nah guys. austin romine is the yankees future catcher, probably sometime in 2011. Cervelli is good, don't get me wrong, but he's a singles hitter. He'll make an excellent backup though.
I don't see Romine as the Yankees future catcher, more so as trade bait. Don't get me wrong Romine is very good, but I don't see him as the Yankees future catcher
Then where do you see Cervelli? As the Yankees starting catcher or full time backup catcher. Don't get me wrong, Cervelli is a good defensive catcher, but he's a singles hitter at best and their's no way his offense is better than what Romine will be able to do when he reaches the minors. Montero would be a good bet for catcher but he wouldn't be a very good defensive one either so you worry about him as well.
How about JR Murphy, the kid they just drafted. A ton of potential offensively, but a lot remains to be seen in terms of his defense. If I were ranking these guys offensively, it would be:
Montero > Romine > Cervelli (right now) > JR Murphy
You're right he is not a power hitter. Honestly I think Cervelli has potential to be a starter in the bigs. Montero, I'm not going to comment on his defensive skills yet because he is only 19 & still learning. Too early to tell. He has got a long way to go, but his bat is something very special. Romine might surprise me & stay , but I do think that 1 of the 3 is going to be trade bait
What a fag
