tests with the lenses from my older pair i got from them about 2 years ago. When i drop them on the floor, they sound like plastic (and don't shatter or ping. they clunk), then I started biting on the edge of the lens. Does glass bite off like resin? :P

  • no swagg

  • Pablot138 - I'm not sure. I ordered the 1.74 lenses in frames that were too wide. I know that frames that are too wide shrink my face. I'd have to have the 1.74 and 1.67 lenses in similar size frames to be able to say. I'm not sure if the higher index lens distorts more or not. Sorry!

  • Thank you for posting this...so helpful...

I have a pretty bad eyesight. I forgot the exact figures, but I've always been frustrated with the "side of the face shrinking." it is very unappealing...

So i guess my question is: how does the 1.67 and 1.74 compare in terms of fixing the shrinking problem? Do u feel there is a noticeable difference?? Thanks again

  • thanks for the video review. last two pairs look good on you. i think go with the most narrow lens you feel comfortable with, especially with strong rx. smaller glass makes it lighter. money you spend at local places is close to the cost of laser eye surgery.

  • I ordered from eyebuydirect $20 frame + "free" lenses, including scratch-resistant coating (poly lens?), anti-glare coating. Matte plastic frame arrived scratched and crooked. I straightened it, will remove scratches rather than ship it back and deal with this company again. Compared to local places the glass does not have a clean quality cut around the edge. It's tolerable though. Their frames are 99-cent store quality. They only look good in pictures. The styles are ridiculous. Beware.

  • I use these lenses to check my refractive status, in conjuction with a Snellen chart from i-see -- for free. Very valuable for me to be able to order simple spherical (minus and plus lenses) on the Internet from Zennioptical.

  • Your video was most helpful. Thanks for taking the time to review and share your findings!

  • Have you tried 39dollarglasses? They offer polycarbonate as the standard lens and offer up to a 1.67 index Seiko as an option. I've bought 2 pair from them and they are great. Give them a try.

  • Thank you so much for your thoughtful review, I have been considering the high index lenses from Zenni optical (they now offer 1.74 high index lenses). I was wondering whether or not they would be worth the price but I think you've sold me on them. My prescription is -7.00 in the left and -7.25 in the right so I'm super excited to finally get some affordable glasses that don't weight a million pounds on my face! Thanks, doll!

  • Thanks for a fantastic review. Immensely helpful! The first pair is the best. I wonder if you had any problem returning the ones that didn't suit you.

  • Thanks for the review! I am going to go with Zenni Optical. I thought my prescription was pretty bad (+3 and +3.75) so I was wondering how 1.57 mid index lenses would be with a metal frame. But I guess if the lenses weren't too bad with your prescription in a plastic frame then they should be ok with mine. Thanks for posting this!

  • Very Informative... Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Thanks for posting this! :)

  • Thanks

  • I think the glasses at 6.52 and 8.10 are the best choice. Very useful explanations!

  • soo interesting ... thanks!

  • Very nice review. Sure to help anyone looking to buy online glasses. Just two suggestions; you should give the frame names or numbers and spend a few seconds holding each frame close to the camera. Thanks for sharing.

  • thank you very much..very helpful

  • I meant to mention this in my video, but my prescription is -8 in my left eye and -8.25 in my right eye. That's what I referred to when I called my prescription "bad."

  • my eyes are worse than yours. My eyes are -10.25 and -11

  • @brazenspider holy.crap.

Do they call you a bat?

  • @brazenspider

Wow, my eyes are -5.25 .... and I thought I was bad. -8 must be close to being considered legally blind.

  • @jessie74 You think -8 is bad? I'm -15 in both eyes.

  • what is your prescription (minus numbers) I want to compare mine to yours to see what i will be getting, regarding thickness. Thx
