You can get heavy distortion. The Deep Purple way (three different amp simulators) or a distorted leslie amp. And there are only keyboard instruments in the Nord Stage 88. No guitars and no way to add them.
@7Umudo7 We've tried playing synth/organ sounds via a Marshall JCM-800 guitar amp. Have to admit, it sounds pretty awesome.. only concern is how will the amp take it. Hasn't been any problems so far. :) I guess you could use any amp/effect that creates/simulates a tube distortion to try get that deep purple sound.
Is it a virtual analogue?

Synth (FM, Analog & Digital waves), with alot of knobs to modify the sound !

I don't have Nord Stage yet, but I can say to you the NS doesn't have guitar sounds etc... You just have to download them on the website.
If you want to add alot of sounds on your NS, the EX is a good way (it gets good internal memory)
