  • im 16 year old and im in love with 50' 60' 70' and 80'

    is that wierd ?

  • @EhadunEhad

No, not weird. This song like others in this time period are songs that I grew up listening to, I'm a child of the 70's. I was in my early 20's at the time the Wall came out, I was in the military at the time (I actually watch this movie on the military base I was stationed on the time). Every generation has the music of "their" time. I hear a lot of the younger generation say they enjoy the songs of my generation, nothing wrong with that. Our generation don't mind sharing.

  • The single mother of boys, particularly, can make sex harder than it needs to be."

  • My mother was, to some extent, a wall herself that I was banging my head against. She lived her life in the service of others. She was a school teacher. But it wasn't until I was 45, 50 years old that I realised how impossible it was for her to listen to me."

Mojo asked Waters if his mother saw herself in the song? He replied: "She's not that recognisable. The song is more general, the idea that we can be controlled by our parents' views on things like sex.

  • Waters went on to admit to Mojo that the overly protective suffocating mother portrayed in the song has some similarities to his own mum. He said: "My mother was suffocating in her own way. She always had to be right about everything. I'm not blaming her. That's who she was. I grew up with a single parent who could never hear anything I said, because nothing I said could possibly be as important as what she believed.

  • Waters told Mojo magazine December 2009: "The song has some connection with my mother, for sure, though the mother that Gerald Scarfe visualises in his drawings couldn't be further from mine. She's nothing like that." (For the film version of The Wall, cartoonist Gerald Scarfe visualised the mother as a huge monstrous woman with a brick-wall bosom.)

  • Roger Waters: "If you can level one accusation at mothers, it is that they tend to protect their children too much. Too much and for too long. This isn't a portrait of my mother, although one or two of the things in there apply to her as well as to I'm sure lots of other people's mothers."

  • do you think for me its weird im a 13 year old girl and i love pink floyed, kansas and which ones pink my dad told me about these bands and i seem to like them

  • Amazing guitar solo. Simple to listen, complicated to don't let it touches your soul.

  • so what's ur point? im a 13 year old girl pink floyd is amazing... xD

  • I'm 18 and I was raised on Pink Floyd and other classics and they are amazing I can listen to this new "music" but it is not all that great

  • @warcraftgirljulia im 11 and love pink floyd

my father taught me well also

  • is it wierd, that im a 15 yr old girl,

    and ilove pink floyd?

my step dad taught me well.

  • @warcraftgirljulia nope. i'm a 15 year old boy but i can't stand the music i'm 'supposed' to be listening to. who wants to be like everyone else anyway? be proud to like some decent music :)

  • @AJRead2 ahha yeah, i cant stand i either !

its not reall music. & being yourself is waaay better

    then being the same !:)

  • @AJRead2 AMEN!!!! thank ya sir, you have no idea!

  • @AJRead2 I'm a 15 year old guy, and I love this band. These new rap songs are only famous for a few months then get burned out. But these guys are forever

  • @AJRead2 It's not strange, I first started listening to Pink Floyd in 1972, I was 15. I am 54 and still enjoy it daily. Hearing kids like you are listening, restores my faith that my generations music will live on. Be proud to know real music. My children appreciate music, and their children will do too.

  • @AJRead2 Well put fella!

  • @AJRead2 Music you're supposed to be listening to? Just because mainstream music is blowing up everywhere, it doesn't mean you're supposed to be listening to it. Kids always make a big deal about liking good music. Hell, I'm a kid and I don't think it's special that I choose to listen to Floyd over the other "musicians".

  • @AJRead2 welcome to the club, 15 year old girl& has been loving this stuff for years

  • @AJRead2 DAMN RIGHT!!!

  • @AJRead2 Same here. I'm glad my dad taught me to listen to good music. I'm 13.

  • @warcraftgirljulia be happy , and enjoy good music

  • @warcraftgirljulia its not weird lol i grew p with it too XD

  • @warcraftgirljulia im 13 n i luv pink floyd mah sister showed me all there songs n i fell in love with their music

  • @warcraftgirljulia Uhm no it's not weird at all, my thirteen year old brother has been listening to pink floyd since he was like seven. It's a thing called exposure and taste. Each depend upon you, your life, your singular situation and perspective on life. Nothing's weird about anything, or rather everything is weird. But liking music is not weird, especially very well composed music such as this. It doesn't matter, don't be so quick to label yourself it makes you seem shallow. The End.

  • its about a young boy that loses his father in the war and is raised by his overly protective mother. The child grows up alone as an outsider that absolutely does not fit in. He feels trapped by his overly protective environment while being shunned by the people around him. and when he says she is building a wall, he means she just wants the two to be trapped in a wall with only each other. It says, 'mother, did it have to be so high" because she built that wall too high. did that help?

  • @Aragorn2673 Roger Waters built the wall not his mother. The song is off the album "the wall" which represents the wall he built around himself to separate himself from society.

  • J'm sixteen, from Serbia, and J'm listening pink floyd ever since J can remember and J can't imagine one day without them. My brother is the biggest fen, and he talks abaut them to everyone, he explained everything from 'the wall'to me when J was ten and there is noboby else who understand that movie as much as he can in this country. J would like to say that, if GILMOUR ever comes to Serbia, J'll be the first one there to watch him.

He ain't human, he is something else.

  • @warcraftgirljulia nice im 15 and classic rock is the shittt Pink floyd all the way mann...

  • @warcraftgirljulia HELL NO! I'm 14 and I like them and Janis Joplin and The Doors and Led-Zeppelin among others...

  • @warcraftgirljulia na hon it means your an educated young woman. Floyd are the best band ever bar none, I cant think of anyone else who comes close because there is no one. you should listen to their early stuff as well.

  • @gluepot66 led zepplins pretty awesome too

  • @thesuperlemonstation yes they are and probably more influential but do think floyd had something no other band ever has

  • @warcraftgirljulia Girls like us must stick together, Im 17 and right there with you. (: My parents taught me well.

  • @warcraftgirljulia .......yes he did......now ur on your way..........Happy Trails!!!!!!!!!! i wish they're good to you as they were good to me!!! God bless!

  • How funny 30 years later and actually, nothing, really nothing has changed maybe it even did get worse ...

Specially If I see what kind of nuthead we have to deal here in the Netherlands.

  • ‎"she won't let you fly, but she might let you sing..."

  • my fav line in this song is mother should i build a wall?

  • it is oohh,ah is it a waste of time. every were i look it says that.so starlitedisastr i dont now were u got facts probebly wici.daffty

  • Saw the wall last Thursday nice!

  • i dont get it?

  • @runnerboy14 whats there not o get?

  • he says" will they put me in the fire brick mine"(1.min 38 sec) something many kids did to earn money after and durring WW2 especialy when the father died in the war it was a terrible job many kids died very oppresive not hard to hear just listen

  • Momma said I like this song!

  • Mother symbolizes the repressive and tyrannical powers of government intruding in the private affairs of individuals that Pink sponsors when he gains influence and power and begins discriminating against audience members based on race and sexual preference. In the song, "mother" devolves from being a protective agent, to being a suppresson of individual rights. This song is a reminder that sometimes seemingly benign actions of social institutions slowly become sources of tyrannical oppression.

  • @figueroa661 Yes. It is a nice song.

  • @AJRead2 hahaha

  • @figueroa661 No, he literally means his mother. If you listen to the whole album, you'd know that.

  • @WickedlyBeautiful1: I understand that. I am providing an interprative perspective. In a text, whether it be literature, music, or in this case a combination of the two characters serve deep, symbolic purposes apart from their necessary functions as drivers of plot and the action of any particular work of narrative art.

  • @figueroa661 You're pretty smart. Good, I'm tired of stupid people, lol. ;)

  • @figueroa661 no, its just about an over protective mother, haven't you seen the wall?

  • 53artsy In fact I have, and I appreciate that you bring it up because the film is rife with imagery that links Pinks rise to success with the rise to success of a facist or nationalist party similar to the Nazis (the symbol of his band alludes to the symbolism of the USSR and of Nazis). There is a clear political subtext that drives this album (and film). All I'm saying is that Pink's overprotective Mother is responsible for Pink's later repressive political tendencies.

  • @53artsy think of the imagery in "waiting for the worms" in the film and compare that with nazi propaganda films.

  • @figueroa661

    Or the Queen..

  • @figueroa661

But Mother surely has to represent a certain individual,nO!

    Queen comes to mind.

  • @figueroa661 There's not need to take a symbol. Many mothers, like the mine, are like the one of the song. Fuck them!

  • @vitospericolato Its referring to any protective force out there. It can mothers but in society who do we look to to protect us? Unlike figueroa661 says its not social institutions but protection from dangers from the "outside". Hes asking his mother about all these things that could possibly hurt him, and the mother is responding by building "The Wall" around him which is no more healthy because as its says in the song fears aren't solved, just passed on and in the process becomes repressive.

  • @figueroa661 Big Mother is watching.

  • @figueroa661 or it could be about a kid whose mom is overprotective and his questions about life and how to navigate its many obstacles. war, love, the machine and the question to live and have pain or to run away and hide to avoid pain and thus all the beauty that comes from love/hate/heartbreak isolation belonging art violence and so on.

  • mcr ripped this off, lol.

  • this is da best song evzzzzzzzzz pink floyd is really the only music i listen 2! mother iz my fav

  • this is great but let me tell you, the line that say

oohh, ah. is it just a waste of time.

    it really says

oohh, life is it just a waste of time?

my dad has the origional album that came with the real lyrics. i just thought id let you know. but thank you, you did and very good jod :]
