mainly because it was pre-recorded and edited in advance. The tracks were shorter. Singing live on television is hard and can take time. They wanted their performers to sound perfect and doing that live, for some, was difficult. im not a loser here i just used to work on the show!

Well yes i wasn't trying to give a history of the show, just the latter years. Very few were allowed to sing live by the end, only really big stars who were trusted to sing well. No I worked on it from 2000 until its end on and off.

ps Where is this order from Thatcher because unless she made a law she had no control over what happened on TV, she was Prime Minister not a dictator or queen!
