NIce smooth job they did of covering for the guy's "Y" / "Z" screwup! Just ad-lib a couple of quick remarks and keep right on going, no point in starting another take when they're nearly at the end!
Gonna have to take Grover's side this time. Just eat the dang soup while it's hot! All letters taste the same. At least time Grover brought you what you wated without screwing up.
So THIS is their first encounter. XD Heh heh, classic. Its funny how their roles started out and ended up switching. I'd like to play a character like that, where I start off as the victim but end up becoming a kindly sort of antagonist. *snerk*
@animationeer: "If I had been the waiter, I would have just left TWO letters in his alphabet soup: F and U." *snicker* Not a bad idea for a YouTube Poop of this sketch!
LOL!I love that line, because,I agree with him 100%!Poor Grover!I work in a grocery and I know exactly what he's going through!I've gotten a few weirdos myself!LOL!
This is the first time. So Fat Blue probably annoyed grover so much this one time that Grover decided he would follow fat Blue wherever he goes messing up his orders.
The sad thing is that there are really people like Fat Blue, being that I worked in a restraunt for 10+ years. To be fair, however, you also have your share of Grover-like waiters.
After seein' this one I don't feel sorry for the way Grover treats Fat Blue. It seems he's going out of his way to be an anal jerk in this skit. Love the old SS! No educational show can touch this and that includes the current SS.
I remember this episode like it was yesterday even though I can't remember what ACTUALLY happened yesterday! Thanks for posting, it bring backs a lot of memories.
Hmmm, I remember from my childhood Grover always driving the blue guy crazy. I guess the blue guy got his payback once in a while. =D I mean... who expects there to be one of every letter in alphabet soup? XDDD
I have been watching Sesame Street since I was a little kid. This brings back so many memories. I have always wondered why puppets faint every time they get frustrated? LOL!!
This kit and other "Grover and Fat Blue" excerpts reminds me of the customer service bits in BBC's "Fawlty Towers." I'm laughing along with your comment, mmmaddix. I also think that in "Fawlty Towers" that Basil is a server's worst nightmare from my point of view. Only, Basil makes a fool of himself and is in a grumpy mood when he gives customers a hard time. Double LOLs
Basil is certain Manuel's worst nightmare! Ha ha ha. Que? Que? Basil is such a snot to the customers and the staff. The only one he isn't snotty to is his wife, because he's afraid of her. Except he is a snot to here when she is right next to him but not looking. That show cracks me up! Hey, grover is kinda like Manual. LOL
He is kinda like both Basil and Manuel because of his literal, happy mood he's in when he gives Mr. Johnson a hard time. One animated character in "Sesame Street" that's like Maunel from "Fawlty Towers" is the bellhop who's dressed in red. Did you see the bellhop excerpts about counting? I did. The difference is that bellhop remembers the number instead of what he's supposed to be doing.
I think alot of my personality comes from Grover in these skits. ie: no patience for pinheads. These were always my favorite seseme st. bits as a kid. If you have any with Grover with the cab driver doing the same kinda thing I'd really appreciate it.
I think it'd be better if you add in two other Jerry Nelson characters, the Count and the Amazing Mumford.. Think of it:
Mr. Johnson: "There's a J missing in the soup."
Count: "1! 1 missing letter! Ha-ha-ha."
Amazing Mumford: "I can fix that. A LA PEANUT BUTTER SANDWICHES! (He waves his wand, J magically appears in either the soup, or in the kitchen so that Grover can bring it out and put it in the soup)
@gameshowguy2000: Oh heck yeah...this sketch is already funny as is, but your rewrite would've been over-the-top hilarious (especially with the blooper-reel potential: imagine Mr. Johnson complaining about the missing J in the Count's accent, followed by the director hollering CUT!)
Haha, this is halarious. I work in the resturant business, and get anal customers like the blue guy all the time. LOL..."it's a bad day for you isn't it sir?" hehe, I have to use that line. :p
The Count has to obsessively count everything in sight. And THIS guy can't eat alphabet soup without all the letters in it at the same time. What's up with all the OCD on Sesame Street?
Imagine what would happen if the Count and Big Blue (both voiced by Jerry Nelson) were in the restaurant at the same time. That's enough to even give Grover a headache!
Interesting how Grover and Johnson basically switched roles over time. From "Grover the hardworking waiter can never satisfy Johnson the finicky customer" to "Johnson the innocent customer always victimized by Grover the incompetent waiter."
