Hey cowgomow black smoke on a nasty diesel like that is a great thing, he needs all that extra fuel because of all the power that cummins is putting out. Also Vicezed you know nothing about diesel engines so please spare us, he is running the truck with a aftermarket fuel delivery system not some fucking smoke kit, And it is getting plenty of air because the boost guage reached 45 PSI of air flow, that cummins is getting plenty of air.

its not a smoke kit, go look up some diesel pulling sites, its pretty cool actually. its smoking so much cause all the fuel its getting, because with diesel engines especially, fuel is power. i'm sure he has a aftermarket turbo, so it is getting tons of air. so don't listen to these assholes, that chose to insult instead of educate.i'm a diesel mechanic in the marines, so if you have any questions just ask.

reving up in neutral wont hurt anything unless he goes into the 3500+rpm range on stock valve springs. i assume he has aftermarket valve springs due to the blue chip redline box.

oh yeah, i know a lot of diesel mechanics (being a former one myself) who don't know crap about the performance side of things and think you will burn up valves straight piping it, or blow you motor because of the smoke, etc. It doesn't make you more credible.

black smoke will over heat exhaust valves, this can cause valve heads to snap off, thats why u must have a pyrometer on exhaust.

When u cant boost anymore (limits of turbo efficiency envelope) u over fuel, however with black smoke u can add more air for more power.

As a mechanic u r used to black smoke being a fault.

personally i think you are full of shit after tuning my 98 dodge 12 valve and yes that means mechanically tuned not computer chip tuned it blows smoke out the ass and i went from 13 to 17 mpg so obviously smoke does mean its unburned wasted fuel just face it man the smoke is the shit yes stacks are gay though

Black smoke is fuel burnt without enough oxygen so insted of CO2 u get CO and C (carbon) aswell as other things from the hydrocarbon (fuel), when u burn fuel with oxygen u combine the carbon with oxygen and the hydrogen with oxygen, with less oxygen u have seperated carbon molocules.

Diesels deliver best power when overfueled to the point of smoking.

If smoke suddenly occurs u have a fault and less power, but u can up fuelling and smoke and get more.
