Cheers matey! The 142, 143,144 and the 164 were the choice of the fridge man. Granted, the FH handled better, and any honest man who drove by the seat of his pants often wished for the handling of the Volvo, combined with the power of the Scania V8, Anyone who thinks different couldn't have been there. I can't speak for earlier or later models, as these are (largely) outside my experience. As for other marques, they were never an option. The Scania's still the king. XXX

i was going up shap one night in the middle lane , my 143 took a bit of an engine lull , i hoped sheed keep going got as far as penrith , a few guys gave me a hand , we took of the air filter , what was stuck inside it , but an ERF , Cant beat them 143s

climbing up the blanc the only 14 litre to have was the mighty cummins could co with 6 pots what takes scania 8

And what SCANIA could do with 10 gears a cummins needed a eaton ts 12 speed or a rto 13 speed to keep them revs screaming cos when they have gone a cummins as no torque.

our motors had 9 speed roadranger boxes not twin splitters or 13 speeders like I said cummins was the 14 litre to do the job the 142 I operated was a good motor but I made far more money running big cummins and cat powered lorries than any of the scanias I had after the 141
