However, I read that the old breed Neapolitan Mastiffs were used in Mesopotania to guard cattle and living spaces from lions which were living in that part of the world at the time. Obviously this is not the case here, but I don't believe it's accurate to say that the lion would kill ANY dog in seconds. Perhaps the Neapolitan Mastiff wouldn't have been killed at all...
