@KellyGreen5555 Yea pretty much, they probably did it as more of a favor. I had a feeling it would be bad since Neil Marshall was only the executive producer.
i dont see why everything has to be perfectly accurate or realistic these days.....there wouldnt be fat girls in this movie because they wouldnt want to do anything active and they wouldnt fit in the cave :DD
I am extremely critical of horror movies and I loved the Descent! If you are clausterphobic at all... it should be terrifying!! Some of the effects were a bit cheesey... but I thought the story line was good also. Little bit of origional spice to a genre getting pretty tired this year.
It's a horror, and most if not all horrors, are quite predictable because something will always make you jump, and you learn to expect the unexpected.
hah, not true. fat people die in horror films. the chubby female hitchiker in friday the 13th 2, for instance, or the jokester in Ft13th 3... lemme see, the camera guy in Scream was chubby... one of the few victims in Nightmare on Elm Street 5 (whatever one was the Dream Child) died from eating too much... etc
Except, the BWP wasn't original. It was ripped off of a film called "The Last Broadcast" about a news crew that disappears investigating the legend of The Jersey Devil.
Yeah, but the difference is that "The Cave" wasn't tense, wasn't even a little bit scary and you couldn't relate with characters, even a bit. "The Descent" had it all and succeeded - it's a very well made movie and one of the best horrors of XXI century, period.
"The Cave" was made few months earlier but it doesn't mean anything. Those movies have only similiar premises.
I respect your thoughts about this movie, but i don't understand why are you upset about realism in "The Descent"? I know very little about spelunking, but overall, it's just a horror movie. It didn't have to be realistic. They focused on psychological aspects, acting and building atmosphere - and that's what counts in a horror movie. It's not a document.
Oh I agree the two movies aren't too alike, but neither are the Blair Witch Project, and the "Last Broadcast."
The problem from my perspective is that I couldn't find the movie believable with the way the climbers acted in situations.
Another thing that was just strange is I knew exactly when something would jump out, and I have no idea why. It got to the point where I could countdown from ten, and sure enough when I reached zero something would pop out.
Basically, I always "talk" about the movies I watch in my head, because I am sort of trying to improve my abilities in reviewing and detecting good media, so when she fell into that sea of blood or red water, I pretty much said "bla bla bla, there's a monster in the water by the way, bla bla bla".
Not Really, there was a huge difference, The Last Broadcast was documentary style, this was moreso government footage style. Thought it was it's grandfather, the Blair Witch Project really didnt rip off The Last broadcast at all. That's like saying 300 ripped off Ben Hurr. No way, plus, the ending to the BWP made it so much more original. There are over 25 logistical documented theories about the ending.

Actually, Sarah and Juno didn't die. They came back in the descent part 2. And it cant be proven they died in the second either

@mikeanikeforever The sequel is beyond horrid. I marvel that the two original actors signed on.

haha, and the descent had pretty much been done a year before it came out..."The Caves" ring a bell anyone?

mortelle666 3 years ago
oops about misspelling it the caves.
Well, I personally thought both the movies were awful, the both had extremely stupid stories, and were not very well made.
This opinion is coming from someone who knows a lot about spelunking, most of what happened in that movie was idiotic.
As for the reason I posted the comment, I was proving the point that the descent wasn't a very original movie.

I am glad you liked it though, I can see how the twist at the end is actually quite well done, but I just didn't like how the movie unfolded.
