@cremeens100@cremeens100 The black chicken is a BLACK STAR purchased from the mcmurray hatchery (search pullets on their site and you should see it in the list) I have had my chickens in the coop for almost four years without any issues.
on the 1/2'' by 2'' going up it would make look a little better if you put a 1/4'' by 2'' and cover up where you sucured your chicken wire to the frame just an idea
Do you have to let the chickens out for exercise on a regular if not daily basis? It was my understanding that chickens need 'runs'. Or do you keep your chickens inside your chicken tractor all day?
I am building one of these right now based on your video. I think I've got it all figured out just by watching, but I do have a few q's. If you would care to discuss, pls email me. First q: what's the wheel axle made of? Thank you. Robin in NC
All the best with your chicken tractor build. The wheels are from a Big Wheel and the axle is simply two carriage bolts (one for each wheel). Hope this helps you!
Yes it should be warm enough for your winter. You may also add a flood light for extra heat. I also use a heated dog water dish in the winter (it automatically turns on when the temp is below 32F). I simply use straw in the winter (upstate NY)
wow. i was thinking of a chicken coop last night when i was about to fall asleep. your chicken coop is what i was EXACTLY visualling. i have 7 chicks and im gonna make a bigger version of yours
Excellent! Nice post. There is also a book titled: The Chicken Tractor... shows how a portable coop may be used as an effective garden tool.. prep and fertilization. Also, a resource for learning to hatch and raise your own chickens a DVD titled Regarding Chickens 3HRS long. Kids never forget these experiences.. you're doing a wonderful job there! Setting a great example.
Thanks - great info! Our son loves taking care of the chickens. He has learned so much about be self sufficient and going green. He also loves those eggs!
Thanks. I really like your coop design too - one of the nicest I've seen - it was just a little bog for my needs, so I designed and built my own. We just got our first brown eggs today.
Thank you

Would this be a warm enough home in, say, Colorado winters? Is there a perch within the house?

This is what I want to build, just a little bit bigger. Is a coop that size suitable for 4 chickens?
LastRide90 3 years ago
The coop should be able to house 4 medium size hens.
