what a darlig video, i think you have a babysitter there named Gumby. I love the way these 2 interact together, Gumby is very gentle with Abby. Ya'll have done a wonderful job with your bird!
I cannot tell you how many times I have viewed this video (as an eclectus owner) and pointed others to it over the past two years. This is beautiful and touching proof that not all parrots need to be "hands-off" when children are present. It's high time I told you so, eh? Thank you so very much.
What a darling video! I also have 7 parrots and my granddaughter handled all of them from the time she was 3. Gumby is beautiful and very confident. I had a female Ekkie that was also wonderful with kids. I took her to daycare and preschools all the time. Beautiful family. Thanks for sharing.
My husband and I adore this video, and at any point during the day one of us will exclaim "There you Gumby!" and we crack up laughing. Very precious little family you have.
I absolutely love this video. I never knew parrots could be so playful, especially with children. I am curious if he goes to the bathroom on the floor or is he "potty" trained?
He is not "potty" trained. When we moved to our current home 3 years ago, we made sure we had a place with wood floors near his cage to make any accidents easier to clean. I've noticed he prefers to be in an elevated location before relieving himself so he won't get any on himself.
We share our space with 7 parrots including 2 male Ekkies - Bravo and Bodhi. Bravo is 13 years old and potty trained himself when he was young. Bodhi is still too young to do this - only a few months. Like you mention here, Ekkies are particular about where they poop, so they naturally potty train themself if you are mindful of their behavior and needs.
Continuation: When I say potty trained, I don't mean literally trained to poop in a toilet - that wouldn't make sense for a parrot, especially when he's in his cage. But he never goes on us, even when sitting on my shoulder for an hour or more.
Continuation: I can take him off my shoulder when we're out with him, put him on a branch or some type of perch, say "poop" and he goes immediately. I then put him back on my shoulder and we're off again - completely mess-free as long as I choose the right potty perch.
So, if you aren't around to tell him, will he "poop" on his own anyway? I read that with some birds training them to "poop" on command can have its disadvantage.
Oohhh, how I wish it was longer, I really enjoyed it so much it made me smile watching the 2 playful dolls. So great thanks for sharing and thanks to Winston who gave me the link.
We are older parents (currently 50 and 47) who met late in life and assumed we would never have children. Two years after Gumby came into our lives, we were blessed with our daughter, Abigail. We joke that we decided to have a child so someone could take care of Gumby when he outlives us.
hi i really like these kind of parrots and i really want to get one but i dont know whats the price for them can u give me and idea of how much they cost please
Our parrot was $1200 and the cage was $800. That was six years ago. Just remember, they are a long term committment. They could live 50 years or more. We joke that we had a child to take care of our parrot after we are gone, because he will probably out live us.
wow , it amazing how you manage to bring both children and parrots together , because i cannot imagine how a parrot will react when it is getting annoyed when a child pointed a finger at it beak .
This was the cutest video I have seen! Im always watching videos on Parrots and this is hands down my favourite. Love when he chases her around the table! I have a B&G Macaw and they are quite the entertainers.
I rated this with 5 stars! Awesome. Sweet Abby looks like the new millenium Shirley Temple with her pretty curls! She may have a future in acting, lol! Great video, thanks for sharing!
This is just the cutest thing Ive ever seen! We just got my 5 year old grandson a sun conure because ours loves him so much and vice versa! Thanks so much for sharing! I've favorited this!
Awwwwwww, how cute! Abby is such a cutie, and so gentle with Gumby. Lots of children her age would have been rough, but Abby is just Darling with Gumby. What happened to Gumby? You mentioned Pepper and Chewy as your 2 Ekkies.
That is absolutely adorable. Both of them are so cute.
