  • Immersed in the Australian education system, this is great reminder of what kids are capable of when they grow up in an environment that values music within cultural cosmopolitan vernacular. In Australia, music is almost non-existent both in our education system and within our cultural values.

  • Aged 12 at school in Edinburgh a friend and I were belted for singing this beautiful song. It was Science Class & I'd whispered that it always made me cry, so we started to sing it, but Miss Cochrane was not impressed. 50 years later the song still makes me cry. This version is heartbreakingly gorgeous!

  • she needs to watch her tune as she goes to high i think she would be better with a pianist. i sing this song and know she is defindetly screeching at the high notes but apart from it was okay

  • @Fionne96 does it really matter? No one was looking for your advise. She sounds great!. Accapella no less!

  • i didnt say she wasnt good

  • @Fionne96 lol

  • lol :L

  • @Fionne96 Hmmm....I think SOMEONE needs to watch her punctuation and spelling. Or would you be better with a pianist, Fionne96?

  • @taggartjs okay whatever you say, i was giving my oppinion to help her because with help and training she could be very good. So dont start on me because i gave my opinion okay?

  • looks american ta mee

  • So lovely, so lovely! Just heartbreaking...she has a wonderful voice. And the tune and words are of course wonderful as well.

  • Wi' lightsome heart I pu'd a rose,

    Fu' sweet upon its thorny tree;

And my fause lover stole my rose,

But ah! he left the thorn wi' me. Wi' lightsome heart I pu'd a rose

Fu' sweet upon its thorny tree

And my fause lover stole my rose

But ah he left the thorn wi' me

(the above is the last part and sorry i am not better at this)

  • from what i understand he took her virginity, and then left her when she got pregnant.

  • Which is why I feel a bit weird when a guy sings this, especially as it were a happy romantic love song.

  • @taragolden THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT IT WAS.

  • @taragolden thats some fucked up shit for a child

  • Ye banks and braes o' bonnie Doon,

How can ye bloom sae fresh and fair?

How can ye chant ye little birds,

And I sae weary, fu' o' care? Ye'll break my heart, ye warbling birds,

That wanton through the flow'ry thorn,

Ye 'mind me o' departed joys,

Departed never to return. Oft hae I rov'd by bonnie Doon,

    To see the rose and woodbine twine;

And ilka bird sang o' its love,

And fondly sae did I o' mine.

  • my Scot left the thorn wi me , too.

The following are the words she sings so sweetly

  • Awesome, very impressive. Hope to hear more

  • Wow. That was very good :D

  • bravo

  • This was really good. I'm singing a version of this in chorus. look it up sometime in december! (:

  • Wonderful! Canna stop playing it.

  • is she scottish?

  • yes.

  • Oh, alright. 'Cause I'm NEW Scottish.

  • She just sounded more like me than a Scottish person, lol.

  • @taragolden

Beautiful. My daughter's singing it for a school contest (and she's about half Scottish herself, the rest Irish). I can only hope she leaves the same lump in the throat of the judges that this wee lass left in mine.

  • OMG,...

    BRAVO!!!!,,,BRAVO !!!! WEE LASS..

stunning voice and brought tears to my eyes..im being serious..i have tears in my eyes listening to this.

  • crying? get a life!!

  • And you are so smart with your comments..who are u to tell anyone to get a life just because a song can bring tears regardless of who sings it..if you cannot feel emotions listening to a song then why listen..leave people to have their feelings without downing them please,,

  • i second that... calza13, YOU get a life!!! you can cry AND still BE A MAN! in fact, crying demonstrates that you ARE a man because you show your vulnerabilities. as mortal beings, we all have them. even you, "iron toughman!"

  • llol yeah this is brutal

  • thanks for your feedback.. its interesting that some people feel that there is only one right way to respond to music/art.

  • Beautiful

    the next enya

  • Great job!

  • a little more training good at your age but i dont really enjoy saprano singers sing alto

  • Wow!!! She is soooo goood!

  • wow scotlands got talent

  • Better than all the pop music on youtube.

    Keep shining sweety.

  • Very cute little girl. She captures the emotion of the song well :)

  • This is breathtaking. Just......breathtaking. All the heartbreak in this song brought out by one little girl!!! You sing beautifully, much love from America :)

  • That's wonderful!

Robbie Burns would be very happy to hear you sing so sweetly.

  • You sing this very extraordinarily sweet and nostalgic. Be sure to extend the phrases a little bit longer - you seem to be breathing too often.

  • I was always taught never to breathe in the middle of a word.

  • holy shit. that girl can sing

  • A lovely song written by an amazing talent and man that knew about tender feelings and human emotion. Very well sung indeed :-)

  • Toby

In all my 76 years I have never heard this sung so beautifully

  • You broke my heart

  • how very beautiful.

  • Awesome !!! Lovely voice ! Greeting from Buenos Aires.

  • Little Jasmin, the first time I watched this video could'nt help to replay it like twenty times. I am from Buenos Aires, Argentina, a poet and lover of poetry and am absolutely sure Rabbie would LOVE you!!! This is all a poet can wish: being sung two hundred years after his death, by a lovely little girl, near the cottage where he was born. Nothing can measure Burns' grandeur better than this.

  • I've posted before but this wee lass is undoubtedely the best ,nae, nearest tae perfection and what Rabbie would like it tae be sung as I've ever heard.

If there is any who knows how to make this available to the world then do so.

    From An honest Ayrshireman.

  • That was lovely. It makes an old Scottish man proud that there are still young people who are keeping our cultural heritage alive rather than trying to copy black american culture. We have a lot to be proud of. Lets shout about it!

  • duncane17, the world is a mixture of many interesting and beautiful cultures.. i also love scottish music and i learned a lot about the great bard burns during my travels to the Uk, but other cultures( suuch as black americans) have a rich and powerful musical history too..I think there is no reason for a singer to have to choose one or another.

  • thanks everyone x

  • better than me.. well that is i never did it so 5*****

  • shes amazing :)

  • this is pretty! i enjoyed it.

  • Guid lass,superb!

  • That kids' got some voice, doesn't she?

  • good singing! were playing that song in band

  • love the scots and that wee lassie is definitely a very good sample! :) well done you!

  • bravo!...you remind me of the little girl from the movie 'waterworld'...

  • omg you are good i was at the homecoming 250th anniversary of rabbie burms this year it was great but you should have sang there you are absaloutly great luv you and KEEP GOING xxxxx

  • Well I'm an American, but I think a beautiful young lady singing a beautiful song so well transcends national boundaries. I think Rabbie Burns would be proud of you, young lady. It was beautiful.

  • And the most difficult way to sing, and the most difficult and revealing way to impress someone is to sing acapella. I am impressed. Very.

  • wanderful voice and accurate tuning, lovely!

  • happy robert burns day,everyone!

  • Gorgeous! Absolutely spine tingling!xx

  • Lovely!

  • That wee lassie has got perfect pitch! Not a note wis oot a' tune! She'll gang far!

  • that was really touching- can't believe i actually was able to sing parts of that for my school's burns night when i was 11!!!

  • Nice one hen, keep it up, can u do Bonnie Mary 'o' Argyle?, that's ma fav, if so post it and i'll not take long findin it

  • My former comment was meant to be addressed to sugarcanebigdaddy!!!! The wee lassie is wonderful. I wish she were my daughter

  • My cousin is a Scottish lass who sings acapella, she got me to liking the form , and I really like your performance, excellent, well done,Alba Go Bragh

  • A nice rendition, I don't know what dialect she is, but I've always like Scottish languages. It would be nice if she didn't sing with her throat so much, but she's young, I can't fault her for that. It'd also be nice without the wind in the mic, but you're outside, you can't really avoid it.

Good work, hope to hear more from you in the future.

  • sugarcanebigdaddy...

are you Scottish? then shame on you... if otherwise... THIS is how folk music is meant to be to be sung, Ignoramus.

    In tune, untheatrical, and talented.

    Shut up.

    K

  • hey kazzathekat, thanks for the response to the nasty comment.. normally i remove those comments but this one snuck by me.. as you can see from the other comments here most people would disagree with him.. but i guess he is entitled to his opinion.. at least he didnt use profanity.

  • Juat listening to this angle, tears flow like drops of water driping out a leaking fucet.

  • She Sings Beautifully, I've listened Tae It For A While Now.
