I hope with this comes security of data transmission. We need computer geeks who will protect others from computer hackers. Then we can enjoy internet reality in Kenya.
Finally a light at the end of the tunnel. This firbre optic cable can do a lot for many kenyans and bring down the price of a lot of things that many people have over priced for years. But lets not forget, curruption does reign supreme. lets hope that monopolistic pricing practices don't happen.communication cost will reduce significanlty and jobs zitacome but as for the HD signals, mta ngoja. It will take yrs for this to be done & BTW, kuna different formats of HD. Don't go buying HD sets yet
tonyfingures... What different formats? Did you mean the resolution-720 & 1080? Right now they're selling in Nairobi the 1080 full HD TVs 16:9 just like in ng'ambo. Check Luthuli Ave stores and Nakumatt. I believe Mnet/Dstv or other corporations will stream the hd to wananchi because it's already in the fiber optic (video/internet).
Lol nobody should own anything. did you see what happened with Safaricom shares? If you sifu tembo too much hulitia maji. Safaricom shares trade at ksh 2.50 . The goons of Mobitelea... People really got chewed. The same will happen with the fiber Optic. It will be a huge hit but always corruption reigns supreme.
Unlike other African countries, Kenya is blessed with a huge wealth( Well educated population who speak the worlds only language (English) If the government is serious about creating employement, It should use this high speed bandwith to outsource work from Europe and the US. India did the same thing. Lets not understimate the power of fibre optics. the least should be HD TV. First things first.
TetuaMaana... Less than 1% of the population in Africa have access to broadband connectivity. The fiber-optic cable now in Kenya will link 21 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa --- including South Africa.
We've been waiting for this for a long time. Many Kenyans already own HD TVs but they underuse their TV potential because of lack of the HD channels. Now that the cable is in, Kenyans will enjoy more channels and in HD quality. We'll also get broadband internet unlike the slower dial-up and satellite connections we have. I just hope that corruption will not sabotage these cheaper and better quality services thr' overcharging or restricting the kind of customers offered the services. NTV go HD!
hd require alot of techs from camera to production lines to streaming. even west we dont really enjoy hd due its still new tech and we find it expensive abit and few opt in. but for communication telephone lines will become obsolete especially when one can use webcams and skype for free to international calls. again depends on computer availability and access to people all over kenya where we are behind a bit. not many school have even have computers to start with leave alone access.
da22ki The arrival of the cable is a good FIRST STEP. I know hd final product involves lots of high-tech inputs. Our local tv stations might not be able to air hd video soon but corporations like Mnet might go cable (instead of satellite) and stream hd channels like National Geographic, History, etc. Most people will benefit more from telephones and high-speed internet. I hope the govt/corporations install free public Wi-Fi hotspots. Cable might take time to reach many residential areas.
Finally, some good news. More must come, people who will focus on things like this before focusing on politics otherwise it's putting the horse before the cart and sliding backwards as we have in the last 45 years.
thank God at last kenya and africa knwn as third world countries can hav an improvement of technology to cheer about...n bravo NTV at last there is good news coz it was scandals of killins and corruption all de way..phew mazee thank GOd again i hope more will come!!
Call centres will kick off like crazy because we have an educated population and softer accents.
I really hope Kenyans will be behind the businesses though..
