The US could have plenty of money for projects like this. Waste and abuse of our safety net social programs has reached epic proportions, then couple that with a foreign policy that is beyond our scope and incompetent leadership in Washington. Shame on us.
Rio de Janeiro. I am disappointed with that situation. In case it was able to would send e-mails to the Congress yankee, asking that its didn't cut the budget of James Webb. That would be pitiful. They should have guest more countries as partners, like Japan, Russia or even China. Now NASA this the edge of the cliff. All humanity will be punished.
Thank You. It's very hard to shame the mostly empty suits deciding things these days... But it's important to note that these mirrors are already done along with their back structure & much the rest of the craft & that ESA has an Ariene 5 & 2 of the main instruments all but waiting. We've bailed out incompetent banks where the income of several board members would cover the "over-runs". Etc., i guess...
Let them know the James Webb Telescope will help science understand alot more about the beginnings of the universe and allow us to directly image planets orbiting other stars.
We can't afford spend to billions or even millions on space explaration and science but we sure can afford to spend trillions of our grandchildrens money killing people oceans away. Every one of these wars went over budget but I don't see us scrapping them. I have no problem with private industry either, they took my tax money too... where ARE they? The Hubble has been the best "Bang-for-buck" deal NASA ever did and now we want to scrap the Webb? Might as well scrap NASA and leave it all!

I agree that other nations will not only catch up to the US, but in many cases, pass it!

Some of my favorite Hubble images. I can't imagine what the Webb will show. Thank you! Consider it shared!
