Typical Canadian ignorance of our own history and institutions. The Queen is not useless; she is the sole Officer of the Constitution who can personally stop a coup d'etat. For example, such as the annexation of Canada to the USA and Mexico to form a North American Union under a new form of government, which is HIGH TREASON, and an abuse of the Executive powers vested in the Queen for the purpose of her protecting them. See: s. 9 of the Constitution, the BNA Act of 1867.
this is a stupid misinformed skit. Canadian tax dollars don't give anything to the Queen, unless she's there on a state visit....but then again that's what any country would do for security, accommodations, etc. for visits from dignitaries.
@felswitch She doesn't need God's help with all that money she and her parasitic family are sitting upon from draining citizens of their wealth. The British monarchy doesn't have nearly as much of the political or governmental power it once had, and the fact that they still somehow are deemed important enough to continue to be paid for being "royals" is a farce. I'm surprised they haven't done away with the "royalty" by now, but I guess delusional loyalists such as yourself are the reason.
@TheOmegaParadigm With no GG we would have another head of state to pay for.
They aren't paid by us and they're a revenue generator for the UK. Their family owns huge amounts of land in the UK that is used by the government and public without rent asked or paid. Those jewels are theirs by law. Their position is ceremonial and its a ceremony loved by many.
Most anti-monarchists are just Anglophobes who hate the fact that the UK is part of Canada's history. Its in the books, deal with it.
@felswitch Can't say I hate the fact that Great Britain is part of Canada's history any more than I hate the fact it was part of the United States' history as well. I'm not preaching disdain for monarchism as a system of government, if that's what you think, I'm sorry that I may have mislead you. What I don't like is that the royal family is still held in such high regard despite the fact that they are unnecessary. They may own land, and I won't refute that, but they act as financial parasites.
@TheOmegaParadigm I hear you. The idea of hereditary rule is almost universally recognized as a bad method of choosing leaders but they're not our leaders.
I guess I feel like we're at the point where we all know they're a historically relevant custom and see that they're not a threat to sovereignty or freedom.
@felswitch I don't know if you know this, but the Queen of England is a symbol of oppression in many parts of the world. In India, they are a symbol of oppression. I am glad you are so happy to celebrate 200 years of enslavement of India.
You should join the Germans in celebrating Adolf Hitler. Oh wait...the Germans don't celebrate Hitler. Wonder why....
@Mrparrot73 They are free and sane to celebrate Angela Merkel (their current leader) just like I celebrate the current Monarch without it meaning I celebrate every chapter of its history. I would think an American would understand that.
India was never enslaved in any literal sense of the word.... I would have thought an American knew something about that too.
@felswitch Dude...the British dont celebrate the Queen in any ordinary sense of the word...it's appropriate to say they worship the queen and are required to worship the queen. And they dont just worship the queen, they swear allegiance to any and every person in her bloodline. The German national anthem is not a prayer for the personal well being of Angela Merkel. How could you possibly confuse an elected leader with someone who rules by "divine right"?
@Mrparrot73 When you swear allegiance to the queen's heirs and successors, there are no conditionals, are there? Doesn't it mean that if tomorrow Prince Charles were to declare that his personal dream was to make all Jews and blacks wear yellow stars, he still has your sworn allegiance?
@Mrparrot73 Fair point - See Edward 8th. A nazi sympathizing neurotic who constantly pissed himself, while at the same time was fucking a twice divorced hermaphrodite american man/woman (wallis simpson), whom he was obsessed with, yet she didnt give a shit about him.
@Mrparrot73 - what a STUPID point to make. If Charles were King he wouldn't even have the power to implement any law where "Jews and blacks wear yellow stars". The oath of allegiance is an oath to the people, of whom the Queen is the symbolic head. The Queen is the symbol of oppression?!? I don't see how her ancestor's actions has anything to do with her. If you had a Grandfather who was an axe murderer, what the hell would that have to do with you?
@mrlopez2681 Your point would be correct if the Queen was an elected ruler. The SOLE reason Elizabeth is accepted as queen of canada is BECAUSE her ancestors built the Empire. The Queen is a symbol of continuity with the imperial tradition AND has absolutely no other role than to emphasize and maintain that continuity. hence, when you embrace the imperial tradition, you must also accept the blame for the bloody trail of oppression central to that imperial tradition.
@mrlopez2681 Its like how you would feel about a modern Nazi. No modern Nazi has killed anyone, but if all he does is celebrate, advertise and promote the beauty of the holocaust, would you not despise him? The Queen has no role other than to celebrate, advertise and promote the history of British imperialism.
1:00 I agree with him on this. I would tell them to get out. As far as I know, we don't need them. If they want to come for a visit then let them pay there own way. Just like everyone else.
@willham95 It is easy for you to bring down America, based on how America today is sold out. Yeah the british wedding was a joke and I could care less about it. Well 63 % of yanks also believe in UFOs does that mean that they are real? Does that make those 63% representative of the best traditions of what America once was? America is going down a hellhole path, but Canada is not the place to look to. Canada doesn't even have a constitution, I have been there, their government is a big joke.
Why is a Queen in England the head of the government in Canada? Simply answer, Canadians are a bunch of cowards. How hard of a concept is this. Revolutions are fought so that you aren't subjugated under authority by people who are a thousand miles away doing their hair and nails and petting horses and having sex and breeding with their cousins and sisters and brothers. Canada hasn't figure out this concept yet, that is why their money shows the faces of inbred people a.k.a the royals.
@MarkScheppy Yeah and the United States is a bankrupt backwards hellhole that is currently looking to Canada to reform its failed banking system/slay its debilitating deficit. Also, more Yanks (officially 63% of them) cared about the Royal Wedding than the British themselves. Go figure "eh" ;-)
It's not just getting rid of a freeloading monarch but WHY does one need to ask someone 'permission' for an election? This is TYRANNY b/c this is a conflict of interest when the prime minister will call an election on the good times and none on the terrible ones.
Here in the US, we have a SET DATE. On the 1st Tue of Nov. every 4 years, the President faces election/re-election. So, Obama has until 11/6/2012, to improve the economy or else Sarah Palin replaces him.
British soldiers went into America, killed everyone in their way and burnt their Whitehouse to the ground as payback for them going to Canada and burning parliment buildings down and this is how you repay them? Your ancestors will be turning in their graves at thought of a republic, Those brave men and women died for King and country.
Ya we Americans know this like crazy... You'd be surprised at how the average Canadian really doesn't know their under foreign rule by a British monarch... . Same goes for Australia and New Zealand too... But than again all those countries have very small populations too... So that may have something to do with it. Either way the Queen is old and gay...
I usually agree with Rick, but here, not so much. The grounds already are a big park, open to the public.
The Queen we could do without (though the change isn't worth the effort), but someone needs to do the GGs job. The secretariats in Rideau Hall need to exist. The state functions that happen there need to be performed. The system works, and there's no point changing it for cosmetic reasons. I don't see how adopting American ideals would somehow be more Canadian than what we have now.
Sorry...Canadians don't have the balls to fight for their rights.....cowards still living with the Queen of ANOTHER country on your money????..it must be so weird to reach in and pull out money and see the Queen of another country?????How PATHETIC
@flosssock I have a question?? Why are Canadians such pussies that they go around with the Queen of another country on the money in their pocket...you should be embarrassed!.......you have always been considered a country of cowardly men...you..unlike The USA, couldn't muster the balls to throw of the monarchy.....you're a joke to Americans....there really isn't enough words to say how pathetic it is....why are Canadians such PUSSIES?? There's a question for ya
@mjw9363 Shes our Queen, Queen of Canada constitutionally, and even if she wasn't we would still be loyal to her because we are British as well. We think you're a joke for eventuallu pushing out the British with help from the French and Dutch and everyone, you give up your freedom and stability to carry on with you cruel slavely and mindless ways of life. YOU are the pussies, Canada has the most experienced and the most powerful head of state in the world as its head of state.
Can I just mention, being British, technically Canada is still under British rule. Remember that. It's not like you are being ruled by some foreigner. No that's a problem we have here in the UK, we're ruled by the EU but that's another story.
The Queen is your head honcho technically, if you want to become a republic then fine but I'll warn you: Don't end up like America.
@alex471996 Yeah god forbid they end up being like America. Becoming a powerful completely independent nation that has completely stepped out of the shadow of colonial rule and some might say threw the mother country into its shadow instead. By the way how is the United States of Europe coming along?
@cwa1984 Then you don't understand how Constitutional Monarchies...i.e. our govenrment, works. And you haven't been paying attention to Canadian politics at all.
@agentm83 Actually you missed my point I said when "Canada gets rid of the British monarchy I'll agree with you." As in the non Canadian institution but the British one if you want to create a real Canadian monarchy that's up to you however the British Monarchy is British not Canadian which is the whole point of this video. So when Canada does away with the British institution than I'll agree that Canada is completely independent.
@cwa1984 Actually, legally she is the Queen of Canada, as well as the Queen of Australia, and New Zealand etc. So it is a Canadian monarchy, the monarch just happens to reside elsewhere. Besides that point, the fact is that she reigns but does not rule, we have been completely independent since the Statute of Westminster in 1931, and have had de facto independence to varying degrees since Confederation.
@agentm83 1982 was the year Canada became almost completely independent of Great Britain. The only left to do is to gjust get rid of the British Monarchy. Since the monarch lives in Britain, is British, and is a symbol of Britain not Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. If you all want to continue monarchy that's up to you however calling the British Monarchy yours when they only visit every couple of years doesn't make any sense.
@cwa1984 Well, 1982 was when we made it more official with "Patriation" yes. I'm just saying that you can't claim that we're not independent when we've had self-governance for centuries.
@agentm83 Your are independent however not 100% (no country is by the way) however you still have the British monarchy. I'd say your in the upper 90% like all countries are since no country is trully independent no matter what any of us might say or wish. However other countries I would say are more independent since they don't have a foreign head of state.
@cwa1984 Ohh you're an American. Ok that explains a lot, you guys often have a skewed view on Monarchies. Anyways, this is simply an argument over semantics at this point. We've been a country since 1867, and prior to that the separate colonies had self-governance for a while. We keep the "British" monarchy because we choose to, if we wanted to we could ditch it at any time if we could muster the political will to change our Constitution. If that isn't independence I don't know what is.
@cwa1984 Why not: Owe $14 trillion (+ $4.17 billion per day), 47 million without healthcare. 9%+ unemployed, 14th (36.5%) for college degrees; behind Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Japan, the Netherlands, NZ, Norway, Poland, Portugal, the Slovak Rep., Sweden & the UK, around 80ppl killed by guns each day, child mortality rate that is 75 percent higher than the Czech Republic, Finland, Italy, Japan, Norway, Slovenia & Sweden and 2 million+ in prison and where only 40% believe in evolution.
@dtkd100 I'd rather be running the U.S. right now than Ireland afterall the U.S. doesn't need a bailout like Ireland does. Also if you did you're actually homework instead of just copying and pasting you would know that each country measures things differently so you have to find the actually differences in how countries measure things before you make an accurate comparison but that would require you and organizations that put up these statistics to actually do some work.
@cwa1984 What is this thing with Ireland u have? However, it is funny u use Ireland a lot in ur argument as the part of Ireland (the Republic of Ireland) which broke away from the UK, is the part of Ireland which needs the bail out while Northern Ireland which is still part of the UK does not... And I will not use statistics to back that up, as I know Americans like urself don't like facts and figures, but prefer the gut feeling to guide them through life.
@dtkd100 What you mocked my nation and I can't mock Ireland for being Britain's bitch? Also when people refer to Ireland they tend to refer to the Republic of Ireland they don't use Ireland to describe Northern Ireland I don't get what is hard to understand about that. Also you didn't win independence the British let you go because you were just to much of a pain in the ass to deal with. Also do come up with something orginal to say instead of copying typical Eurotrash lines.
@cwa1984 I never mocked ur country, bt I didn’t point out how imperfect it is. And even if u only refer to the Republic, that is the half which is a REPUBLIC and needed a bail out. And if any country in Ireland is Britain’s Bitch that would be the North, but they didn’t need the bail out, so must be good to be the bitch of Britain. Euro trash to a yank is anyone who has travelled, university educated, doesn't own a gun and doesn’t have a picture of Bush or Sarah Palin on his wall to wank to.
@dtkd100 You came on here and immediately started mocking my country trying to post negatively about it than posted negatively about me as well. Your the one who started this not me. Also if you mean by the North as in Northern Ireland they are a part of the UK which currently doesn't need a bailout so that is stupid statement on your part. Eurotrash to an American is any dumbass European who talks shit about the United States while knowing jack shit about it that's why I called you eurotrash
@cwa1984 U cannot put any facts or figures to back up ur argument, while relying on insults and swear words to get urself out of a corner. U know nothing abt Europe so u must be white trailer trash, who shagged his sister and believes Fox News. So, take that England football shirt as it is insulting to most decent euro trash who do not want to be mistake for u. Additionally, I would rather be Euro trash then white Yankee trailer trash, as most euro trash have an education.
@dtkd100 Claiming I know nothing about Europe is pretty stupid on your part since you don't know where I was originally born or where my friends or family live. However you're continued sterotypical idiotic responses show you know absolutely nothing about the U.S. besides something you saw in some dumbass movies.
@cwa1984 When u use the paradigm that Canada should change bc it doesn’t make sense to u as an American, u leave urself open to people pointing out what is wrong with ur country.
For example, things which don’t make sense to me abt the US: has a copy of the East India Company's flag as its national flag, holds elections on a Tuesday (without a national holiday), uses an electoral college to elect its president and has bases all over the world bt denies it has an empire. Will u change these?
@dtkd100 Not really I just stated an opinion and responded to brit who was being a complete asshole just like you. Some things don't make sense to people from other countries like how Ireland was to fucking weak to break off from the British Empire even though they were getting massive funding to help them do so from Irish Immigrants in my own country. Also you have to be pretty fucking stupid to ask me to change U.S. foreign policy since I as an individual have no control over it.
@cwa1984 You can always pick the people on the net who have not have a good education. They are normally the ones who use swearwords or derogatory words towards others to win their argument. It is normally bc they lack the vocab to make a proper argument. Your argument is very problematic as 2/3 of Ireland did break away and only Northern Ireland or 1/3 if that is under British Rule. No, you don't control the US, but the "you" I used was acollective one, referring to all Americans and the US.
@dtkd100 First off before you try and go on about things you know nothing about like my education you should look at yourself in the mirror long and hard first and wonder if what you are saying actually applies to yourself and not others. Second off you insulted me and my entire nation in a comment when I was discussing one institution of Canada I didn't agree with. The only response I gave on here that was rude befire you came along was to some Brit who made a stupid comment about my nation.
@cwa1984 perhaps if u didnt go around talking shite abt peoples countries and their system government people would not be rude to u. And as u seem to be a right wing republican, here is some to think abt, the anti-monarchist in europe tend to be the leftist, tree huggers and hippies. People like u want to go around telling everyone else what is wrong with their countries but god forbid any say anything bad abt ur beloved republic.
@dtkd100 Perhaps if you minded your own goddamn business and actually read what I wrote instead of making dumbass remarks than you wouldn't get pointed as being a fool. Your last sentence is typical of eurotrash since you all fail to come up with something original because you all are uncappable of doing so. It's one thing to say no I don't like this institution its another to attack the entire nation which you did. I posted my thoughts about the monarchy without being an asshole like you.
@cwa1984 Let me conceptualise this for u. In the general discourse surrounding the monarchy, I have a right to express my opinion or defend the institution as I am a subject of HM. And the world is not a monolithic society which runs as American does or how u would want it to. Canadians have the right to conceptualise their country how they deem fit and so do the people of Australian, NZ, PNG and the British isles.
@dtkd100 I responded to an institution I think is outdated since it is a British Institution not a Canadian one. I didn't come on here and say Canada sucks and try to bad mouth the nation I made a comment about one particular thing I didn't agree with. The video posted on here doesn't agree with the monarchy either so I'm not trolling on here unlike you. That's something you should really think about that is assuming you are capable of doing so.
@cwa1984 The person who made this video is Canadian, and while I disagree with his opinion, he as a Canadian has the right to voice his opinion about his owncountry. U as a yank should not tell Canadians how to run their country, while ur country is far from perfect. I responded with things which are outdate or nonsensical about ur republic, bt to u what u say is fact and the truth, while anything said abt ur country is seen as mocking it or just wrong. U are a hypocrite of the first order.
@dtkd100 Me as an American whose country borders Canada has Canadian friends that think the institution is outdated and who generally share an interest in politics gave my opinion on the matter. Also again your sterotypical ranting about the U.S. and Americans just shows that you know nothing about the U.S. or Americans. You most likely watched some hollywood films which are the worst representation of the U.S. and Americans and think you actually understand the U.S. when you know nothing.
@cwa1984 American didn't eclipse Great Britain until after WWI, so 1776-1914 is how long it took for America to become more powerful than Great Britain. If anything it had more to do with the United States relative isolation and geography than it had to do with independence. And America never had the same Empire that Britain did. The USA can't even seem to control one country int he Middle East with oodles of technology and advanced weaponry. The British did it with muskets.
@xpo50 The British also dealt with people who didn't have access to modern weaponry at the time either and the U.S. doesn't want to be like the British Empire. Geography defineately played a major role with the United States rise to power however the U.S. being independent helped greatly to since it enabled the U.S. to have extremely powerful industrial base something if the U.S. was still part of Britain I highly doubt would've happened.
@cwa1984 Compared to the weaponry America has access to, the insurgents are just as ill equipped. Furthermore, if America was a British colony the same industrial base would have been established, we look at Canada in late 19th century early 20th becoming the world's largest manufacturer of naval ships. the fact is that the colonizer has an interest in making their colony as economically prosperous as possible to make themselves as prosperous as possible. Industrialization is an inevitability.
@xpo50 No the same industrial base wouldn't have been established. The reasons for it are the territory the U.S. acquired after winning the revolutionary war. Britain wouldn't have gone to war over Texas like the U.S. did so the United States wouldn't have acquired the South West. The Louisiana Purchase is up in the air the British might have gotten the land or France might have sold it to Spain or held onto long enough to sell it to Mexico instead.
@cwa1984 These are all mights, I mean many things might happen in history, but they didn't so it is really impossible to know. Britain might have won the revolutionary war if James Wolfe hadn't died during the Battle of Quebec. Britain might have fought all the same wars the Americans did and wound up with the same amount of land over the years. Britain and Spain were allies during the time of the Louisiana purchase so Napoleon would not want to aid his enemy.
@xpo50 It's highly unlikely as in 99.99% unlikely that Britain would've fought the same battles the U.S. did. After all the British pissed off Americans before the revolutionary war by stopping them from going westward since the British didn't want to have to deal with the Indians and the British also wanted to create an Indian free state in Ohio to smooth tensions over so if the U.S. remained part of the British Empire it would be nowhere near as large and strong as it is today.
@cwa1984 well the fact is that if it had not been for Britain, America as you know it would never exist, to say America won its rights independently would be a mistake seeing as American politics were directly influenced by British politics. The American constitution was modeled off the British one andall the founding fathers were of British descent. And had Britain never colonized the East Coast, there would never have been a chance for Americans to conquer the West and fight any wars ever.
@xpo50 If it wasn't for Britain the U.S. would not exist I haven't made argument against that because only a fool would try to make that argument. So I'm not getting the point of your post. As far as the U.S. Constitution goes it was influenced by Britain, Greece, Rome, and somewhat by the Iroquois as well.
@xpo50 Also there is the matter of Alaska as well which the United States purchased from Russia when the United States wasn't a world power which Britain was so I highly doubt Britain would've gotten Alaska from the Russians or that Britain would've wanted it. So no the U.S. wouldn't have been the industrial power that it became if it was still a colony under Britain. God only knows how the Pacific theater in WW2 would've played out not to mention the cold war as well.
@xpo50 As far as the weaponry goes IEDs weren't common place back in the days of the British Empire so no the insurgents aren't as ill equiped as you claim.
The US a completely independent nation??? ROFLMAO, with $12 trillion in foreign debts and $1.5 trillion in annual imports it's hardly to be called independent.
Powerful? Maybe, but only because it's the only country on the planet where it's tax payers are stupid enough to fund $720 million a day for their military.
@pauluminous Japan's debt is 200% of there GDP and yet they are still doing well. As far as imports go the U.S. imports a lot of low end end products tee shirts, toys, coffee makers, shit like that from countries like China because it is cheaper to make them in China vs producing them in the United States. The big thing the U.S. imports is alot of oil but than again so do several European nations. Japan has to literally import almost all of there energy sources unlike the U.S...
All good and well, but that doesn't make the US independent. Hope ur happy with all your coal, I'm sure it tastes real yummie, I rather have a stroll in a forest than in a coal mine or a corn field :~ Countries like South Korea don't reallly have an option of fending for themself since the US forced trade agreements upon them after the Korean war. I'm not all for globalisation so overseas trade and warfare to ensure that happening kinda goes beyond me.
@pauluminous If we go by your defination than no country on earth is independent (this is true to some extent and wrote that earlier on here as well) instead they are all slaves to each other. Forced trade agreements? The U.S. South Korea trade free deal went back and forth for years before compromises were made... you're talking out your ass when it comes to U.S. South Korea trading. Realpolitik is beyond you because you are fucking stupid.
MY defination of independents? Ever looked in a dictionary? So you went from the US being independent to it being a slave???? KORUS FTA actually only took a few months in '07 and it was renegotiated later on in 2010, which took about a year and a half, on and off.
Do you know the contents? The fact it was lobbied and "approved" by companies like Ford and Monsanto, mayor US player in in the industries that are the backbone of SK, says it all.
@pauluminous No it took a few years since it wasn't ratified in 2007 because a concensus wasn't reached and the U.S. trade representative Ron Kirk and his south korean equivalent did work on the project for quite a while and there was discussion on both sides after 2007 about a South Korea and U.S. trade deal so this has been years in the making. Also if you think the U.S. is getting fucked in the South Korea Free Trade agreement you need to look at Canada's trade talks with South Korea.
@pauluminous Which has more coal than any other country on the planet and huge amounts of natural gas as well. As far as our military spending goes it is in the U.S. best interest to spend a lot of money on the military. Doing so insures world wide trade on the seas goes uniterrupted so goods move from place to place and it keeps countries like South Korea in existence. You would know this if you actually fucking thought about it but thinking is probably beyond your capability.
Wake up People, it costs us Billions of Dollars for her to visit once every 5 years at best. Yet she has no political power, unless suggested by the PM. Regardless of your Political views, Canada needs a Canadian Head of State Period!
@SWOMARK Billions!? :D Canada already has a Canadian head of state - how could it not? - and it costs millions per year, for offices, residences, and security and travel associated with state duties, the exact same as it is for every other head of state on earth. Unless, you have a plan for the planet's first no-cost president?
@gbambino Millions x5 years equals Billions, and I would much rather spend that on a true Representative, a Canadian Head of State. Not some Foreigner, again, who visits once every 5 years at Best! I respect our History but time for a change. So your response of upkeep offices, residence and security would be better spent in Canada rather than the UK, or who knows maybe Australia or NZ? I bet your excited about some English 28 year old foreigners wedding too? Dont worry your helping to pay!
@gbambino "Canada already has a Canadian head of state - how could it not?"
By having a BRITISH one.
Cut the crap. When the Queen goes abroad, to the US or France or Germany, do you actually think the people there are saying, "Oh, look, there's the head of state of CANADA! There's the Queen of CANADA!" No, of course not. Most of them have no idea she has anything to do with us at all. Why would they? She's the Queen of England 1st, 2nd & last.
Honestly, I believe people have a far better view of countries such as Austrialia (as much as possible for the obvious reasons); Canada and New Zealand, because the Queen of England is their Queen as well. But that's my opinion. If Canada overthrew the Monarchy, Canada would be another state within the USA. Long live Canada! Long live the UK! Long live Portugal! The oldest alliance in the world!
coming from an irish man now living in Britain, being a republic would not change much, you would still not be allowed to go into the queens Canada house as that's where the president of Canada would live. yes the Queen/ governor general does not do much, neither does the president of Ireland all she does is go around Ireland say hello greet foreign leaders when they come and live in Phoenix Park where the governor generals of Ireland used to live
Personally I feel Canada should stay a monarchy. Remember she is not just the Queen of Great Britain, she is the Queen of other countries too. This I think is a great honour bestowed upon any country.
Here in South Africa we are unfortunetly a Republic now and I tell you it is riddled with governemnt coruption via self gain through a President. At least having a Queen/King presiding over your country means the politicians must answer to someone other than just themselves.
@JasperLee23 any govenment under any party or system has its coruption. in canada we have the coruption due to the queen, and high tax as well because of the priminister. (unfortunantly we have a torrie government in with harper hand his goons.) now that being said iam neither for or against having a queen, or a king for that matter, but there is nothing to feel proud about being under a totallitarian government ruled under one head. have a good day, and cheers.
@JasperLee23 "Personally I feel Canada should stay a monarchy."
I used to, but it's increasingly clear to me the monarchy is not representative of modern Canada. It's something mostly ethnically British Canadians, or people who've been here a long time, identify with. But it's alienating to most French Canadians, and does nothing for new Canadians from other lands but re-enforce the sense that there's one ethnicity that comes before all others. I think it's time we had our own head of state.
@JasperLee23 personally I feel Canadians are balls less cowards who want to told what to do from their government instead of the other way round...you'r an embarrassment to North America... Obviously you don't have the strength and the backbone of the USA...." I feel Canada should stay a Monarchy".....what the fuck is wrong with you!!!????...God Damn your SO FUCKING WEAK
@JasperLee23 Oh yeah, you won't believe how great it is to have a monarchy! Paying taxes like crazy, having a non-elected head of the state, no gun rights, etc. Just look at North Korea, they are not officially a monarchy but the son of the previous leader is now in charge and seriously, North Korea makes South Korea a joke! That's how great monarchism is! Don't look at the skills of a person but look at their family members. It's so simple, I wonder why not all countries have a monarch.
The British monarchy is a sordidly outdated & antiquated institution. There are people in Britain itself who would like to see it go. All this cowering & fawning over blue-blooded aristocrats is sorrily obsolete!
Oh, and democracy is so stale and old now too. As is the English language, habeas corpus, and all that. To the rubbish heap with all that as well. Communism is what's hip!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
this is why canadians are shamefully apathetic and benign. sure we have "stability", access and freedom but our politics don't provide us with reason to participate.
In the 21st century UK=European Union and Canada(should)=Republic.
Okay. Now inform us of how the type of president will be decided on, how he will relate to provincial sovereignty, how he will be elected, how he will be more useful than the Queen, and how he won't spend taxpayers' money.
firstly i never said the president would be a "he". and secondly he would be more useful because they would actualy listen to the people of there country instead of spending all there time in a country on the opposite side of the world.
The Queen remains quite familiar with Canadian issues as she is in regular contact with the Governor General. Now, how about the rest of my questions?
what about the rest of your questions. the public would vote on who would be president and as for candidates i think that possibly the prime minister's would be the likely people to be voted for.
That doesn't answer everything I asked. You must have a plan and a way to implement the changes first, to convince all the provinces to go along with it, and, apparently, a way to have a president who doesn't spend tax dollars. It isn't merely about waving a magic wand and getting a republic.
Well, all right; as long as what I've said has cast doubt in your mind about your own position on the monarchy. As the institution is so useful that it's next to impossible to remove without severe consequences to the Canadian system of governance and fragile union, not to mention its key place in Canadian history and more subtle effects on the modern national psyche, or that the Queen is useful in a number of ways, you should seriously rethink what you've said you want and why you want it.
This is absurd. Canada + the UK have a long, rich history (including WWI + WW2). Newfoundland was given to them. Why spurn that now? The Queen is a nice, symbolic person. She doesn't do anything. I'd rather have the Queen be Head of State than Black Obama/Bush!! God Save The Queen
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Why doesnt canada stop fuckin around nd become a republic instead of an english colony they compete in the commonwealth games for fucksake more like the english empire fuckin games
The Queen is part of our identity. Why should we destroy who we are? It *is* our heritage. It provides us with direct links to Britain and 53 independent commonwealth states.
Need I also remind you that Japan is a constitutional monarchy? I could say the same things about your Emperor, however I know better than that. He still exists there for the same reasons our Queen exists here.
I really don't appreciate you insulting my country and the people who live here.
The Queen is nothing but a useless sack of potatoes, who wears flowerpots for hats, and the fact that you consider yourself proud of being part of a cult dedicated to mental retardation, makes me understand why Canada is seen as nothing but a mere puppet at an international level. Have a nice day being a royal ass ki... I mean 'Canadian'! XD
Very good. I appreciate you trying to anger me by incorrectly insulting my country further. You will not bait me into anger with your false information.
The truth is on an international level Canada is seen as a peacekeeping nation, a trustworthy nation, a fair nation, and an impartial mediator.
I will not pretend we are seen as a military power, like you. However, Canada is a strong economic power (hence our position in the G8) with a strong banking situation.
Silly little boy. Do you have any idea what would happen if we were to get rid of the queen? The governor general would become the president. She would have the same responsibility, the same amount of pay, and cost the Canadian people *more* money. Not only would we have to change everything that referenced royalty, we have to change every single badge, all of our coats of arms, our provincial flags, and we'd lose every tie we had to every commonwealth nation.
We'd also lose a giant chunk of our history and culture. Do not pretend to speak of something you know nothing about. It's kind of sad and makes you look very ignorant.
Monarchy is something a great nation like Canada can do without. Changes are a sacrifice worth taking in order to gain real respect and national identity. Being a royal ass kisser gives you none, and I'm glad to know that not all Canadians feel the way stupid loyalists like you do. And coming from a royal ass kisser, I'll take the 'ignorant' bit as a compliment. n_n
We don't need the monarchy. We just don't. We need to become a republic.

TheOmegaParadigm 8 months ago
@TheOmegaParadigm With no GG we would have another head of state to pay for.
They aren't paid by us and they're a revenue generator for the UK. Their family owns huge amounts of land in the UK that is used by the government and public without rent asked or paid. Those jewels are theirs by law. Their position is ceremonial and its a ceremony loved by many.
Most anti-monarchists are just Anglophobes who hate the fact that the UK is part of Canada's history. Its in the books, deal with it.
felswitch 8 months ago
@felswitch Can't say I hate the fact that Great Britain is part of Canada's history any more than I hate the fact it was part of the United States' history as well. I'm not preaching disdain for monarchism as a system of government, if that's what you think, I'm sorry that I may have mislead you. What I don't like is that the royal family is still held in such high regard despite the fact that they are unnecessary. They may own land, and I won't refute that, but they act as financial parasites.
TheOmegaParadigm 8 months ago
@TheOmegaParadigm I hear you. The idea of hereditary rule is almost universally recognized as a bad method of choosing leaders but they're not our leaders.
I guess I feel like we're at the point where we all know they're a historically relevant custom and see that they're not a threat to sovereignty or freedom.
felswitch 7 months ago
@felswitch I don't know if you know this, but the Queen of England is a symbol of oppression in many parts of the world. In India, they are a symbol of oppression. I am glad you are so happy to celebrate 200 years of enslavement of India.
You should join the Germans in celebrating Adolf Hitler. Oh wait...the Germans don't celebrate Hitler. Wonder why....
Mrparrot73 7 months ago
@Mrparrot73 They are free and sane to celebrate Angela Merkel (their current leader) just like I celebrate the current Monarch without it meaning I celebrate every chapter of its history. I would think an American would understand that.
India was never enslaved in any literal sense of the word.... I would have thought an American knew something about that too.
So are you ignorant or a liar?
felswitch 7 months ago
@felswitch Dude...the British dont celebrate the Queen in any ordinary sense of the word...it's appropriate to say they worship the queen and are required to worship the queen. And they dont just worship the queen, they swear allegiance to any and every person in her bloodline. The German national anthem is not a prayer for the personal well being of Angela Merkel. How could you possibly confuse an elected leader with someone who rules by "divine right"?
Mrparrot73 7 months ago
@Mrparrot73 When you swear allegiance to the queen's heirs and successors, there are no conditionals, are there? Doesn't it mean that if tomorrow Prince Charles were to declare that his personal dream was to make all Jews and blacks wear yellow stars, he still has your sworn allegiance?
Mrparrot73 7 months ago
@Mrparrot73 Fair point - See Edward 8th. A nazi sympathizing neurotic who constantly pissed himself, while at the same time was fucking a twice divorced hermaphrodite american man/woman (wallis simpson), whom he was obsessed with, yet she didnt give a shit about him.
Now thats monarchy.
HLecterPHD 5 months ago
@Mrparrot73 - what a STUPID point to make. If Charles were King he wouldn't even have the power to implement any law where "Jews and blacks wear yellow stars". The oath of allegiance is an oath to the people, of whom the Queen is the symbolic head. The Queen is the symbol of oppression?!? I don't see how her ancestor's actions has anything to do with her. If you had a Grandfather who was an axe murderer, what the hell would that have to do with you?
mrlopez2681 4 months ago
@mrlopez2681 Your point would be correct if the Queen was an elected ruler. The SOLE reason Elizabeth is accepted as queen of canada is BECAUSE her ancestors built the Empire. The Queen is a symbol of continuity with the imperial tradition AND has absolutely no other role than to emphasize and maintain that continuity. hence, when you embrace the imperial tradition, you must also accept the blame for the bloody trail of oppression central to that imperial tradition.
Mrparrot73 4 months ago
@mrlopez2681 Its like how you would feel about a modern Nazi. No modern Nazi has killed anyone, but if all he does is celebrate, advertise and promote the beauty of the holocaust, would you not despise him? The Queen has no role other than to celebrate, advertise and promote the history of British imperialism.

I don't see how adopting American ideals would somehow be more Canadian than what we have now.

agentm83 1 year ago
@agentm83 Actually you missed my point I said when "Canada gets rid of the British monarchy I'll agree with you." As in the non Canadian institution but the British one if you want to create a real Canadian monarchy that's up to you however the British Monarchy is British not Canadian which is the whole point of this video. So when Canada does away with the British institution than I'll agree that Canada is completely independent.
cwa1984 1 year ago 2
@cwa1984 Actually, legally she is the Queen of Canada, as well as the Queen of Australia, and New Zealand etc. So it is a Canadian monarchy, the monarch just happens to reside elsewhere. Besides that point, the fact is that she reigns but does not rule, we have been completely independent since the Statute of Westminster in 1931, and have had de facto independence to varying degrees since Confederation.
agentm83 1 year ago
@agentm83 1982 was the year Canada became almost completely independent of Great Britain. The only left to do is to gjust get rid of the British Monarchy. Since the monarch lives in Britain, is British, and is a symbol of Britain not Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. If you all want to continue monarchy that's up to you however calling the British Monarchy yours when they only visit every couple of years doesn't make any sense.
cwa1984 1 year ago
@cwa1984 Well, 1982 was when we made it more official with "Patriation" yes. I'm just saying that you can't claim that we're not independent when we've had self-governance for centuries.
agentm83 1 year ago
@agentm83 Your are independent however not 100% (no country is by the way) however you still have the British monarchy. I'd say your in the upper 90% like all countries are since no country is trully independent no matter what any of us might say or wish. However other countries I would say are more independent since they don't have a foreign head of state.
cwa1984 1 year ago
@cwa1984 Ohh you're an American. Ok that explains a lot, you guys often have a skewed view on Monarchies. Anyways, this is simply an argument over semantics at this point. We've been a country since 1867, and prior to that the separate colonies had self-governance for a while. We keep the "British" monarchy because we choose to, if we wanted to we could ditch it at any time if we could muster the political will to change our Constitution. If that isn't independence I don't know what is.
agentm83 1 year ago
@agentm83 That's really the point of this video that it should be changed since its not a Canadian institution and my point as well.

@dtkd100 I'd rather be running the U.S. right now than Ireland afterall the U.S. doesn't need a bailout like Ireland does. Also if you did you're actually homework instead of just copying and pasting you would know that each country measures things differently so you have to find the actually differences in how countries measure things before you make an accurate comparison but that would require you and organizations that put up these statistics to actually do some work.
cwa1984 1 year ago 4

Also do come up with something orginal to say instead of copying typical Eurotrash lines.
cwa1984 1 year ago
@cwa1984 I never mocked ur country, bt I didn’t point out how imperfect it is. And even if u only refer to the Republic, that is the half which is a REPUBLIC and needed a bail out. And if any country in Ireland is Britain’s Bitch that would be the North, but they didn’t need the bail out, so must be good to be the bitch of Britain. Euro trash to a yank is anyone who has travelled, university educated, doesn't own a gun and doesn’t have a picture of Bush or Sarah Palin on his wall to wank to.
dtkd100 1 year ago
@dtkd100 You came on here and immediately started mocking my country trying to post negatively about it than posted negatively about me as well. Your the one who started this not me. Also if you mean by the North as in Northern Ireland they are a part of the UK which currently doesn't need a bailout so that is stupid statement on your part. Eurotrash to an American is any dumbass European who talks shit about the United States while knowing jack shit about it that's why I called you eurotrash
cwa1984 1 year ago 3
@cwa1984 U cannot put any facts or figures to back up ur argument, while relying on insults and swear words to get urself out of a corner. U know nothing abt Europe so u must be white trailer trash, who shagged his sister and believes Fox News. So, take that England football shirt as it is insulting to most decent euro trash who do not want to be mistake for u. Additionally, I would rather be Euro trash then white Yankee trailer trash, as most euro trash have an education.
dtkd100 1 year ago
@dtkd100 Claiming I know nothing about Europe is pretty stupid on your part since you don't know where I was originally born or where my friends or family live. However you're continued sterotypical idiotic responses show you know absolutely nothing about the U.S. besides something you saw in some dumbass movies.
cwa1984 1 year ago
@cwa1984 When u use the paradigm that Canada should change bc it doesn’t make sense to u as an American, u leave urself open to people pointing out what is wrong with ur country.
For example, things which don’t make sense to me abt the US: has a copy of the East India Company's flag as its national flag, holds elections on a Tuesday (without a national holiday), uses an electoral college to elect its president and has bases all over the world bt denies it has an empire. Will u change these?
dtkd100 1 year ago
@dtkd100 Not really I just stated an opinion and responded to brit who was being a complete asshole just like you. Some things don't make sense to people from other countries like how Ireland was to fucking weak to break off from the British Empire even though they were getting massive funding to help them do so from Irish Immigrants in my own country. Also you have to be pretty fucking stupid to ask me to change U.S. foreign policy since I as an individual have no control over it.
cwa1984 1 year ago 4
@cwa1984 You can always pick the people on the net who have not have a good education. They are normally the ones who use swearwords or derogatory words towards others to win their argument. It is normally bc they lack the vocab to make a proper argument. Your argument is very problematic as 2/3 of Ireland did break away and only Northern Ireland or 1/3 if that is under British Rule. No, you don't control the US, but the "you" I used was acollective one, referring to all Americans and the US.
dtkd100 1 year ago
@dtkd100 First off before you try and go on about things you know nothing about like my education you should look at yourself in the mirror long and hard first and wonder if what you are saying actually applies to yourself and not others. Second off you insulted me and my entire nation in a comment when I was discussing one institution of Canada I didn't agree with. The only response I gave on here that was rude befire you came along was to some Brit who made a stupid comment about my nation.
cwa1984 1 year ago 3
@cwa1984 perhaps if u didnt go around talking shite abt peoples countries and their system government people would not be rude to u. And as u seem to be a right wing republican, here is some to think abt, the anti-monarchist in europe tend to be the leftist, tree huggers and hippies. People like u want to go around telling everyone else what is wrong with their countries but god forbid any say anything bad abt ur beloved republic.
dtkd100 1 year ago
@dtkd100 Perhaps if you minded your own goddamn business and actually read what I wrote instead of making dumbass remarks than you wouldn't get pointed as being a fool. Your last sentence is typical of eurotrash since you all fail to come up with something original because you all are uncappable of doing so. It's one thing to say no I don't like this institution its another to attack the entire nation which you did. I posted my thoughts about the monarchy without being an asshole like you.
cwa1984 1 year ago 3
@cwa1984 Let me conceptualise this for u. In the general discourse surrounding the monarchy, I have a right to express my opinion or defend the institution as I am a subject of HM. And the world is not a monolithic society which runs as American does or how u would want it to. Canadians have the right to conceptualise their country how they deem fit and so do the people of Australian, NZ, PNG and the British isles.
dtkd100 1 year ago
@dtkd100 I care about you being a subject of the queen because?

@dtkd100 I responded to an institution I think is outdated since it is a British Institution not a Canadian one. I didn't come on here and say Canada sucks and try to bad mouth the nation I made a comment about one particular thing I didn't agree with. The video posted on here doesn't agree with the monarchy either so I'm not trolling on here unlike you. That's something you should really think about that is assuming you are capable of doing so.
cwa1984 1 year ago 3
@cwa1984 The person who made this video is Canadian, and while I disagree with his opinion, he as a Canadian has the right to voice his opinion about his owncountry. U as a yank should not tell Canadians how to run their country, while ur country is far from perfect. I responded with things which are outdate or nonsensical about ur republic, bt to u what u say is fact and the truth, while anything said abt ur country is seen as mocking it or just wrong. U are a hypocrite of the first order.
dtkd100 1 year ago
@dtkd100 Me as an American whose country borders Canada has Canadian friends that think the institution is outdated and who generally share an interest in politics gave my opinion on the matter. Also again your sterotypical ranting about the U.S. and Americans just shows that you know nothing about the U.S. or Americans. You most likely watched some hollywood films which are the worst representation of the U.S. and Americans and think you actually understand the U.S. when you know nothing.
cwa1984 1 year ago
@cwa1984 American didn't eclipse Great Britain until after WWI, so 1776-1914 is how long it took for America to become more powerful than Great Britain. If anything it had more to do with the United States relative isolation and geography than it had to do with independence. And America never had the same Empire that Britain did. The USA can't even seem to control one country int he Middle East with oodles of technology and advanced weaponry. The British did it with muskets.
xpo50 1 year ago
@xpo50 The British also dealt with people who didn't have access to modern weaponry at the time either and the U.S. doesn't want to be like the British Empire. Geography defineately played a major role with the United States rise to power however the U.S. being independent helped greatly to since it enabled the U.S. to have extremely powerful industrial base something if the U.S. was still part of Britain I highly doubt would've happened.
cwa1984 1 year ago 2
@cwa1984 Compared to the weaponry America has access to, the insurgents are just as ill equipped. Furthermore, if America was a British colony the same industrial base would have been established, we look at Canada in late 19th century early 20th becoming the world's largest manufacturer of naval ships. the fact is that the colonizer has an interest in making their colony as economically prosperous as possible to make themselves as prosperous as possible. Industrialization is an inevitability.
xpo50 1 year ago
@xpo50 No the same industrial base wouldn't have been established. The reasons for it are the territory the U.S. acquired after winning the revolutionary war. Britain wouldn't have gone to war over Texas like the U.S. did so the United States wouldn't have acquired the South West. The Louisiana Purchase is up in the air the British might have gotten the land or France might have sold it to Spain or held onto long enough to sell it to Mexico instead.
cwa1984 1 year ago 3
@cwa1984 These are all mights, I mean many things might happen in history, but they didn't so it is really impossible to know. Britain might have won the revolutionary war if James Wolfe hadn't died during the Battle of Quebec. Britain might have fought all the same wars the Americans did and wound up with the same amount of land over the years. Britain and Spain were allies during the time of the Louisiana purchase so Napoleon would not want to aid his enemy.
xpo50 1 year ago
@xpo50 It's highly unlikely as in 99.99% unlikely that Britain would've fought the same battles the U.S. did. After all the British pissed off Americans before the revolutionary war by stopping them from going westward since the British didn't want to have to deal with the Indians and the British also wanted to create an Indian free state in Ohio to smooth tensions over so if the U.S. remained part of the British Empire it would be nowhere near as large and strong as it is today.
cwa1984 1 year ago 5
@cwa1984 well the fact is that if it had not been for Britain, America as you know it would never exist, to say America won its rights independently would be a mistake seeing as American politics were directly influenced by British politics. The American constitution was modeled off the British one andall the founding fathers were of British descent. And had Britain never colonized the East Coast, there would never have been a chance for Americans to conquer the West and fight any wars ever.
xpo50 1 year ago
@xpo50 If it wasn't for Britain the U.S. would not exist I haven't made argument against that because only a fool would try to make that argument. So I'm not getting the point of your post. As far as the U.S. Constitution goes it was influenced by Britain, Greece, Rome, and somewhat by the Iroquois as well.
cwa1984 1 year ago 2
@xpo50 Also there is the matter of Alaska as well which the United States purchased from Russia when the United States wasn't a world power which Britain was so I highly doubt Britain would've gotten Alaska from the Russians or that Britain would've wanted it. So no the U.S. wouldn't have been the industrial power that it became if it was still a colony under Britain. God only knows how the Pacific theater in WW2 would've played out not to mention the cold war as well.
cwa1984 1 year ago 4
@xpo50 As far as the weaponry goes IEDs weren't common place back in the days of the British Empire so no the insurgents aren't as ill equiped as you claim.

The US a completely independent nation??? ROFLMAO, with $12 trillion in foreign debts and $1.5 trillion in annual imports it's hardly to be called independent.
Powerful? Maybe, but only because it's the only country on the planet where it's tax payers are stupid enough to fund $720 million a day for their military.
pauluminous 1 year ago
@pauluminous Japan's debt is 200% of there GDP and yet they are still doing well. As far as imports go the U.S. imports a lot of low end end products tee shirts, toys, coffee makers, shit like that from countries like China because it is cheaper to make them in China vs producing them in the United States. The big thing the U.S. imports is alot of oil but than again so do several European nations. Japan has to literally import almost all of there energy sources unlike the U.S...
cwa1984 1 year ago 3
@cwa1984
I'm not all for globalisation so overseas trade and warfare to ensure that happening kinda goes beyond me.
pauluminous 1 year ago
@pauluminous If we go by your defination than no country on earth is independent (this is true to some extent and wrote that earlier on here as well) instead they are all slaves to each other. Forced trade agreements? The U.S. South Korea trade free deal went back and forth for years before compromises were made... you're talking out your ass when it comes to U.S. South Korea trading. Realpolitik is beyond you because you are fucking stupid.
cwa1984 1 year ago
@cwa1984
Keep the name calling for ur parents!
pauluminous 1 year ago
@pauluminous No it took a few years since it wasn't ratified in 2007 because a concensus wasn't reached and the U.S. trade representative Ron Kirk and his south korean equivalent did work on the project for quite a while and there was discussion on both sides after 2007 about a South Korea and U.S. trade deal so this has been years in the making. Also if you think the U.S. is getting fucked in the South Korea Free Trade agreement you need to look at Canada's trade talks with South Korea.
cwa1984 1 year ago
@pauluminous The rest of you post is nonsense which I can't say I'm surprised by.
cwa1984 1 year ago

SWOMARK 1 year ago
@SWOMARK Billions!? :D Canada already has a Canadian head of state - how could it not? - and it costs millions per year, for offices, residences, and security and travel associated with state duties, the exact same as it is for every other head of state on earth. Unless, you have a plan for the planet's first no-cost president?
gbambino 1 year ago
@gbambino Millions x5 years equals Billions, and I would much rather spend that on a true Representative, a Canadian Head of State. Not some Foreigner, again, who visits once every 5 years at Best! I respect our History but time for a change. So your response of upkeep offices, residence and security would be better spent in Canada rather than the UK, or who knows maybe Australia or NZ? I bet your excited about some English 28 year old foreigners wedding too? Dont worry your helping to pay!
SWOMARK 1 year ago
@gbambino "Canada already has a Canadian head of state - how could it not?"
By having a BRITISH one.
Cut the crap. When the Queen goes abroad, to the US or France or Germany, do you actually think the people there are saying, "Oh, look, there's the head of state of CANADA! There's the Queen of CANADA!" No, of course not. Most of them have no idea she has anything to do with us at all. Why would they? She's the Queen of England 1st, 2nd & last.
Time for someone who represents us 1st and only.

JasperLee23 1 year ago 4
@JasperLee23 any govenment under any party or system has its coruption. in canada we have the coruption due to the queen, and high tax as well because of the priminister. (unfortunantly we have a torrie government in with harper hand his goons.) now that being said iam neither for or against having a queen, or a king for that matter, but there is nothing to feel proud about being under a totallitarian government ruled under one head. have a good day, and cheers.
zoolpig 1 year ago
@JasperLee23 "Personally I feel Canada should stay a monarchy."
I used to, but it's increasingly clear to me the monarchy is not representative of modern Canada. It's something mostly ethnically British Canadians, or people who've been here a long time, identify with. But it's alienating to most French Canadians, and does nothing for new Canadians from other lands but re-enforce the sense that there's one ethnicity that comes before all others. I think it's time we had our own head of state.
PatchesRips 1 year ago
@JasperLee23 personally I feel Canadians are balls less cowards who want to told what to do from their government instead of the other way round...you'r an embarrassment to North America... Obviously you don't have the strength and the backbone of the USA...." I feel Canada should stay a Monarchy".....what the fuck is wrong with you!!!????...God Damn your SO FUCKING WEAK
mjw9363 1 year ago
@JasperLee23 Oh yeah, you won't believe how great it is to have a monarchy! Paying taxes like crazy, having a non-elected head of the state, no gun rights, etc. Just look at North Korea, they are not officially a monarchy but the son of the previous leader is now in charge and seriously, North Korea makes South Korea a joke! That's how great monarchism is! Don't look at the skills of a person but look at their family members. It's so simple, I wonder why not all countries have a monarch.

a president. that seens like the simpilest choice of action.
aglewi41 2 years ago
Okay. Now inform us of how the type of president will be decided on, how he will relate to provincial sovereignty, how he will be elected, how he will be more useful than the Queen, and how he won't spend taxpayers' money.
gbambino 2 years ago
firstly i never said the president would be a "he". and secondly he would be more useful because they would actualy listen to the people of there country instead of spending all there time in a country on the opposite side of the world.
aglewi41 2 years ago
The Queen remains quite familiar with Canadian issues as she is in regular contact with the Governor General. Now, how about the rest of my questions?
gbambino 2 years ago
what about the rest of your questions. the public would vote on who would be president and as for candidates i think that possibly the prime minister's would be the likely people to be voted for.
aglewi41 2 years ago
That doesn't answer everything I asked. You must have a plan and a way to implement the changes first, to convince all the provinces to go along with it, and, apparently, a way to have a president who doesn't spend tax dollars. It isn't merely about waving a magic wand and getting a republic.

look lets just agree to disagree ok. we both have reasonly decent arguments so lets just call it a day.
aglewi41 2 years ago
Well, all right; as long as what I've said has cast doubt in your mind about your own position on the monarchy. As the institution is so useful that it's next to impossible to remove without severe consequences to the Canadian system of governance and fragile union, not to mention its key place in Canadian history and more subtle effects on the modern national psyche, or that the Queen is useful in a number of ways, you should seriously rethink what you've said you want and why you want it.
gbambino 2 years ago
Believe me many people here in the UK don't want this inbred as our head of state either.
I would like Britain to be republic as well.
I have visited Canada many times and it is a lovely Country and it doesn't need to be part of the commonwealth nor does Australia and New Zealand.

Erivah 2 years ago
The Queen is nothing but a useless sack of potatoes, who wears flowerpots for hats, and the fact that you consider yourself proud of being part of a cult dedicated to mental retardation, makes me understand why Canada is seen as nothing but a mere puppet at an international level. Have a nice day being a royal ass ki... I mean 'Canadian'! XD
makokun9 2 years ago

Erivah 2 years ago
We'd also lose a giant chunk of our history and culture. Do not pretend to speak of something you know nothing about. It's kind of sad and makes you look very ignorant.
Erivah 2 years ago
Monarchy is something a great nation like Canada can do without. Changes are a sacrifice worth taking in order to gain real respect and national identity. Being a royal ass kisser gives you none, and I'm glad to know that not all Canadians feel the way stupid loyalists like you do. And coming from a royal ass kisser, I'll take the 'ignorant' bit as a compliment. n_n
