I Love Nirvana (and Jeff too of course) but I gotta admit, Nirvana has The most annoying fans EVER!! Even Kurt himself made fun of This song.. Which incidently is my least favorite Nirvana song.... I be
Funny thing is when this was recored I would have agreed, but being 18 years removed and knowing what I now know about Kurt, there was no way they were gunning for grammys. Why do you think Kurt killed himself? Couldn't handle the fame.
LOL, what you guys never mocked someone?? He was mocking himself too, cos he wasn't able to imitate it well, which he admits. So who gives a rats, it's cute, and HE'S cute. Actually, Jeff n Kurt were both cute. Fuckin' Reaper, he's the one we should be gunning for!!!!!!!!!!
Why do people dislike artists because they don't like certain bands/genres?
Talk about being sheep. I love Jeff Buckley and I LOVE Nirvana, but I take no offense, because Jeff was an amazing musician. However, if someone untalented (perhaps Will.I.Am) was mocking Nirvana, I'd then be pissed.
Buckley was shit on by the grunge crowd for his kind of music, why on earth would he like it. Nirvana was insanely popular, but that did not mean that those people that played other types of music still hated on them. Hell, most of the people still hated on them. They did not truly blow up until after he killed himself, then they became a household name.
Other than that, it would have been nice to be able to grow old with both of these musicians here
such a shame jeff and kurt died so young, i can't look at this without getting overwhelmed by a sense of bitter nostalgia. To see him ridicule teen spirit knowing their day's where numbered fills me with an uneasy sense of disbelieve, how could they not have seen what we know now. they knew how to capture the sounds of an era but payed the ultimate price for doing so. To capture an era one must end it.
My heroes are dead, So I Salute their teen spirits. may they inspire me on all my days.
i haven't necessarily listened to every nirvana song in full, but i don't see the appeal. seemed to me they were more of a brand than an artistic expression. but then again, i could be wrong.
What a cunt. This was a mockery of Kurt and I dont even like Nirvana. Did he say "purple haired boy? grammy grammy grammy" ?? Not even funny, bullshit.
Jeff respected Kurt. It's just as easy for anyone to mock Jeff Buckley's music as it was for Jeff to mock Nirvana....he was not playing on the simplistic nature of Nirvana's songs.
i think he did that because he known that this song really annoyed kurt at the end of his career, the fact that he had to play it shows after shows litterally disgusted him (just look at the jokes kurt done with this song, like smells like teen spirit "goth version" lol).... im sure kurt would love that just as he loved the weird al yankovic "smells like nirvana song" ;)
i'd say he liked the fame, but then again, i havent books about him. but he seemed comfortable in the Chicago live DVD I bought. How could he not have respected Kurt. That would have been impossible. Incidentally, your profile picture? What is that? Is it of Jeff?
i don't know who this band is but If I met them in person I would say a few words to the lead singer for making fun of a band that's not even around anymore. Not to mention that Kurt's been gone for how many years now? Damn assholes! Make a name for yourself and don't trash the reputations of those who aren't even around to defend there selves. I'm a huge Nirvana fan and after seeing this video well it literally pissed me off!
@sweencat05 the singir of this "band" is called jeff buckley and he also died a long time ago so i think you couldn't say a thing to him ^^ and in my opinion he sings way better than Kurt Cobain ^^
@sweencat05 This was an old video. Jeff Buckley died in '97 himself. He wasn't making fun, he was just having fun up onstage. He was a very respectable artist and wouldn't ever disrespect another. He meant nothing harmful in his fun. He wasn't MAKING fun, just having it. Don't worry.
I'm a huge Nirvana fan myself, so I can understand how someone could take it as insulting. But that's not how it was meant.
@sweencat05 This video is from 1992 (when Kurt was still alive) and the band is Gods And Monsters. The singer, Jeff Buckley, went on to have his own solo career, but drowned in 1997. Jeff was just joking around. He actually had a picture of Kurt, hanging in the back of his tour bus during the mid 90s. Check him out. His album, 'Grace' is one of Jimmy Page's favourite albums.
Please take a long walk off of a short pier, you absolute arse clown. You have no fucking idea and people with your idiotic opinions are the very reason why music is poisoned. Jeff Buckley himself would hate your guts.
Wrong. Kurt Cobain was an underrated genius. Smells Like Teen Spirit doesn't even hold a candle to his other songs, like In Bloom, Heart-Shaped Box, Polly, and Lithium. To think that Cobain is only rememberable for that one song is to say you are ignorant of anything he's ever done. While he was never the guitarist or vocalist that Jeff Buckley was, he was just as brilliant of a song writer.
@PuuMastaFunk You are pretty much 100% correct expect I think that Kurt's voice is up there with Jeffs. Go listen to Nirvana Where Did You Sleep Last Night unplugged, his voice in that song is amazing
@AK123456789123456 I listen to Nirvana's mtv unplugged and wondered if Kurt Cobain sang out of key for a reason. To think his ability to make music in anyway shape or form was or is as brilliant as Jeff Buckley's is hard to believe. Remember they were making music roughly around the same time and Cobain road the grunge train, while Buckley created his own genre of music. Try to pigeon hole Jeff Buckley it's impossible!
@nat00ben06 why does everyone feel the need to compare artists?! they were both brilliant song writers in their own right, in the end it comes down to personal opinions and no one person's opinion is right. I'm a massive fan of Buckley and Nirvana. also, if you listened to the demos Cobain was creating on acoustic guitar in his final few months, you'd hear him going in a totally new direction. so don't pigeon-hole Cobain either
@mfkr616 that's because your obviously not a fan otherwise if you was you would know all the songs off nevermind were all great songs and some noisy tracks on inutero but the ones that weren't were great and incesticide do yourself a favore download or by nevermind before making out they only had one great song
what the fuck did he think he was doing? smells like teen spirit is a legendary song, i mean jeff buckely is great but that was realllllly low of him.
@cheesymate There is nothing wrong with what Jeff Buckley did. Furthermore, Kurt Kobain wouldn't have gotten offended because he gave the ok and actually enjoyed Weird Al's parody of this song in 1992.
jeff did these as jokes, he isnt paying out on artists, he did it to the doors aswell on the live at Sin-e'' cd, he is just mucking around, just shows how good of an musican he was
@Syphered08 You need to understand the context. Jeff was just a joker. He meant no harm. And to think Cobain was more talented than Buckley is just ridiculous. Name another artist that could pull off The Way Young Lovers Do.
@Hendrix1820 "A Pure Drop: The Life of Jeff Buckley" and "Dream Brother: The Lives and Music of Jeff and Tim Buckley". I have them both but I've only read sections of them both. Bu the books both have some really good stuff in them that you won't hear about from anywhere else.
@gotf you certainly can't tell it from this video. Why would he act like a tit? He had no cause to, not that i can see.. Just acting the jack i guess..
@willzer808 He does alot of weird stuff on stage. He once imitated Bob Dylan and Dylan got mad and Jeff felt really bad afterwards. But Jeff did respect Kurt alot for him not selling out even though he was mainstream. I'm sure they're having a jam session together in heaven as we speak.
@gotf he could have been jealous, when he says 'it's hard to make it' at the end there. Its as if he wanted to be in grammy contention. A song he wished he wrote perhaps...
@willzer808 That's not likely. He didn't even like of feel comfortable about his own fame. Which was nothing close to Nirvana's fame. In his book they said Courtney Love asked Jeff to go out with her to see an opera. Jeff was really happy to go with her because he respected her late husband so much. But Courtney asked him out to make it appear that they were sleeping with each other and Jeff was pissed afterwards.
@willzer808 So he does hate Courtney Love but he has alot of respect for Kurt. I think everyone is just reading too much into this video. Jeff is just making a stupid joke. Nothing more.
@gotf i'd say he liked the fame, but then again, i havent books about him. but he seemed comfortable in the Chicago live DVD I bought. How could he not have respected Kurt. That would have been impossible. Incidentally, your profile picture? What is that? Is it of Jeff?
@gotf oh hell yeah, he was more mocking the corporatization and and mass selling of grunge, and really any good music movement , after it's advent...so many bands with a corporate/record label endorsement generically copied the grunge formula for profit and paved roads with myriad banal grunge "hits"
@FRANCAMENTE234 i have absolutely no idea, it's just one of those videos i had in my computer and decided to upload cuz there's apparently nothing like it on youtube
@mfkr616 then, you don't know anything about Kurt.
