  • Hahahahaha i love sesame street!! :D

  • Charlie must really like Grover if he keeps making mistakes for fat blue.

  • Waiter! Waiter! there's 'P' in my soup!

  • NIce smooth job they did of covering for the guy's "Y" / "Z" screwup! Just ad-lib a couple of quick remarks and keep right on going, no point in starting another take when they're nearly at the end!

  • @vonbontee

I picked up on the adlib the first time I saw it. 40 years ago. Jerry Hunt and Frank Oz are original Muppeteers.

BTW, the soup should be cold with the dry ice in water making all the vapor. One of my favorite bits of all time. Thanks, Wattamack4, for posting.

  • "sir, i dont appreciate racial slurs spelled in my soup"

  • Charlie we got a weirdo. LMAO Grover always cracks me up. :)

  • The next morning,he comes in for a bowl of Alpha Bits.

  • But if he doesn't get the full alphabet in hot soup, his mother will die.

OCD wears an ugly, ugly face.

  • does it realli matter if ur missing a J,O, n Z? lol lol

  • Charlie, I got a weirdo!

  • man i feel bad for grover this guy is touturing him by making sure he has all the letters. hes picky and stupid

  • CHARLIE I GOT A WEIRDO.

  • @afreecountry lol

  • i love this this i find funny and i loved to watch it as a kid

  • I always like to have a little "J" with my soup.

  • LOL!!!! "It's a bad day for you sir!" and ""Charlie! I got a wierdo!"

  • @Pug40 Yeah, the little commentary from Grover is great.

  • omg lol

  • okay, have fun...

  • he better tip alot!

  • 2:00 It's a bad day for you, isn't it, sir?

    HAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

  • Gonna have to take Grover's side this time. Just eat the dang soup while it's hot! All letters taste the same. At least time Grover brought you what you wated without screwing up.

  • gosh grover

how could you forget the J and the O

    how dare you!!!!!

  • You know....you NEVER see Charlie the cook. Poor guy. Grover keeps him hopping.

You would think they would have some sort of Racial solidarity - Grover and Mr. Johnson - they are both BLUE.

  • So THIS is their first encounter. XD Heh heh, classic. Its funny how their roles started out and ended up switching. I'd like to play a character like that, where I start off as the victim but end up becoming a kindly sort of antagonist. *snerk*

  • love the improv

  • If anyone ever wondered WHY Grover always torments poor Mr. Johnson so much, this clip should explain it all.

i admire Grover's patience is this one. If I had been the waiter, I would have just left TWO letters in his alphabet soup: F and U.

  • @animationeer ...Hahahaha!! OMG...that made me LOL....literally...and I'm at work watching this during "down" time. :D

  • @animationeer: "If I had been the waiter, I would have just left TWO letters in his alphabet soup: F and U." *snicker* Not a bad idea for a YouTube Poop of this sketch!

  • "...charlie i got a weirdo.."

  • LETTT'SSS DOOO THISSS!!!

  • I love Grover!

  • shorty we got a weirdo!!!! ja ja ja ja that is sooooo funny

  • These skits are superb! The way the two characters play off of eachother is a true art.

    Reminds me of Vaudeville!

  • lol did grover say charlie i got a weirdo when he went to get the o?

  • kerplunk lol

  • Grover was a pretty good waiter, he would of had a very solid run in Applebee's

  • @VisionofOrion: LOL!!!

  • The J-O-Y is missing in his soup, and he can't sleep without the "Z".

  • A-B-C-D-E-F Cookie Monster!Oops!Sorry wrong sketch!LOL!

  • Think blue guy was getting revenge for all the times Grover gave him a hard time?

  • Probably

  • This is the first sketch made so I think it is the other way round.

  • As I was a child, all the time I heard this skit with my walkman, when I was in a car, for a long travel. XD

I love it. In German it's the same dialog. Nothing is changed. :D

  • ya it s occ bikes

  • They should make a skit where Grover is working at a circus selling popcorn, and Fat Blue is watching the show.

  • This was awesome.

    "Charlie, we got a weirdo."

One of the rare authentic belly laugh moments in my book XD

  • LOL!I love that line,because,I agree with him 100%!Poor Grover!I work in a grocery and I know exactly what he's going through!I've gotten a few weirdos myself!LOL!

  • "I dont want a soup without an O in it,"

"It's a bad day for you, isn't it sir,"

    I love Grover!

  • And he keeps going back to the same Restaurant..LOL.

  • and get the same waiter each time. He should ask for another waiter. :-)

  • you know out of all the grover waiter episodes i think this is the first one where grover is the one to actually lose his patience and faints

  • Mm-hmm..and we know that in all the later sketches, it's Fat Blue who's doing the fainting.

At least when Simon Soundman was there, he didn't faint.

  • poor fat blue, he can't just get a good meal

  • It's impossible to feel sorry for this guy. I mean anybody who keeps coming in for lunch alone and sings the alphabet to himself is clearly a dick.

  • My folks were probably thinking the same thing when they saw him on TV... *snicker*

  • @thetodge This was the very first one.

  • @thetodge or a nutbar

  • Haha. What an OCD bastard!

  • fat blue is a fat bitch

  • "ok have fun" hehe

  • In most cases my sympathy is with the patron and against the waiter, but this guy is really pushing it.

  • Lmao looks like Fat Blue deserved what happens in the future!

  • Charlie, I think there's a J missing in the shoop...LOL!!

  • Comment removed

  • ''It's a bad day for you isn't it?''...''Charlie,we got a weirdo".

  • hahaha good one

  • back then it looks like fat blue was the one causing the trouble

  • Sort of. Maybe that's why Grover's service because what it was.

  • I was desperately hoping that 'P' would be the missing letter.

  • Thank You sooooooooooooooooooo very much for this wonderful video :)

  • Take that Grover! :-D

  • The BEST Grover skit, ever!

  • mai nephew loved it

  • i just adore "lovable, furry ol' Grover" he has always been my favorite SS character. He is afraid to be different! :)

  • This is the first time. So Fat Blue probably annoyed grover so much this one time that Grover decided he would follow fat Blue wherever he goes messing up his orders.

  • lol i was about to say that

  • hmmm that makes sense o.o so this is where it all originated from.

  • If the Y had been the last letter missing, I would expected him to say oh, JOY.

  • what an asshole

  • Make you want to smack the shit out of Fat Blue, doesn't it?

  • The sad thing is that there are really people like Fat Blue, being that I worked in a restraunt for 10+ years. To be fair, however, you also have your share of Grover-like waiters.

  • 3:00 - "Z? You can't always be right." Hahaha! Grover's the best. :)

  • DAMN.. im surprised Grover didnt spit in that damn soup. What dick that guy was.

  • And you have to wonder: Why didn't the guy ask for a different waiter?

  • I can see why the blue guy wouldn't want the soup without the O, it's all about the O, LOL

  • He didn't want it without the J, O, or Z. He must be really picky and want the ENTIRE alphabet in that soup.

  • I know, I was just making a joke

  • I understand.

  • hahhhh, I guess that what made Grover trat the blue guy badlly later on HAHH.

  • Well, from what I know, this is the only skit where Grover faints. For the remaining skits, it's Fat Blue that ends up fainting.

  • This is a classic! I love these sketches. "The Y is missing. Oh wait I made a mistake. The Z is missing. "Okay Sir I have your Z. Kerplunk". LOL.

  • After seein' this one I don't feel sorry for the way Grover treats Fat Blue. It seems he's going out of his way to be an anal jerk in this skit. Love the old SS! No educational show can touch this and that includes the current SS.

  • Believe it or not, the Sesame Street site has some, it not all of these skits. This is one of them..

  • Thanks for tellin' me! I'll be sure to check it out!!

  • Unbelieveable..wattamack4 is back. Took him sometime to get there, but he's back!

  • grover's voice sounds deeper in this 1 than usual.

  • I remember this episode like it was yesterday even though I can't remember what ACTUALLY happened yesterday! Thanks for posting, it bring backs a lot of memories.

  • Heh, you can tell he went off-script when he said "Y" and they ad-libbed their way through it.

  • fat blue looks very differnt but still this is funny

  • Hmmm, I remember from my childhood Grover always driving the blue guy crazy. I guess the blue guy got his payback once in a while. =D I mean... who expects there to be one of every letter in alphabet soup? XDDD

  • Look at the canned alphabet soups..even THEY have every letter..so I'm guessing that's how he wants it.

  • i get weird flashbacks that I haven't felt since i was 3 or 4 watching these old SS clips.

  • "for the man" who could miss this line? epic.

  • If this guy doesn't like Grover as a waiter he should go to another restaurant.

  • Seriously! Why does he keep coming back?

  • he does, and grover is working at ALL the restaraunts he goes to

  • I think almost all these sketches are the exact same thing: No matter what job Grover does, Fat Blue is NOT satisfied with the service.

  • @UterKiller All except Pizzaria Dios.

  • Good question..maybe he thinks it'll be good when he gets a DIFFERENT waiter..but, as we know, it's not to be.

  • I love when he tries to order a little hamburger and gets mad for being something you find at white castle. Want the big one? Crash!

  • my all time favorite sesame street skit!

  • Grover would NEVER call anyone a weirdo. This is NOT a true Grover skit.

  • Why wouldn't he? They used to say a lot of things like that on Sesame Street. There were worse things in fact. Lmao.

  • Not the real Sesame Street in the 70's. The dumbed down sesame street in the 80's and 90's started that shit.

  • give fat blue his J

  • Classic!

  • haha what a nut fat blue is.....WHO THE FUCK SINGS THE ALPHABET IN A RESTAURANT?!

  • Grover carried the 'o' on the wrong finger. I think he could have done a better job 'expressing himself.'

  • Did Grover wash his hands before touching the letters? hahahaha! funny!

  • Æ Ø Å then??

  • @10hi2fast4u: "Sir, if you want THOSE strange letters in your soup, I suggest you leave the country." ;-)

  • "Charlie, I got a weirdo!"

  • that makes me roar with laughter!! LOL

  • I'm thinking the confusion over the Y and the Z was probably a genuine mistake/ad lib. Pretty cool.

  • I see why grover bugs him in the other skits :P

  • the soup's cold

    XDDDD

  • How about a bowl of Hot Alphabet soup spelled "H-O-T"?

  • "Charlie, I got a weirdo..."

  • lol at the very end

  • "kaplonk" :D

  • I have been watching Sesame Street since I was a little kid. This brings back so many memories. I have always wondered why puppets faint every time they get frustrated? LOL!!

  • I know.

  • If I were the waiter the guy would be wearing the soup.

  • Grover got his revenge with all the other scenes

  • this guy is a server's worst nightmare. he'd get more than letters in the soup if it were me serving him. lol

  • This kit and other "Grover and Fat Blue" excerpts reminds me of the customer service bits in BBC's "Fawlty Towers." I'm laughing along with your comment, mmmaddix. I also think that in "Fawlty Towers" that Basil is a server's worst nightmare from my point of view. Only, Basil makes a fool of himself and is in a grumpy mood when he gives customers a hard time. Double LOLs

  • Basil is certain Manuel's worst nightmare! Ha ha ha. Que? Que? Basil is such a snot to the customers and the staff. The only one he isn't snotty to is his wife, because he's afraid of her. Except he is a snot to here when she is right next to him but not looking. That show cracks me up! Hey, grover is kinda like Manual. LOL

  • He is kinda like both Basil and Manuel because of his literal, happy mood he's in when he gives Mr. Johnson a hard time. One animated character in "Sesame Street" that's like Maunel from "Fawlty Towers" is the bellhop who's dressed in red. Did you see the bellhop excerpts about counting? I did. The difference is that bellhop remembers the number instead of what he's supposed to be doing.

  • No, I haven't seen those. I'll check them out when I have a bit more time, though.

  • Okay. There's a nice chance that you'll like the clips of the animated bellhop excerpts from "Sesame Street." They're so funny.

  • I saw those, and remember them once i saw them again. I still think the humor beats Grover's.

  • It's a bad day for you isn't it sir

    lol

  • theres a J missing ay? id say grover smoked it lol classic kids tv, such fond memories

  • theres a J missing ay? id say grover smoked it lol classic kids tv, such fond memories

  • This so reminds me of the tools that I wait on @ The Cheesecake Factory

  • I think alot of my personality comes from Grover in these skits. ie: no patience for pinheads. These were always my favorite seseme st. bits as a kid. If you have any with Grover with the cab driver doing the same kinda thing I'd really appreciate it.

  • No wonder Grover always messed with.

  • "Charlie, I gottta weirdo" lmao...

  • to true - lmao!

  • They should redo this act with Grover and Monk. Would be fantastic.

  • I think it'd be better if you add in two other Jerry Nelson characters, the Count and the Amazing Mumford.. Think of it:

Mr. Johnson: "There's a J missing in the soup."

    Count: "1! 1 missing letter! Ha-ha-ha."

Amazing Mumford: "I can fix that. A LA PEANUT BUTTER SANDWICHES! (He waves his wand, J magically appears in either the soup, or in the kitchen so that Grover can bring it out and put it in the soup)

  • @gameshowguy2000: Oh heck yeah...this sketch is already funny as is, but your rewrite would've been over-the-top hilarious (especially with the blooper-reel potential: imagine Mr. Johnson complaining about the missing J in the Count's accent, followed by the director hollering CUT!)

  • If Mr. Johnson started out THIS obesessive compulsive, is it any wonder Grover began to annoy him as a waiter? Maybe on purpose.

  • I like the improvising when he flubs the "y" instead of the "z"

  • that was a really long sketch

  • HE HE THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT SHIT

  • colleen your soooooop0ooooooo hot

  • Early on the man was the weirdo. Later, grover became weird.

  • don't rub it in! this is a good restaurant! don't rub it in ! lol

  • Haha, this is halarious. I work in the resturant business, and get anal customers like the blue guy all the time. LOL..."it's a bad day for you isn't it sir?" hehe, I have to use that line. :p

  • It's a bad day for you isn't it sir...

    Charlie I got a wierdo!

    LOL!!

  • The Count has to obsessively count everything in sight. And THIS guy can't eat alphabet soup without all the letters in it at the same time. What's up with all the OCD on Sesame Street?

  • Imagine what would happen if the Count and Big Blue (both voiced by Jerry Nelson) were in the restaurant at the same time. That's enough to even give Grover a headache!

  • "Let's see, now...there are 46 A's, 23 B's. 19 C's..." and so on after the Count totals up the letters in HIS bowl of alphabet soup. *LMAO*

  • stupid fat blue

  • what an asshole, complains just because the J is missing...

  • I wish that restaurants could provide fast service like this one does, lol

  • I love this skit

  • Interesting how Grover and Johnson basically switched roles over time. From "Grover the hardworking waiter can never satisfy Johnson the finicky customer" to "Johnson the innocent customer always victimized by Grover the incompetent waiter."

Reminds me of how Homer and Marge Simpson's roles at the beginning were pretty much the opposite of what they are now--Marge was kind of laid-back and bimboish while Homer was the one concerned about the family's status and what people thought of them.

  • poor grove

  • I laughed so hard at Grover back then!

  • this stuff right here is da shit, the new SS show sucks, gotta love the old school SS

  • Cookie monster doesn't even eat cookies anymore. I know what you mean. ^_^

  • guess he cant be called the cookie monster if he dont eat cookies lmao, whats he eat now lol i dont watch the new SS b/c it sux
