I did that same journey up safwan hill, from um quasar, with a drops truck,to deliver a generator, some good views of iraq and kuwait from the top of there, a little bit dodgy comming back down..but it was fun..
I've driven to the base of Safwan Hill in an MRAP, I would never take that MRAP up that hill though. It was bad enough riding to the base of the hill.
The Humvee originally used in Iraq had no armour and US soldiers had to resort to fit DIY armour with scrap metal. Even an armoured Hummvee is not up to job to protect against IEDs. That's why the UK & US military have bought the heavily armoured 6x6 Mastiff to replace the Humvee and Snatch Land Rover.
I love and hate the mastif, love it cos its really good at its job, and hate it cos i was sick of being in one day in day out. still it was good for getting your head down in the back if there was not many in.
Snatch was basically taken out of Northern Ireland and put into Iraq, different ballgame. It was fit for purpose in NI but was all there was at the time for Iraq. There was a massive upgrading programme where 20 yr old landrovers were fitted out for duty again after having served what would have been their normal service, they are still going.
Snatch Vrs Humvee then its humvee all the way. the Snatch provides protection for small arms fire and was not designed to take IED blasts or RPG.The Humvee was.
The early Humvees in Iraq were soft skinned vehicles and had no ballistic protection for the occupants or top gunner, in comparison the off-the-shelf Snatch Land Rover was streets ahead in providing bullet and blast protection.
I loved driving the 90 fast up and down that hill in 2004

I've got pictures that I took of grunts using humvees with 1980s-style flak jackets attached to the doors with 550 cord.
Whatever works.
