  • I SHOULD'NT HAVE LISTEN TO THE SONG (SAD MEMORIES) I VOL TO GO THERE 3 TIMES AND WAS THEIR AT 18...NOBODY WINS IN A WAR...OUR GOV ONLY USES OUR SOLDIERS, THEN THROWS THEM AWAY WHEN THEIR NO LONGER USEFUL...THE HIPPIES WERE RIGHT TO PROTEST THE WAR, BUT NOT FOR RUNNING AWAY...MY FRIENDS DIED FOR NOTHING....I DON'T KNOW WHAT WEAPONS WE WILL USE IN WW3, BUT IN WW4 IT WILL BE STICKS & STONES......NOW IN MY OLD AGE I'VE LEARNED THAT I HAVE 2 HANDS, ONE FOR HELPING MYSELF AND OTHER FOR HELPING OTHERS

  • "When civilized man can no longer stand the horrors of war and declares he can no longer fight, they will surely be killed or enslaved by the uncivilized who can."

    Thanks for the video.

    E Co. 2/3 Marines 1969

  • I served as a corpsman with H 2/7 1st Mar Div 67 68. Vietnam is whear I learned to distrust the government of the U.S. The troops who served were betrayed by the pull out, But the people of vietnam had the worst of it. We lost our last chance to crush comunisim. I think we have become a nation of candy assed pussys. Thanks for the tribute live in peace and don't trust the government.

  • The real heroes of Vietnam were the draft evaders.

I wish they would bring back the draft. I would of course evade it, and post videos of my living the sweet life as drafted fuckups get killed.

  • Thank you Vietnam Veteran for doing your best. You will always have my respect and for that, I salute you.

  • Brilliant, very moving, also love reading the posts by those that have been or had relatives involved. I served in the British Army for 6 years within reconnaissance, queens div , and understand the feeling of brotherhood and the love and respect amongst soldiers. I have nothing but respect for anyone that has served their country in conflicts.

  • Without the Air Cavalry god knows what the end toll would have been .. 1st Cavalry Div.

  • I'm in tears. Such a moving thing you've created.

  • I was moved to tears, it is beautiful! Thank you so much :)

  • well done.....

  • This song is in my opinion the most evocative song of what it must have been like for the poor guys on the ground in Viet- Nam. It sums up all the emotions they must have went through. suggest another song to cover all the wars John Foggerty`s, De Javu all over again

  • I weep watching this, and hearing that song. I was Navy, but my god I respect my Marine brothers - You cannot understand this unless you have worn the uniform. Is there anyone who deserves a tear more than those men from us?

  • Thank you Dad(WWII,Korea,Vietnam-AF,Dad F-Army(WWII),Ron(30 yr CMSGT-AF,Steve-AF, and to Joy still serving-AF! To all unnamed who served and ARE serving..and who do NOT deserve a pay cut!

    Thank you for everything.

  • Suprised no ones made this for the FF nad PD who were lost on 9-11

  • My husband Dave is a vet... This is his song to all of his brothers and sisters..

Much love to our brothers and sisters...... We pray for all our military family..

  • like it:P

  • So poinant today. When we all get our shit together?

  • If America had not involved the war, South Vietnam would have fallen into communism in 1954 and more Vietnamese would have been murdered in cultural revolutions like those launched by Mao in China (20 million deaths) and Khmer Rouge in Cambodia (2 millions)

Total Vietnamese democide by communists:1,040,000 (1975-87) by HCR

    Executions: 100,000

    Camp Deaths: 95,000

    Forced Labor: 48,000

    Democides in Cambodia: 460,000

    Democides in Laos: 87,000

    Vietnamese Boat People: 500,000 deaths.

  • Thanks Dad, ..........I wish I had known you better.

  • What was your uncle Pete's last name? What f-4 unit was he with? I was there in 65 and again 66-67. Thanks for the video. Semper Fi

  • @x666dog, three tours, my hat goes off to you sir. Respect!

  • Actually it was only two tours. We went in country in 1965. Second tour started inDec 1966 and was over by Aug 1967.

  • God Bless all Vietnam veterans.

  • "we started at Parris Island..." WOW. great song Billy, thankx, Kilo 3/11

  • @BoyishlyCuteBritYank I remember the feeling I got the first time I heard that song, especially those choppers coming in. This song spells it all out, but you had to be there to understand. I was proud to serve with the marines in Nam, but I wish it never happened.

  • Another song is Barry Sadler Ballad of the green beret.

  • A song you could use is Barry Sadler Letters From Veitman, hope this helps you. Take care and God Bless.

  • Thank you for your suggestions! God Bless.

  • I rarely watch this type of video, preferring to leave my memories of that time lost in the corners of my mind. But something egged at me to watch this one. I can't begin to explain why, but I knew I had to watch it. Not far into this clip, I was shocked at seeing myself and my old squad. It hurt, flooding me with emotions and pain I hadn't felt in years. And the sweet memory of brothers, all gone now but for me.

Thanks for posting this. Semper Fi, my brothers, and rest in peace.

  • I am sorry for losses and the suffering you have gone through. You are very welcome for this video. Thank you for your comment.

  • CherokeeParts1, My fiance's father was in nam in the marine corp. gratefully he made it back from nam but only to find out years later he had cancer due to agent orange, he lost his fight in 1997 when my fiance was 17. My fiance is wanting to find people that my have known his father or served with him. He wants to know more about his father. His fathers name was Wade Jackson Williams, if by chance you knew him please let me know. Thank you and God bless.

  • @CherokeeParks1 i know how you fell just asking what unit

  • my granpas best friend died over in nam in my g pas arms. fuckin sad

  • People please don't argue the Vietnam War or if we should have been there. The fact is we were and many Americans died. I was in the USMC for 5 years and a SGT. Until you have worn a uniform, held the hand and looked into the eyes of a person whos life is leaving their eyes and watched as the took in the last breath of air, do not minimize anyones death or sacrafice for others no matter what the cause.

  • Don't you forget about the Vietnamese people please; a lot of them died as well, and why?

  • That spitting nonsense was just a myth, another way to blame the hippies for a war that never should have been fought.

  • I would like you and all other people who read this to know that all though you may feel this way and whether or not that is true, I will not stand for fighting on my video. I am trying to head off any arguments that may start from this. Please to not argue on my video's comments or I will stop all comments.

  • @Rolandzebub "Myth" my ass. That's what YOU bastards would like to revise history into. My Father was there & upon returning through the San Francisco Airport in Uniform, had SEVERAL of YOUR Kin

dare to sling their Snot upon him & his uniform. AND, He was far from the only one. Yer NO-Different than those AssWipes that try to revise the truth regarding Hanoi Jane. But, I REMEMBER. I KNOW The TRUTH! & I WILL BE DAMNED Before I let a single one of YOU Bastards erase that part of YOUR

    History.

  • @ancientastronomer Yeah, it was those dirty hippies who screwed your dad, not the politicians or the war profiteers who sent them off to die for "freedom."

  • @Rolandzebub Hey AssWipe, For better or for worse. Right or wrong. My father VOLUNTEERED.

Yes, Personally I agree that the Polititians and so-called Profiteers,( Rockefeller for one ) are without a doubt, the fecal-matter of the Earth. However, IN NO WAY did that give the right for the "Hippies" to perform as they did. Realistically speaking; WHAT doe's ANY 19 Yr old kid know about World-Politics or the Lords of War? He merely thought he was doing what was the "Right" thing to do for his Nation

  • @ancientastronomer If you want to blame the hippes, go ahead. You want to call me an AssWipe? Go ahead. Just another Internet tough guy. The fact is, I don't give a shit about you or your jarhead dad. Have a nice life.

  • @Rolandzebub ...LOL...and where doe's that leave you? Just another Internet AssHole. For some-

one whom claims to not give a shit, YOU are the fuckin Anally-Birthed-Piece of DogShit AssWipe

attempting to revise historical fact with YOUR GODDAMNED LIES. FUCK YOU & THE RECTAL-ORIFACE THAT BIRTHED YOU.

  • I am sorry to you and anyone else who wants to know about the helicopter. I do not know what type of helicopter it is. but thank you for your comment! :)

  • Anyone who has been to Nam will recognize the sound of those rotors. That is definately a Huey (UH 1). I will always remember that sound. The Huey was used for Medevac, Troop Transport, and Gunships to escort the Transport choppers. I don't believe the Comanche was around during the war.

  • i disagreed with the vietnam war but i salute to the soldiers who fought there unlike the hippies who spit on them.

ps.what about the army they fought to!

  • army did shit in vietnam

  • No one spit on me. Had they have tried they would have been spitting their teeth out for a week.

  • As I stated before, That story about returning Nam Vets being spit on is highly exagerated. I remember hearing only one news story of that happening. I guarentee you anyone spitting on a returning Vet would have the shit kicked out of them for sure. No matter how big or how many. Those hippies would have flowers planted up their ass instead of in their hair. USMC NAM 66-67

  • semper fi and thanks marines

  • Where did you find the song

    I love it

  • Thanks for your offer GI's. Thanks for our free Europe. For our free world.

  • The helicopter in the beginning... is that a Comanche... or something that sounds like that?

  • Geat song - Great lyrics too.

    Salute

  • Written for Viet-Nam era troops, but I'll tell you this song it timeless and aches just as much for those of us fighting the current wars. Whether it was a good idea or a bad idea is not up to us, our job us just to fight. Praying for the 4 I burried, the 6 wounded, and the others who made it out, just to go back in.

  • My dad was in Viet Nam during the Tet Offensive...what a beautiful memorial you have made!

  • The thing I hated is sitting at home and hearing the news how many of our soliders died, its ashamed

  • i was in Viet Nam in 1965 - 1967, great song

  • Thanks for your service.. Im a Marine that was in falluja from 2004-2005.. Semper fi!

  • i just joined the marines im 17 going to boot camp march 26 2010 cant wait to claim the title of a united states marine great video thanks for serveing. semper fi OORAH!!!!!!!!!

  • my grandpa fought in nam. and now my bro is in the navy i dont want to lose him

  • My dad was an officer in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. He retired in 1980 and when the US invaded Iraq for the first time he said " WW2 was defending our country, those other wars were nothing but a way for politicians to get good men killed for their agenda, never again".

He passed away and was buried with military honors 4 years ago and his grave marker proudly shows his service for our country in three wars.

Now he is with his friends he saw die in combat over the years.

  • squizzoo,

Your dad was AMVETS veteran as my dad was..WWII under Patton, Korea, and Vietnam. My dad cried when he saw how the Vietnam soldiers were spit on coming back to the states. No one knew crap about how the soldiers fought in Vietnam against the enemy of soldiers, civilians(sacrificing their babies with grenades in their diapers thrown at the landed helicopters) men coming out of tunneled holes in the ground as you walk by to get shot in the back, etc.

  • Our American Soldiers in WW II were some of the bravest men to ever go to war. Likewise the Americans who fought in Viet Nam were among the best and bravest this country has sent to war. As for being spit on when we returned, I think that story was blown way out of proportion.

I remember hearing a story on the news one time about that happening, but it was not a common occurence. True we weren't treated with much respect, but if anyone spit on me I would kick the shit out of them. OOORAH1

  • squizzoo, My dad is still here 83 and is sane..I don't know how. I am proud of him and of you dad too. He and your dad are HEROS!!! I already have the grave marker for the AMVETS soldiers due to a past job where we did military plagues from start to finish. GOD BLESS OUR US soldiers and GOD BLESS the USA!

  • Respect 2 the people who fought in the vietnam, I also love the music which was made that time... perfect!

  • I'd just like to say thanks to everyone who fought in vietnam. I'm 28 yrs old and I've seen alot on tv about the war and heard stories from veterans, for the recognition and thanks that you didn't get , I wish people weren't so ignorant and ungrateful back then and I'm very sorry for that. This war will never be forgotten and neither will your service. Words cannot describe the emotion from this video. I commend and respect everyone who ever served and wish you all the best. u made the diference

  • no, i dont think billy joel actually served in the war

  • did Billy serve in the war?

  • @papillonluver0333 I don't believe Billy Joel was in the military, but he must have had some good info to be able to write this song.

  • @robshannon pretty much

  • Hi No he was never in military, as soul provider for his mother and sister he could opp out and did so.

  • Billy was from Hicksville, Long Islland. I lived in Carle Place, two towns away. I saw him in Christiano's Restaurant in Syosset a couple times years ago. The last time I saw him was about 4 years ago

at Anthony's Pizza in Oyster Bay. I guess he likes Italian food.
