this has to be the most gay town in pa goes to show u that people will make up some fuckin way that allows them to drink in public. dont bother going u will be board off your ass no word of lie waste of fuckin time. ps i hate Italians they have bo
Yeah, they invented the race 800 years ago in Italy so we could drink in Jessup. Good one, chuck. I'll be sure to tell the 20,000 people who show up again this year that you think they're actually not having a good time. But by all means, don't come. If you do, be sure to introduce yourself.
scamon01....hilarious response. Good for you. pmorgan is a douchebag. Although I was born and raised in Eynon, I have lived and work in New York City for the past 15 years, so it's not as though I have a dearth of activities I can participate in. But the Saint Ubaldo Race weekend was always a high point of every year, a great time, and I hope I can get back to it soon.
hey way to keep pa proud please check out my video peckville pa circa 1937 video. you may know some of the people or realted to them. you may know some of the buldings places and so on. the old baseball field was once there before the school was build and even before the stadium was there.
This video is incredible! I think that is very beautiful this tradition!
I live in Gubbio and everytime I see, take and support my Cero I feel so happy and amazed! I want to come in Jessup to see your Ceri and the Ceraioli of Jessup! It will be fantastic!
I like the rock music...:D...yeah..also for me the music is very important...I live for music...but there are some "places" where rock(or raggae, rap etc.) music are "inappropriate"...don't it? Hello from Gubbio! ;-)
I do not claim that we invented it, only that our fathers brought the candles to America, so we carry them. I understand that you don't like the rock music, and to be honest, I would probably never put that music under pictures of the race in Gubbio. It's different. But for us, the music means something different. No disrespect intended.
My Italian is very poor, but my town of Jessup has many immigrants from Gubbio and Perugia, from Umbria. My great-grandmother came from Perugia. We run to honor them and their home. Many people from Jessup, PA, USA are in Gubbio now, waiting for the original race. Thank you for watching my video!
There is no winner in Jessup either. I may have presented it in an unclear manner. The celebration at the end is only that the race is finished, and the difficult course is accomplished. My family runs with San Giorgio, so I focussed on them. The voices in the background speak of being part of 800 years of history and a great family of tradition. Thank you for your feedback.
I think I understand: The festa is on 15 Maggio in Gubbio, but we have it on Memorial Day weekend here so that many people from Jessup can go to Gubbio for the festa. Memorial Day is usually about two weeks after the Gubbio festa. It is the same festival, though.
C'ha colpa chi ve ce l'ha portati i ceri a jessup... ma penso che anche quei 4 poretti emigrati non potevano pensà che sarebbe finita cossì... W San Giorgio!
Immigrants from Gubbio and Perugia (I don't know exactly who) brought the statues and the tradition of the ceri to Jessup in 1911. They were very poor, but somehow they did it. Jessup was part of the coal mining communities of Pennsylvania, so they were hardworking people who loved their culture. I'm grateful they did! My Nona was from Perugia - Feliceta Ferri - her mother's family were the Marinangeli - Where are you from?
Ma questi stanno in America!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Credevo che i ceri fossero solo a Gubbio!! e pensare che su youtube non c 'è un video fatto bene di Gubbio!
We do carry the candles in Jessup- my great grandmother came from Perugia. Most of our town's grandparents came from Gubbio, Perugia, & other towns in Nochero Umbria! Thank you for your comments! I hope you like the video and I hope to visit Gubbio and see the ceri there. Thanks!
Wow! This a fantastic thing!! An Umbria's tradition goes to.. to? America? I don't know where is Jessup: I'd like to make an article in my perugiablog (by blogspot) I wait your answer

If you make it - ask for Sean on St. George. I'll buy you a brew. If I'm in any condition to recall this exchange.

I lived in Jessup for 4 years in the '70's and always wondered if St. Ubaldo Day was still being celebrated. Glad to see that it is!
