it just takes lots of reading practice to get the hang of kanji and being able to recognize it. it helps to have a teacher or a fluent japanese speaker to explain the kanji's meaning, but reading is the best way. A change of a stroke can change the entire meaning, so be careful.
this game is not going to teach you kanji. it will help you learn to make the lines and shape correctly but not the meaning the readings or anything like that.
get a r4 flash card and download from romulation(.com), the flas card is a card where you can put a microSD card (like the ones in the cellphones) the way to play all the DS games is: 1)get a flash card, (it includes a miniSDcard)2) download games from internet. 3)put the games in the microSD and then in the DS. Play! search for more tags like ''flashcards for DS'' or visit any R4 page.
if you want English translation I would do Kanji sono mama Jiten. The thing I don't like about it is that it'll pronounce the English word but It won't pronounce the Japanese word. Kanji Kakitori kun is suppose to be for elementary and middle school kids. I think it's an awesome game for learning stroke order.
So to use this software effectively, you really need to know the on- and kun-yomi through other methods? It's only a way to test your knowledge that you already have learned elsewhere rather than teach you the readings?
Hi i've just got this game and in the first section when you are practising how to write the kanji it doesn't tell you what it means or how to say it in hiragana, so how do you do the second section without looking it up all the time?
Nice post. I've used かきとりくん for the past year and it's by far the most enjoyable way to learn.
One more item that you didn't mention is that it also helps make your handwriting a lot neater over time (which I really needed help with!). My Japanese penpals have been very impressed with the game as well and its results. Highly recommended.
there are kanji but the small hiragana are written above the kanji - so if you don't know the kanji you can work out what it means with the hiragana's pronunciation
i buy from there all the time if there's things cheaper on there than from ebay. play-asia is trusted and when u get ur item, it comes with a $5 off coupon

Before you buy this game, I think you have to buy My Japanese Coach to learn Hiragana and Katakana and how to say some basic words and sentences.
This game is in Hiragana and Katakana right and from that you learn Kanji?
And how do you pronounce the Kanji? Does the game tell you that??

It's a Japanese game. You'd have to import it. My friend buys from NCSX all the time, but I haven't done much research on importing video games.
