I'm 65 years old and the most wonderful event I can remember during my lifetime was the Apollo missions to the moon. I was saddened that the political will to continue this great adventure was sidelined in favor of the pursuit of better ways to make war and kill people.

Spoke to a NASA engineer, he said NASA didn't do anything, launches were done by contractors, who are STILL doing that work. Nasa was just a giant hole sucking in billions of dollars.
Im so dissapointed in the US government, those idiots are spending hundreds of billions of dollars every year in the war for oil in the middle east, which now cost 4 dollars, and by 2025 are expected to cost $15, instead of spending that money on developing better space shuttles that will mine the moon for it's resources, and restablelize the economy, I don't know what those idiots are thinking! And it's not Obama's fault!

I guess Cheney-Bush didn't think that far ahead so now we'll have to pay the Russians for access to the space station until we find another way to get there.

SpaceX has accomplished more with half a billion dollars than constellation did with over 10 billion. Ares I was way over budget and its underperformance caused 4 redesigns of Orion which wasted billions of dollars. Looking ahead to the future, the Stick would not have flown until 2018ish and Ares V, don't even get me started. Constellation is what happens when you have one or two politically connected contractors driving everything.

So what they showed was uneven terrain can cause parallel shadows to apparantly diverge when view from a horizontal position.

@bieasy........your boy Dubya canceled the shuttle program, not the current administration.......just like Cheney canceled the F-14 Tomcat, during Bush 1's administration, so Cheney's buddies could rake in the dough with it's replacement. The only problem with the shuttle is that they didn't have a replacement in place quickly this time. I guess Cheney-Bush didn't think that far ahead so now we'll have to pay the Russians for access to the space station until we find another way to get there.

SpaceX has accomplished more with half a billion dollars than constellation did with over 10 billion. Its only 2 years before Falcon Heavy arrives with more lift capacity than anything since the Saturn V.

@bieasy I don't care for the fuzzy sort of philosophy that all viewpoints are equal. Constellation was a terrible plan from a strictly engineering perspective. Ares I was way over budget and its underperformance caused 4 redesigns of Orion which wasted billions of dollars. Looking ahead to the future, the Stick would not have flown until 2018ish and Ares V, don't even get me started. Constellation is what happens when you have one or two politically connected contractors driving everything.

@bieasy Obama isn't brainless, he has different priorities than other presidents like JFK. For instance, during JFK's presidency, the US was in a cold war with Russia, and the space race btween the 2 nations were the priority, & they were not in a recession. The space shuttle program hasn't really improved or given any advancements in the last 30 yrs, so the billions of dollars spent on it is useless at this point. Instead, NASA is helping individual companies to develope their own spacecrafts.

There are many private groups that would like to make space happen. However they lack people and funds to make it all happen.

For example they showed that apparent non-parallel shadows are possible with a single light source, disproving the theory that the photo of two non-parallel shadows cast by rocks must have been lit by multiple light sources, i.e. stage lights. Quite simple really.

@ed11561 FGS just look at the facts and look at them with an unbiased view! What they showed was that lunar terrain can exist in a way which would cause shadows to diverge. They were manipulating the terrain meticulously to acheive exactly the same effect as the example photo, but a huge number of possible layouts could simply cause them to diverge in any direction. So what they showed was uneven terrain can cause parallel shadows to apparantly diverge when view from a horizontal position.
