Thats the system that exists in many/most European countries. There is a certain balance between the haves and the not-haves. I am for solidarity to a certain extent as long as it is not accompanied by exploitation of the "strong" by the "weak" or better "idle". While the free and social market economy has its merits, in particular after the WW2, I think it is shifting towards a socialistic scale. Too many abuse the welfare system. Too much bureaucracy develops.
Although I am the biggest anti-communist, my opinion that the distribution of land could be justified in Latin American countries, since the property rights in land were not earned by merit, but by a historical incident, i.e. the conquest of SA by the Spaniards. What do you think of that?

The Soviets were officially atheists and did persecute religion but the Nazis would have you killed based on dissenting views. I slightly agree.. However, I think the USSR was fundamentally still a workers' state, albeit degenerated, between capitalism and socialism. If it weren't isolated and so backward to begin with the course of history would have been totally different.

Thats the system that exists in many/most European countries. There is a certain balance between the haves and the not-haves. I am for solidarity to a certain extent as long as it is not accompanied by exploitation of the "strong" by the "weak" or better "idle". While the free and social market economy has its merits, in particular after the WW2, I think it is shifting towards a socialistic scale. Too many abuse the welfare system. Too much bureaucracy develops.

Also you could have wealth and enjoy your sucess with excellent health care. The Soviets were officially atheists and did persecute religion but the Nazis would have you killed based on dissenting views. Stalin was a madman, yes, and may have been worse than Hitler, but Communism itself is not *always* worse than fascism. Fascism is an ideology meant to kill.

Did the workers' soviets have any power? Were the workers in control of the means of production? Did the workers have freedom of speech, the press, assembly, etc.? Freedom for 1 party, even a majority party, is no freedom. Freedom is for dissenters.
I do agree that if Russia hadn't been 300 years behind the rest of Europe, it might have turned out differently. I don't agree that the USSR was ever a real workers' state.

Because the Soviet Union was surrounded by hostile capitalist countries, and that it had to devote a majority of its resources on wars for the majority of its existence, the workers' state deformed, and a certain layer within the party became a bureaucratic caste, though not a class, that was reflected in the stalinist regime. The stalinist bureaucrats reverted the socialist property relations, and eventually dissolved the soviet state itself in 1991. From 1917-1924 it was genuine.

It is possible to have a state and freedom. Not complete freedom but most freedom. Total freedom can only come without states or classes, that's true. But to disregard the possibility of building freedom under the socialist state is to disregard the purpose of the socialist state. Socialism cannot be a repetition of the stupidities of capitalism, it must provide freedom beyond the scope of capitalism.

N Korea is based on all the ingredients that came from Marx, or perhaps was based on those. It is logical and a direct consequence that N Korea comes out of Marx. This is clear in theory and practice. The USSR, China under Mao, Eastern Bloc, Cambodia were not one bit different to what is today N Korea.

Communism is the most free system there is where people are guaranteed equal rights and free access to articles of consumption as long as they benefit society which makes perfect sense, because why should you benefit from society if you don't contribute to it?
