  • What a damn shame that Leonard Smith got off so easily. From what it seems, he took the life of not only a great ballplayer, but a great human being. RIP Lyman Bostock

  • I will never forget Lyman Bostock!

  • Lyman Bostock was my cousin my mothers oldest sister's only child whom she loved dearly. The guy that killed him not only killed Lyman he hurt our whole family and his mother Annie Bostock died of a broken heart....

  • Lyman was one of my all-time favorite players. The fact that he offered his April 1978 salary back to the Angels due to his lack of production tells what character he had. How many of today's players would do this? Lyman's untimely death proves how fragile life really is and how each day is a blessing.

  • I am from Mexico, and of course, the way LAW is applied DO SUCKS in my country; but I couldnt believe law system in the USA be so weak and care so much about killers like this freak; just "insanity plea" and that's all, 6 months of treatment and go free?....PEOPLE WHO KILL MUST NOT WALK FREE OVER STREETS; GOD DAMN "INSANITY" WILL NOT JUSTIFY NO ONE FOR THEIR ACTS.

  • Wow, what a tremendous post. The death of Lyman Bostock should never be forgotten, nor the quality of his character.

  • An enormous tragedy. The law changed in that state as a result of this verdict. The outcry from the people was loud. Now it's not so easy to get off with an insanity plea. And from what I know, now, even if you are found insane at the time of the crime you may still do time. If this happened now he would do time.

  • Looks like Smith has been paying for this crime just by living.

    The system does not work.

    Thank you for the post!

  • I remember seeing Bostock play. You knew right off the bat he was one special ball player. Such a tragedy that his life was cut short by some loser.

  • this happen near my home i remember it well. U see back then famous people would hang out with common people and Bostock had played in chicago that day and came down to gary to party friends (so it was said). Now I understand why if u make it big stay out the hood...

  • I remember my big brother telling me about him but i never knew all these details. Thanks.

  • Lawyers. Ugh!
