Oh yeah, you folks know it all!!! Keep knockin' all the greats....there can only be "one" I guess! All these other mothers just wasted everyone's time......c'mon, give me a break.
This is a tribute to the blues. It's not even about Eric but rather his homage. I appreciate those who pay homage, not so much those who just hurl insults.
@ptij0404 For all the Clapton lovers, everyone can pick their favorite,, but I agree Clapton is overrated and boring,,, Page, Beck, Hendrix, Buddy Guy, Brian May and others put him to shame !!!! I myself think NOBODY,,, BUT NO BODY can stand up to Stevie Ray Vaughan !!!!!!!!!!! I don't care if you agree or not,, I could care less,,, Its MY personal view and NOTHING could change it !!!
If Eric Clapton is so overrated then how come BB King, Buddy Guy, Muddy, etc.... have been playing with him since the star of his career? I guess they just have bad taste then?!?!?!
@SKAuthenticDank Especially in the blues realm. Hell, there are even better white players than him. Michael Bloomfield, Peter Green, Stevie Ray Vaughan obviously, etc. Clapton is overrated.
Eric Clapton learned and submitted to the study of the root-source of blues, the original black blues singers; thus Eric Clapton was taught by God and he then became The Son of God. Let us keep the hierarchy in its proper place, and not forget where Eric got it from. And indeed, the Son is like unto the Father and are one and the Same.
@kalpubinc Loved your comment. Yes, the Son is like unto the Father and are one and the Same, and so is his Sister and whoever shall say it not shall fly high in the sky like a burst balloon and Eric felt that wherever God is he is not there but is somewhere else that cannot be found for he is unfindable and Eric was very sad about this and began thinking that he was an atheist and thought it good but many people thought it not so good so Eric thought some more and decided to take a shit.
@barekallmeg "Rollin' Stone". The Rolling Stones took their name from this song. Muddy uses the same guitar riff for "Still a Fool" which is even better.
@chechecomm It's just the way you see it, for me it's Chuck Berry and Elvis just riped off his songs and the media favorited him becouse he was white.
Thank u for these uploads, im gratefull as im useing the info for a collage project as im studying for a music producer, in turn i will go into teaching and as sure as we stars in the sky i will pass the knolage on so its not forgotton.
I've heard Eric say his greatest influence is.......Buddy Guy,,,,heard him say Robert JOhnson, heard him say Muddy Waters, lol........changes all the time
@CletusColtrane In this documentary in Part 1 he says that Muddy Waters was "the first who shook me up" and in part 2 he says that robert johnson was "the first thing that shook me up"
I just read on the Layla video that he went into a racist anti-black rant back in 1976. Man, Eric, say it isn't so my man. I checked into it and it is true as the day. What do I do with all my Eric Clapton vinyls now? I don't want to support a racist but the things he said were pretty bad - actually awful. He said blacks had no place in white Britain. What would Bob Marley think? Man my head is in a spin and my gut is just punched man. Eric man, not you! Racism sucks. I'm crushed.
Although I understand the incredible skill and dedication involved I have never deeply enjoyed music that was 'depressing' ' Oh my life is so hard' type of thing. I have the deepest respect for Blues musicians, but far too much of it has an incredibly sad or miserable connotation - maybe it's 'cathartic'? Later of course wallowed in by groups such as The Smiths and incredibly irritating singers such as Michael Bolton - whom I desparately wanted to put an end to his constant and incessant misery.
The part at the end when Clapton and Guy are jamming; Buddy throws his head back and “feels” the blues. Eric sees this and thinks “ok, let me show you that I can roll with the big boys too.” So then he closes his eyes and feels the blues as well. They’re both able to tap in to the spirit of the blues. Blues harmony.
@casu3 - Eric Clapton has played blues with basically every important blues player that been alive since he started and done a whole album with B.B. King.. I'd say Eric Clapton knows more about the blues than most men alive.
@casu3 I think all music is real music as long as somebody likes it. But I get what you are saying. You can't fake blues. Basically anyone can become a popstar (the two latest decade has proven that over and over) but blues isn't about the show or actual instrumental skill it's about having a certain feeling. Just like Punk is about having a certain attitude. If you don't you got the attitude it's not punk. It's just pop/rock or something alike.
its interesting when you see the old black and white footage...everything looks so old: the clothes, the hair styles...everything BUT the guitars...timeless.
That Buddy Guy clip is all there is to it...early Buddy Guy is scorching...he kills everyone...nobody else plays like that...I'm biased because I adhere to the "Buddy Guy is God" school
@musiccuts Really?! I never got any feeling from him. What did he do that made you want to call him a God. Did he innovate? Was he a good imitation? If he was Black would he be just another Blues artist?! I'm not trying to be a d%^&, i'm just trying to figure out why???
Probably one of the best quotes I have ever heard. Did you come up with it yourself? I told my friend this and he about fell down he thought it was so clever!!
