I often come across comments like "Placebo was way better in the 90's'', ''Placebo don't make good music anymore''. I don't get that. Starting with Sleeping With Ghosts they records get better and better, there's more and more good songs on every new album, they're definitely making progress. Well, some people just miss their teenage years too much.

@NeoGreendawg Just as nostalgia has not much to do with quality sometimes. Times change, people, that made songs for teenagers in their youth had grown up.

I'm not dissing the first two records. Actually, they are on my list of what I consider to be top records of the 90's and my personal favourites. But I think that as Placebo slowly got rid off that teenage derpession atmosphere they've improved as musicians.

I have to admit though, I don't know what to expect on the follow-up.

@RatSitnov That's somewhat true I guess but really most of their stuff is pretty simple even nowadays, and mostly based around the same ideas musically (not sure about lyrics), but technique and fancy effects or whatever aren't their strength anyway in my opinion.

I think that a lot of bands like Metallica for example, lost something with time, and it's nice that Placebo can at the very least keep making music as good as when they started.

@Arik1989 The fancy stuff makes atmosphere. I love the raw guitar-based drive of their early work but I consider their use of moody electronic elements on Meds and the pompous multi-layered sound of BFTS an important achievement. What does worry me a bit is where will they go from here.

Metallica lost it pretty recently and I think what they've lost is the desire to make music. Comes with certain age I guess. Even with St. Anger wich annoyed a ton of people they're were trying to do something..

@RatSitnov Yeah atmosphere is important , but take for example "Lady of the Flowers", which has awesome atmosphere and is extremely early and simple. I agree it's cool when bands try stuff for the sake of making original and powerful music, but what I meant is that Placebo can already achieve their intense emotional feel from their first album with really minimal effort, and that's what's important and they kept it. . Hope we'll hear a lot more good stuff from them, they're still young :)

@RatSitnov well, i was born in 1996 and i know placebo for about one year (and i absolutely love them) but actually for me they were way better back in 90s. they're not bad now, cause i really like 'bfts', but i fell in love with songs like 'my sweet prince', 'without you i'm nothing', if they'd record this kind of album at the beginning, they'd be nothing, cause there's billion bands like this. but i understand you and i agree with you. they're just mature people. they can't wear dresses tbc...
