  • what about movt 3 ?

  • It's so beautiful x_x

  • so brilliant, passionate and moving, gives me chills!

  • This + calculus homework + leftover halloween candy = :D

  • lelelezebe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • One of the most passionate and beautiful pieces in the world. I love the way he pours his soul into the music, although the moving around is a bit distracting, but I'm not complaining. I'm learning this for my exam. So beautiful. :)

  • @FeliciaMirage He's not so distracting in person since the camera isn't trying to keep up with his movement. I thought I would have to just close my eyes and listen, but I actually enjoyed watching him move into the music.

  • Beautiful: Spirit of the Violin in complete tune with the Player and what a genious. He makes the piece sing like an Angel with such love as if it talks to you. And i love this concerto. He is completely in touch with the peice as if it's taking him along on the journey. I love this guy!!

  • WHEN was this? WHERE is this performance? WHAT orchestra is behind him? WHO is the conductor? WHY don't YouTube posters follow a few fundamental journalistic guidelines?!?!?!

  • I feel terribly overshadowed... i'm playing this for my audition next month x__x

  • Ahh........it's like watching the sunlight ;)

  • very nice but why are ther two things like trills. at the start and end? from Me Bell any replies please??

  • let's also give credit to the others that surround him :)

  • Exactly how I'd play it...x

  • aaaahhhh he's my hero! ^_^ I hold him in a high respect as a violinist :)

  • Este hombre es un Dios <3

  • Itzhak Perlman's rendition of Bruch's fantastic Violin Concerto is even more exquisite.

  • Listening to music I can get away from all the bad things that happen in life like racism, bullying, sexism, vulgarity, etc. I am addicted to the medicine of music.

  • One of the most heart-felt pieces played by the most heart-felt player.........

  • One of the most heart-felt pieces played by the most heart-felt player.....

  • Damn..wish I had a violin like that. But I'm too busy paying for college, and soon I'll be paying for a house and a car..

All of a sudden a $10,000 violin doesn't seem too bad lol

  • he doesnt deserve that violin

  • I was lucky enough to "happen" onto a Joshua Bell recording back in 1989 when he & Jean-Yves Thibaudet issued a recording of Fauré, Debussy & Franck. It has since be reissued (2005) with more "mature" artwork- but I remember when I first heard it I couldn't believe such depth coming from a young man that looked like he was 16 (at the time he was actually around 22.) He has always had a prodigious gift for music and this is no exception. I recommend his "Voice of the Violin" as well- very moving!

  • his strad costs 4 million dolars not 18

  • Totally off topic, but...have you seen his beautiful home in NYC? There's a spread in Architectural Digest, May '10 I believe. I'm so happy that people who can create such beauty get paid well sometimes. :-)

  • I was lucky enough, one afternoon , in 1970, to be allowed to play for a few minutes on a Strad, 1702, on loan from Curtis Institute to a fellow musician. I played the Massenet Meditation and it was magical! In the hands of Bell, this great violin, hidden from view for so many years, finally egts to again sing.

  • i have never seen anyone play with that amount of love and soul- like that of joshua bell.

he and his violin and truely one.

thank you for making Bruchs concerto so heart-breaking to hear.

  • which orchestra is he playing with?

  • I see 12 reasons for abortion.

  • he loves his music!

  • Is there a 'repeat automatically' button on Youtube? When this beautiful music stops, my revelry is broken and I screw up my knitting. ha ha...Seriously though, is there a way to have this keep playing w/out having to get back up and push a button and get settled again? (I know--if this is the worst of my problems, I'm doing ok) :-)

  • @stockinettestitch I don't think so..I have the same problem : )

  • @stockinettestitch Put it in a playlist on its own..... and then click autoplay :p

  • @benjalex12 Thanks. I've never done much more on Youtube than type in what I want to hear and click 'play', I'll have to mess around with it and figure some stuff out.

  • Nichtingale!!!

  • Νightingale!!!

  • If any piece of classical music can bring a tear to the eye, this is it!!!!!!

  • Just absolutely gorgeous!!!!!! Very very musical!!! Joshua Bell is definitely top of my list as the most musical musician of today!!!!!!

  • 4:20 onwards omfg.

  • Great music and great performance. Not of this world.

  • what is the name of the violin solo that i have heard joshua play that is usually put to sad ww2 films? i can never remember

  • @shugo541 I think you may be thinking of Shindler's List, the spelling offhand may be wrong, hope it helps though.

  • @cjr2580 yeah i found it about 20 minutes after commenting, thank you

  • he really knows how to bring out the absolute most beautiful sound in a violin!=0 *amazing!!*

  • This piece is what makes my life better.

  • Gyönyörű hegedűtónus, nagyon érzékeny lélekkel! Jó, hogy ilyen szépség létezik a Világon!

  • i'm jealous how he can change bows and make it sound as if he isn't. makes ME JEALOUS I TELL YOU.

  • "Music is my band aid. It heals everything for me" #ihatequotes >Indeed. Bruch and Bell beautifully define it for me... and cure me... even only for a while :)

  • his violin a wing he flies with....somewhere in the 4th dimension...that belongs no more to this time...That's why tears...Tears idle tears...

  • he looks VERY young for someone who's in his 40s O_O

  • Ascoltare questa mosica è più bello che veder volare gli Angeli sopra un prato fiorito con splendidi fiori profumatissimi .

    Incantevole e appassionatissimo.

Meraviglioso Grazie. (Thank you very much ))

  • This piece is really beautiful. :D

  • He gives himself over completely for our listening pleasure which feels very intimate. Absolutely breathtakingly beautiful and so moving!

  • $18 million dollar Stradivarius.....-drops dead- I would kill for 5 seconds on a violin like that

  • I have this song in my mp3 but i don't know who is the composer and what is the song's title.. haha! so dumb of me...

  • haha nice one bro :D

  • 1:46 & 2:03 = rock star violinist.

  • es sorprendente... puedo sentir el amor y la pasión con la que este prestigioso violinista toca el instrumento. realmente me emociona su entrega.

  • One has to wonder how his neck has not been totally destoryed, bent back in that awkward position constantly... beautiful rendition, however

  • It does look a bit uncomfortable, doesn't it?=p

  • @musicalyam i was thinking the same thing at first i thought it was an odd camera angle or something but yeah he still does an incredible job.

  • Thank you for this video. It is beautiful.

  • @darkspear777 lol dude ur right.

  • Move over Isaac Stern. This kid's moving up fast.

  • The kid is 42 years old!

  • This makes me wish I wouldn't have stopped playing...

  • You should start again ^_^ I am planning on starting for the first time in my life, probably next week, and I am 22.

  • it's never too late to start.

it's all about potential, and of course, putting in teh time to actually practice

  • SU VIBRATO ES ESPECIAL

  • estoy de acuerdo 100%

  • Tone of rare beauty and breathtaking virtuosity!

  • How can anyone measure between Hahn, Rabin, Bell, or any of the other 100's of technically gifted soloists? Mark O'Connor may be the most versatile violinist/fiddlers living.

  • just beautiful, almost magical...

    or just magical...

  • Joshua Bell's AMAZING! Someone to definitely look up to for everything musicality wise- pristine!

Hey, I play the piano, not the violin, so there's Joshua Bell's Musicality Extraordinaire for you- the guy's a complete artist in every way.

  • I never get tired of listen to this

  • 6:20-6:29

one of my favorite parts in this movement

    Amazing..

Bell is one of the finest musicians of all time.

  • @johnsonofthunder1 dang man everything is amazing

  • I played this in the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford before I left school. It has so many memories and he plays it so beautifully! Thanks for posting!

  • OH .......so beatiful

  • I was there. Mr.Bell played one piece in that concert, and that was all I can remember that night! Thanks for posting this.

  • try this sometime without showing a bit of emotion...

oh, you can't get past the first 3 notes. Alright then, I'll be sure to seek your advice in the future !!

  • ¡¡¡Bellísima interpretación, gracias por este maravilloso vídeo!!!

  • Absolutely gorgeous. Music like this brings one's mind and heart to what really matters in life.

  • @MusicBeautyLove one of which is not music...

  • watching and hearing Josh Bell is an emotional experience...this is the height not just of music but of human existence....

  • I thought all violin phenoms were the same, but Mr Bell made a believer out of me. I agree that he is a veritable genius on his $18 million Stradivarius. Too hear him live with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on 10/8/09 was incredible. Who cares about how the guys moves when he plays like he's pouring out his soul.

  • @cannedheat300 It is absolutely gorgeous, and I'm trying to model my sound on his. Nevertheless, he *does* make me seasick...

  • This is some of the most beautiful playing I have ever heard. Mr Bell is a Mozart of our time, a veritable genious. I'm going to hear him play this very concerto with the CSO in a few weeks....can hardly wait....what emotion, what shear beauty

  • oh my gawd! in chicago? me too~~~!!!!

  • i probly kicked the snot out of this kid in high school - and look at him now - pretty good i must say

  • It is Amazing!!!

  • Bell is amazing and its wrong to say he is

"exaggerating" his movements. He is feeling the music, which is natural to music players IMO. other than that one word..wow. :)

  • yeah, I don't think that he is exaggerating his emotions on purpose. if he did, he would try to look at lot hotter than that.

  • He is wonderful :)

  • his movements are not exaggurated, theyre absolutely normal

  • no tiene nada de malo que un musico sea tan teatral porke quien toca un instrumento no me dejara mentir que hay veces que necesitas moverte para darle la expresion

  • I wouldn't call it a visual show... Hes just feeling the music, and I think he's earned the right to considering how well he plays... And who cares really, if you really knew anything about music, you would listen rather than stare.

  • Sometimes the classical world misses a serious point of performance that most professional musicians should know: a visual show is just as important as the aural. You have to understand, he is most likely on a stage where the nearest people could be 20 feet away. his movements seem very gentle and probably not overdone from the actual seats.

  • aaaahhhhhh - Lovely!

  • It then it does not even matter that itzahak and Bell over do it with movement because it comes from there heart!

  • esta música de fondo sirve para mis relatos de amor...qué romántica y nostálgica es esta pieza

  • me emociona....!!

  • musicians are suppoused to be theatrical, its how you remember them

  • Simplesmente o melhor!!!!

  • Je vais éteindre lordinateur si non je reste toute la nuit a les écoutait ses merlin lenchanteur avec leurs baguette magique merci pour se nomment fabuleux

  • hahahaha damn it he swets like a pig hahahaha just kidding he plays very good but where is the third mvmnt?

  • I actually really like his movement. It really comes out when he plays, I like this recording a lot.

  • so I like listening to it...can't stand watching it......Bell is TOOOOO theatric.

  • He has a Vengerov syndrom when playing...(just Kidding) he is a fine violinist that cant be denied.

  • I agree about the vengerov thing :)

  • look at his bow changhing at 8:33.just wonderful

  • Thank you, beautiful interpretation. I don't want to compare.. every interpretation unique.

  • I enjoy this concert v much. Thank you for upload.

  • just awesome!

  • joshua bell really isn't one of my favorite violinists, but i like the way he plays the second movement of the bruch concerto. he has great legato style. also, i like the way he plays with such conviction. i met him twice at the autograh sessions after the concert. what he lacks in his quiet and dull personality, he makes up for it in his music. .....just my 2 cents, which might not count for much. :)

  • I hope he doesn't forget to wipe all that sweat off his violin when he's done.

  • Blah. The first note is already sharp!

  • agree. he is out of tune.

  • Do you have perfect pitch or something?

  • it's true, he did start a bit sharp. he corrected it quickly though. watch his hand carefully at the very beginning if you don't believe me. you can see him shift his hand VERY slightly just before he starts his vibrato. you can also hear a distortion in pitch.

  • That does not mean he was out of tune.He did it probably for the beauty of the first note.

  • he started the note sharp and quickly tried to hide it? i'm sorry, that doesn't sound like making anything beautiful. i'm not trying to be one of those stupid people who picks on every mistake, but if you read what i replied to, i just wanted to clarify to the poster i replied to that he was indeed out of tune. anyway, don't worry, i judge a player based on consistency, not on random mistakes.

  • also after another listen through, i've noticed that i get random distortions on my computer. so maybe i'm wrong about the pitch issue, and maybe it's actually just my computer/the recording after all.

  • I am sure it is your computer because it is not out of tune.

  • yes i agree it does seem that there are distortions on the recording

  • No, we just have a sense of tonality and can hear when something is out of tune.

  • Where is the third movement please :'(

  • The way he physically performs is similar to the way Gidon Kremer performs, just that Kremer's mouth remains open the whole time :-D

  • He has a breathing problem

  • really i would agree but he's doin it on purpose i bet he's usin a technique

  • AAAA.051036Z NOV 2008 I only listen to the music and it is very very nice...thank you for posting.......AR.

  • A lot of people hate Joshua Bell for moving to much, but I like so much because he does, If he jumped on and off the stage I would like him that much more.

  • as long he plays with his heart it doesnt erally matter what does careless people say

  • He's certainly very passionate about this movement. Beautifully done. It's hard to believe he was influenced by his studies with Gingold. Gingold was more of a Kriesler type player without the gushing of Bell.

  • Amo este concierto, y sobre todo a la música de este grandísimo compositor alemán Marx Bruch

  • His Vibrato ist made by the wohle arm, not only by the wrist! That's funny, because that's what I do too and I always thought it's a mistake...

  • it is at least three different types of vibato..itzhak perlman is one of the most known violinist who use the wrist vibrato.

  • Isaac Stern used to speak frequently about the failure of violinists to use different types of vibrato for different pieces. He felt that too many string players has one vibrato that they used for everything.

  • My niece Valtie Nunn loves everything by Joshua Bell and I understand why. She played the Bruch at her final concert before going up to Trinity College of Music. I

Joshua is impassioned... he is playing the violin that most passionate and expressive of instruments. Just my 2c worth.

  • shut up. Can you do better? If you hate him so much please stop searching him up to ridicule him.

Leave the listening up to real musicians.

  • jeez why are these comments always put in the wrong spot? Meant for ultili.

  • the Bruch violin concerto is a very dramatic and romantic concerto - listen to the interlude (tutti) parts ... if you do not watch him play, you may change your mind

  • WHERE IS THE THIRD MOVEMENT?!??!?!?

  • LOL!!!

  • Precioso, que maestría, mis respeto.

  • it's a great interpretation I think but just now I listened the Perlman interpretation and I must say that Perlman has a great colored sound that at this part is just wonderful and maybe Joshua Bell could improve his sound to be more powerfull and coloured. All the best

  • where is the 3rd mvmnt?

  • please post the 3rd movement! i'd like to see it O_O

  • Simply Perfect.

  • I'm playing this in a competition next Saturday APRIL 12, 2008. My gosh! Joshua Bell is one of my favorite violinist! He owns this Adagio =)

  • Thanks! =) I'm so nervous because there are really good peple playing adn stuff, But i'll try and give my best to the judges =)

  • how did you do? :]

  • Well I didn't win but I felt like played my best. Many peopel were saying my sound was beautiful and well my main goal was to go ahead and play it with passion and to make the audience moved by my playing. Goal accomplished! ^_^

  • Is he Jewish?

  • yeah, actually. or so says wikipedia.

  • i know i'm commenting a lot, but when i like a vid on yt, i watch it over and over again,,,

just have to say...thanks elfinsafety for uploading this

    thank you so much

  • a violinist who has glistening sweat on his face, to put his whole soul into it...is truly a great violinist~

  • one of my...possibly...my favorite violin piece ever written

    thanks Bruch and Bell!!!!!!!

  • Oh...my....god.

That's all I have to say. He has amazed me once again. I will always appreciate his emotion and his BRILLIANT tone. He honestly has one of the warmest tones ever.

  • oh... my ... god was not all you had to say, because you wrote three lines more

  • I first heard this beautiful piece of music when I was around twelve and now I am 60 and still love it. Joshua does a brilliant rendition of it thanks for this

  • This is so beautiful, I have no words. Thank you for uploading this. Is there any chance of uploading the first and third movement? Althought snippets of this proms-performance have been uploaded before and deleted for copyright reasons in no time. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  • Bell owns this concerto. No one plays it with his urgent interpretation. We heard him play this is Tucson on January 15, 2008. He was really on!
