Actually 14stonecold, these new characters are actually much older than Bowser Jr. I believe their first appearance was back in Super Mario Bros. 3, while Bowser Jr. originated in Mario Sunshine (unless I'm mistaken) I'm a bit of a mario history nut :P

They are very exciting characters though!

Yeah, as far as I know, Bowser Jr. was a new addition in Sunshine... I've at least seen all the main Mario games (the Super Mario Bros. series, the 3D ones like Sunshine, Galaxy, etc.) and as far as I can remember that's where Jr. started.
