  • The game is for MAME. Called Kunio-Kun something. Kunio appears in many games from the same company.

  • Red haired guy gets beaten up all the time!

  • I played the USA version of this, Renegade. This is such a hard game.

  • so whats with the whole "orreeyyaa!!" thing in japanese culture? usually hear it when sumones hitting sumone else real hard or gettin thrown

  • Is this for MAME? Can someone PLEASE tell me where to download it, if possible?

    Thanks!!!

  • this game is hard as fuck, i love the fact you can jump on guys that are down and beat their ass

  • double dragon should have had those other moves aswell smh.

  • this kind of game sucks coz you loose all the time

  • Poor Hiroshi, getting beaten up every day after school. And then getting stabbed... just for being alive.

  • in the american version the bald guys were black and with flowered shirts

  • Japan has some serious young offenders issues! With students openly beating each other up in the streets.

  • @Sambucacat LOL! I know right!

  • @smithmikeal But down to heart the story is pretty original.

The only game I know of from it's era where it involves you avenging your friend from being constantly assaulted by other school gangs.

And I also think it's the only time you'll see a biker gang wearing pink. Most flamboyant gang I've seen.

Also whatever weapon that gang uses to attack is pink as well. It's up for discussion as to what that is.

  • @Nintendavin I blame palette limitations for the weapon issue. (It's s'posed to be a metal pipe, I'll bet.)

  • @SpyHotz404 Well even then they could have substituted a dark brown or dark grey for the weapon. (There are bits of grey in their hair, unless that's just an empty pixel on the sprite).

  • @smithmikeal This is the original version of the game. Renegade is the one that is modified

  • So is this like a sequal to River City Ransom or is it a spirital followup?

  • @Zeithri River City Ransom or "Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari" is the third game of the Kunio series, Super Dodge Ball or "Nekketsu Koukou Dodgeball Bu" being the second, and finally Renegade or "Nekketsu Kouha Kunio Kun" a.k.a the game shown in the video is the very first game of the series.

  • This game describes my life.

  • Riki the first boss :E good game right difiult not to easy and not to hard to play :D

  • his friend is always getting his ass whooped lol

  • For some reason I remember the arcade version being better graphics-wise.

Guess my memory is getting worse!

  • her name is misuzu

  • personally i like the japanese story here, rather dan the US(renegade) version, the japanese version was just about ur gang, and u not taking shit from nobody, bare hands even against knives, and a gun. the US version doesn't make sense in the end, u get dis out of wack out of place "drawn differently graphics" of dis blonde girl at the end. the only cool thing about the US version(renegade) dat it resembles the move "the warriors" and the graphics r less blocky

  • do you have a problem with words that begin with "th"?

  • no, it's just dat it's easier typing short hand in limited comment boxes. but i understand where ur coming from, for asians/pacific islanders it's easier to use "d's" for "th's" like blacks like 2 use "f's" 4 "th's" (teeth= teef) u get my point.

  • Race has nothing to do with dialect. Environment & education are the prime factors determining one's dialect.

  • yes, i totally agree,! so u like dis game too? or have/had some fond memory of it? cuz it's awsome and fun. i have it on MAME, and MAME is awsome too.

  • You kids & your MAME. In my day I had to go to the arcade, floor sticky from beer, the air thick with cigarette smoke. The Beasties & Run DMC blasting overhead. Ahhh..those were the days. Sorrygot carried away. I played it a couple times, I suxd.

  • dude...im only 7 yrs younger dan u. i lived the rise and fall of arcades. i used to pump quarters in dos arcade cabinets as if it was a laundry matt machine. The MAME program is the only entity to preserve the fond arcades we remembered and played years ago.MAME holds the soul of the arcade(rom) the cabinet years r gone, but each arcade soul(rom) is accesable free of charge throu MAME. Hold and cherish ur memories as i do. If der is N E thing to put a smile on ur face it will b a fond memory.

  • Yeah, yeah...that's beautiful kid, now do something useful & tell me how to get this stupid MAME to work on sux azz Vista. I download the files but they stay on the dwnld list. No foldr or icon appears on my dsktop to open.

  • Umm... No.

Nekketsu Kouha Kunio Kun is actually about Kunio avenging his constantly harassed friend Hiroshi from other school gangs.

Renegade involves you rescuing your captured girlfriend. And while the graphics are redrawn, the changes get less and less drastic as you proceed through the game.

Also do you have downs syndrome or something? u sound lik a 5 yer old retard dat cant spell deir "th's" right.

  • dude calm ur nintendo ass down ok, im not here to insult N E 1 im just trying to text short hand.u wanna be the english teacher here??!! I have "downs syndrome?!! ok im mentally challenged ryt? here's my challenge to u...u correct a black person's th's when they use "f's" or an asian's L's & R's and an islander's "d's" over th's. don't insult people right away over dumb shit, dat's how u get ur ass handed to u real quick. a friendly tip for u, "assumtion is the mother of all fuck ups".

  • I think you are sort of retarded.

You randomly brought in verbal accents just out of no where. Sure, they may have an accent when they TALK, but they don't actually type like that.

And really, I'm not actually mad. It's just that you type like a mentally handicapped person and I'm just addressing that.

  • In Spanish:

Voice after inserting coin: "lo vay a tener?"

Kunio (after Hiroshi gets beaten up): "AQUI HAY UN ERROR!"

  • Man id love fighting chicks like this guy in level 3,just imagine beat the shit out of them and then rape them....cool!!!

  • you disturb me slightly...

  • it's funny u mention dat..in japanese comic culture(manga) the "girls" in stage 3 u see wearing longer blue dresses, dark glasses, and air sanitation mouth guard, are actually guys supporting der bitches. LOL

  • didnt know that....

  • yeah, watch the video again, notice dey don't scream when dey KO, only the real girls will scream when KO'd

  • Fighting those knife-wielding thugs in the very last level always scared the hell out of me. Way more than it probably should've. XP

  • UGH I hate the 3rd level boss! She slaps the shit out of me every time! I still haven't figured out how to get on top of people to punch them... Then again, this is the first time i've played this game, I don't think I was even born when this game came out...

  • Man... I said this a month ago? I must of sucked...

Now I can beat the game on the hardest difficulty!

  • wow they have some of the music from super dodge ball in here

  • Well it is the same series.

  • I love this game, I wish it was on the PSN store. Although here in the U.S. I played the Renegade version.

  • Misuzu is freaking cheap!

  • wow? you can punch them on the floor? newer beat em ups didn't have that! :(

  • For some reason they took it out of double dragon which is this games sequel. Although double dragon 2 on the Gameboy had punching on the floor.

  • Kunio is such as ass-kicker.

  • did you notice that the trains in this version have no graffitti on them?

  • What's the name of that big woman? I fought her in the game "Shin Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-Kun: Tachi no Banka" (I could have ALMOST made it out, though).

  • That's Misuzu, A giant sukeban from the Taiyō Academy, an all girl school. She first appears as the stage 3 boss in Kunio-kun. She reappears as Sabu's bodyguard in Kunio-tachi no Banka and as a playable character in the Neo Geo version of Super Dodge Ball. Her counterpart in Renegade is named Kim.

  • Ah...

  • lol my dad used to call her big bertha on renegade!

  • her name is Misuzu.

  • Does anyone know where I can find this rom?

  • Try PlanetEmu . Net.

  • Hiroshi seems to remind me of Kuwabara from YYH.

    I'm just saying...

  • Well I suposse that is because the system of the simulation of the figth, if you receive a punch first that will give the chance to the opponent to continue punching you, I believe thats why Hiroshi gets knocked out everytime, He always receive the first strike.

  • At 3:06 my man put the hands on that broad XD

  • That guy that gets beaten is Hiroshi, he is Kunio Kun friend and rival, actualy he knows how to figth but Kunio is much better than him.

  • Oh OK, thanks for the info. I guess he much better than Hiroshi because Hiroshi was just standing there taking shots to the grill. He didn't put his hands up to block or nothing. What's up with that?

  • Actually Kunio and Riki were originally enemies in this game and they didn't team up until Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari (River City Ransom, the third game in the series).

  • awesome. i've never seen the japanese version of renegade before. good stuff. who is the guy who catches the "six piece" combo during the first two stage intros, gets purse slapped in the third and finally shanked with a dull looking knife in the forth? (poor guy needs to learn how to box or something)

  • The gates of hell is opened to me, at last I know how to beat those damn Yakuzas, hehe by the way remember the american version called Renegade? with voices and sprites changed to create some american atmosphere, well in game the control feels the same I like both versions but still I prefer to see Kunio kun.

  • UP乙!

  • poor guy. Everyday he gets socked. I see why he's always kicking their butts the very next second.

  • i dont get why u get ur ass beat before every level... people must really hate mr k

  • wow. this obviously is so much cooler than the NES version.

it's too bad i didn't get a chance to play it.

  • can someone translate the voice samples for me?

  • Voice after inserting coin: "Ganbatte ne! (Good Luck)"

Kunio (after Hiroshi gets beaten up): "Matte, kono yarou! (Stop, you punks!"

Riki: "Namen nayo, kono yarou! (Don't mess with me, punk!)"

    Shinji: "Zakenjanee! (F__k you!)"

Misuzu: "Nametenjaneezo! (I'm not one to be messed around)"

  • Haha, thanks so much for those translated statements Johnny, always wondered what they were saying in this excellent game...

  • Well done!

  • WOOW that game look epic for a '86 game :0 !!!

and i falled in love with the NES versio !

    Very different though ^^

  • !!!!

  • I love it when the heor is fighting the girls and mounts them and goes UFC on them!

  • damn that guy that gets his ass kicked at the start really has some bad luck lol

  • This is easy mode

  • This game's awesome, I love how his mate keeps getting his head kicked in everyday haha

  • Believe it or not, this game is actually (in Japan) Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun. One of the first beat-em-ups, and the first game in the series which spawned River City Ransom.

  • Everybody old enough thinks Double Dragon was the first of its kind but this predates it by one year.

  • Incidently, both the Kunio-Kun series and Double Dragon were made by Technos Japan. Technos also likes to have fun. Ryuichi and Ryuji Hattori (Randy and Andy) are actually the Double Dragons in Downtown Nekkutsu (River City Ransom).

  • ohhh i love this game since i was a kid

  • yea, it's very popular in japan in 80s and we had a lot of fights like kunio-kun on the street, haha.

  • Great run....I enjoy the speech in this game. I wonder they be sayin though. The one that got stuck in my head is Riki sayin "hominu!"

  • Nekketsu! Nice run. :)

  • U cool !i can't kill the last boss!! :(

  • gangs don't wear uniforms in America either

  • Because there are no yakuza or bosozu in America. I hate this game so much.

  • why does it it not look the same has the usa one O_0

  • What version is this? The title says Arcade but it doesn't look like the version I know.

  • it´s the japanese version, in wich you didn`t have to save you gilfriend but you nerdy friend who keept beeing bullied all the time.

  • Thanks. I found that out coincidentally yesterday while reading about Double Dragon.

  • same tech as me on the first level dude :P

  • Nice. I'm a big fan of the Nekketsu series.
