@crazyalaa No, he's completely wrong. Why do you think the aluminium case will CAUSE overheating? The use of poor conductive materials such as plastics is much more likely to cause overheating.

As far as I can see, the inner chassis plate is attached positively to the case, meaning it will act as a brilliant heat dissipator.

Aluminium is a very good conductor of heat, so the complete opposite is the case. ie: there will be less overheating. Did you do science?

@G58 The aluminium is a good heat conductor , the heat will dissipate to the aluminium wich is the part you grab to handle, would you want to grab it hot? Not saying it will overeat but it is possible...

@iPhonePortugal You need to understand the difference between the device overheating due to heat within the device failing to dissipate sufficiently, and the device getting warm on the outside, as a direct result of the heat dissipating effectively. The former is bad, the latter is not bad.

What you should be concerned about is the components inside the device getting too hot due to the heat not dissipating into the case. With the aluminium case Apple appear to have taken steps to prevent this.

Component manufacturers specify safe working heat limits for every component. Device manufacturers that fail to effectively circulate and dissipate heat efficiently suffer the greatest number of such failures.

@crazymonkey1953 I think we were talking about the iPhone, not the iPad. The new iPhone is a completely new device with a new faster processor. Also, the proximity of the battery to the components in an non ventilated device is a recipe for overheating.

Some complected engineering goes into that piece of metal. It seems like the new iPhone will be heavy, with all of that metal in it, even if gizmodo says it weighs only slightly more.
