Fitting tribute. So many memories. We were untouchable back then. Glad to say i was lucky enough to see some of the greatest players and some of rugbys greatest moments at that very stadium.
@medicdeano i used to stand with all the singers on the pop side of central park and allways got a shower of beer if we scored just after half time great days with a team that record will never be beaten ,god i miss that ground .
@bobnudd Ye I know- I used to come up from Wirral to watch my team great nights in the pissin rain on the terraces watchin Leeds get hammered on a Friday night!!
central park was rugby league... it makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck when i watch the video at the part of martin offiah brett kenny and john moanie talking about it...
does anyone know what the song is called starts on 5:51 mark
I still have never walked back down that street that used to lead us the entrance at central park and never will, and if that is you Ellery thx for the amazing rugby you played for us ,i have seen the best over the years in that ground but when you got the ball it was out of this world with your skill and flair and one day i hope you come back to us and bring back the glory days .
central park was the place to watch rugby i was a season ticket holder frm 1995 to the day the bulldozers moved in.. the jjb has nothin on central park.... R.I.P
what memories how can i ever forget central park i used to make 60 mile round trip every match with my wife and two young lads getting into the ground just to sample the atmosphere was worth the admission price alone but better still putting my young lads on my shoulders so they could see the action, they still argue who about who got the best trys and remember kelvin skerret running 50 yards doing his superman act and launching himself in the free for all unforgettable long live cp
I have the greatest memories of Central Park spent manya time there as a kid being chased off when the ground was shut by the staff for kicking about on the pitch. I think every young kid in wigan used to dream of playing on that ground. I remember the homecomings from wembley on the open top buses the whole town came out and then converged on Central Park. Central Park lives on in the hearts and minds of all wiganers who went there a true MECCA for rugby fans from everywhere.
life as never been the same since central park was stolen. however, lets hope brian noble can bring back the glory years. wigan born and bred ancient and loyal.kooch now living in the midlands but will travel the world to seemy team
yep know what u mean, but central park was always packed and not as funnily not as exposed to the win. Pie and peas always tasted better there too and kept me warm
wow the great days and then i look out my bedroom window and see a tesco carpark.theres still the emergency section painted in yellow on the floor at the end of our street b4 you walk up the side giddle to the royal oak and the griffin for matchday pint
I played once on central park when i was 13 for leigh ce high against the greenery school of wigan,in the english schools final we lost that day but what a souvenir to get changed in those sacred wigan changeing rooms that the greats had graced . An irreplacable magic, never forgotten.shame its gone now ,anyone else there that day??
Always remembered... I still vision the red + white Dougie stand everytime I drive past. Can still smell the mix of Cigarette smoke, ale and urine if I think about it behind the Poplar stand. CP - our home.
