I love music and all, and I have a few favorites, but no one, absolutely no one, would make me go into stunned groupie mode like Annie Lennox. There is something about her. All this time and still, she is flawless (yeah I know this is old but she sang recently Universal Child and something else, just her and the piano). Her voice can really reach your soul and you can see she pours herself into. Luv ya Annie.
Only an ANNIE LENNOX has the balls to sing a great FREDDY MERCURY song and do it so well! I'm sure FREDDY was looking down from heaven and smilin' and saying ,"Yeah that was a great song wasn't it?
So I like how she completely forgot how wonderful the original song was and decided not only to take it down an octave (and c'mon, Freddie was a dude...singing higher), but she also basically forgot the "scat" that was so beautiful in this song. The fans tried to help, but she was unmoving.
Anyone else notice how David seemed to get kinda grossed out when she was all but humping his leg? Ah but, he's a gentleman, no matter how badly you slash a great song.
@wealthyreltub - first of all, she's a contralto, not a counter-tenor, so the octave change may have been necessary, not to mention finding a key that Bowie could also sing in, as he's essentially a baritone. And interpretation is just that - it's not as though you can't choose your own way to do a song.
What's the problem some people have with Annie? I mean... she's Annie.
She has a beautiful voice. I wouldn't mind spending a few minutes in the shower with her though, scrubbing off that raccoon makeup. The face under it is beautiful, too.
My only gripe with this video is that it's not LOUD enough!
Very cool,I can't think of anybody that could have pulled that song off, besides Annie Lennox, she was the perfect one to sing with Bowie!Truely magical art in the form of music!Freddy would be proud!R.I.P Freddy Mercury!
Amazing. I remember I was amazed when I saw it the first time live on tv. Annie and David Bowie are truly two of the greatest contemporary performers. It's good to see it again. Often these tributes duets don't get much rehearsals and can end up being just ok. This one is an exemple of great performance both musically and visually. Annie's outfit is great!
you can easily tell from this that queen had a better time playin it with freddie. john's whole body would be rockin with the bass beat, and brian may would be smilin the whole time. and that's make up? i thought it was a mask
John has never been the rocker. He sometimes had his seconds where he came out from himself but these moments were few. And when he became older he even became calmer. And about Brian smiling all the time. Show me the concert where he did that. Most of the time he was focused on his guitar playing.
Of course Freddie has a bigger stage presence, he is Freddie Mercury...the best rock n' roll front-man in history. The presence isn't the same, but I like the vocals better, the two voices compliment eachother beautifully.
You queen fans are not going to like me for this but sorry, having just watched a video of Freddie doing this live I prefer this version sorry. Freddie had a bigger stage presence than Annie he was known for this but I think Annie helped to take this song to greater heights live. Don't like the outfit or make-up though to harsh
i dunno...it seems like you guys are listenin to a different vid than me. i listened to this after listening to freddie's live at wembley version, and i just can't appreciate this nearly as much as freddie's. i appreciated MCR's cover better than this
This video is something any performing musician will appreciate, and it's one of my personal all-time favorite performances. They start out a little unsure of themselves, and Annie's vocal is even a tad off. But then something magical happens. It builds beautifully; they start to really FEEL the song. I think it's a beautiful tribute to Freddie Mercury, Queen and the art of the duet. Brilliant.
hehe the only time where david bowie looked sensible. Annie has a nice voice but there was something Freddie's voice had that no one has or will ever have. It was nice though.

@racookster - a friend of mine explained that makeup once. IN some culture or other, it's a pattern of makeup worn at a time of grieving.

okay, well brian doesn't smile that much...i was exaggerating. but on the wembley version of under pressure, john does rock his body to the beat.

Correct me if I'm wrong people. I know Bowie didn't do this live at the time it was released (1981), so is this his first ever live rendition?

But then, some people don't need attire to stand out- do they?
Bowie is just as sublime in a dodgy turquoise suit, a dapper tuxedo or full Ziggy drag.
