I am in the Bujinkan, and I find this video hilarious. Like every art, we have doofuses. I feel truly blessed in having the opportunity to train with those I choose. One point in this video is very true, the credentials of a member are proven through the quality of their training, not the rank on the paper.
I think the point to this clip is revelant, ego is losing the battle. evolution is the same as any art. Steven haze is doing what was in his training, same as iga and koga a long time ago. I think its unfair to class any either as inferior or superior arts. Steven haze has contrubuited soo much to the art. Though i do think its unfair to take egotistal people and refer to the teachings, of bukinkan. Any martial art will never boost there ability, these are the follies of any warrior.
BTW, there are still a handful of great teachers & fighters left in the Bujinkan, but we don't even use the Bujinkan name anymore. Not one of the other folks this cartoon talks about (like those who badmouth me & constantly quote Hatsumi) have the balls to show up at my school. Any one of my students who has been training for three months could beat most 5th Dans in the system with one hand tied behind their back. Kudos to whomever took the time to make this brilliant video
I am a Bujinkan 15th Dan who has been in the system since 1987 - the days when we actually practiced real technique & knew how to fight. I love this cartoon, as sadly this is where the art is at now, & it has become a joke. I run a school that still teaches real combat (much like Hayes), with none of the slow motion, straight arm that stays in place, magical ballet. All I hear from these other sad little instructors who don't have lives & need to teach to be revered is everything in this video.
rofl. I trained for for 6 years, devoted my life to the art, went to japan, trained 6 days a week and did everything i was told was right for my training. Felt like a real bad ass till my friend asked me to go with him to a BJJ/Muai Thai gym and got beaten up by ppl that hod only trained for 3 months LOL
@jdavize Not in mine. There was an exercise like sticking hands where we would shove each other off balance, but not as many punching routines. I guess the prevalence of vertical punches is similar.
I guess it was not a complete waste of time, being that I never will give up the Kusari Fundo.

I'm a GojuKai and I had SOOO much faith in Ninpo, but I fell out of faith in it after seeing most of it's techniques and lack of realistic training. I laughed when I saw that the Buj teaches people only how to defend against a slow motion lunge rather than an actual punch. It's sad what Ninjer's believe.
@jdavize My friend trains in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. Guess what, I saw those techniques first hand. The techniques are way TOO technical for even a "Ninja" to perform in a realistic situation effectively. Sorry if I offended your fantasy, but take something a little bit more realistic like Boxing or Karate. 'K? Thanks.
funny enough, this is exactly what bujinkan wants you to think about them? There are good teachers and bad teachers in every martial art. There are practicality and bullshit in every fighting style so why single the bujinkan out?
I wrote a comment and now when I watched full video. You mention "master" Richard Van Donk. I am in Bujinkan and still I know that he is a douche too. Bujinkan insiders know who are real masters and who are just show offs. It is important that we can find real pearls a sea of egocentric masters.
@ipdy Hi. I too train in the Bujinkan in Canada. My Teacher was one of the first to go to Japan in the early years to train under Soke. He tells me stories sometimes about training with Hayes and he still respects him, but does not condone him leaving the Bujinkan. He also talks about Richard Van Donk. Apparently he is referred to among the Shihan in Japan as Dickie VD, so I do not believe that the Bujinkan has much respect for him!
People like Van Donk is disgracing the Bujinkan and are picked up by those who make these kind of videos. I know Hayes is good at ninjutsu, but he is still a traitor.
@ipdy I don't know that I would call Hayes a traitor. Yes he left and started his own thing, but it's is his own interpretation of Ninjutsu, and he openly admits that, and has changed the name to something that would not disgrace Hatsumi. I think he did get caught up in a bit of greed though.
Really? Insulting Bujinkan.I train in Bujinkan and I have a great teacher. Yes there are teachers who are douches and doesn't understand ninjutsu and they are doing it just for their ego. And don't you dare insulting Hatsumi. If it wasn't for him, we would not know about ninjutsu even now. This martial art changed my life. I Experienced and felt it my self. @ipdy What you say is true, but I think that the same can be said for most any Martial Arts organization. The Bujinkan is simply talked about more because it is so different and as such a lot of people think it is fake, because it does not look like other more common Martial Arts.

@ninjamixer I would be more than happy to test my skills and I only have a leather belt lol. I'm not very used to handling the ninjato because it's longer than the sword I'm used to and it's got more weight but man does it cut like a dream. I've never been able to get my other sword to cut so effortlessly and I was simply amazed at how you can split a EMPTY gallon in mid air. The sword is wonderful, it's me that needs to be improved. I've only gotten to use it maybe 3 times...
@TheRichsalley I have never followed anyone, I have learned from everyone. I've been learning from him for around 5 years now. I have always tried to understand things before I say if they are right or wrong and if I understand the logic behind it, then I try it and if I see can think of a way I could apply it, I learn it make it a reflex as much as I can. If I find that it's not likely that I will need it, I still try it just in case. I have yet to learn anything useless from anyone.

@TheRichsalley I'm not really into history, it's mostly lies far as I care and a lot of the skills needed in the past aren't needed now, so I learn what I see could be useful to me. I have learned parts of all the above and some things that you haven't questioned. I have also learned things from more than just him as I said before.
@TheRichsalley Nope, but I have lived and learned from my mistakes. If I see something done, I then know it can be done and I don't stop until I'm able to do it. Sure, I could learn faster in a school with a teacher to show me what I'm doing wrong. However, I learn very fast from my mistakes and with a reference to look at, I can learn even faster. I don't like school and I learn better by myself, I know this because I was training to be in the army at one point.
@TheRichsalley No, as much as they wanted me to, I don't fight for the reasons of another. I fight my own fights and don't want to be a part of who kills and fights others for someone else's reasons. If I ever see reason to fight, I will go where I am needed on my own and help them on my own instead of it being demanded of me to do so. I like my freedom and I won't allow it to be taken from me by anyone. I obey the law because its logical and when it isn't, I don't.
@ninjaplease10 Yes, about 6 or 7 years ago and that's why I started training. I know my current limits and intend to push them farther. Yup, I thought I was all that and I was far from humble back then until I started watching fighters and admitted to myself that I was weak compered to them and even now I admit I'm weak but I'm far stronger than I was and I haven't stopped training. I'm not the type to think I can do anything before trying it first and when I fail, I learn from my mistakes.

Here in the murder capital of the USA, I think that stands true here, ever animals want to fight but the same applies for them. I haven't put myself in a situation where I'd have to fight for my life because I make it well known that death is the outcome be it me or them or me and a few of them, someone's going to die.

I am well trained to back up my words and I make sure of that. I've learned to be more safe than sorry so to speak. I don't think I should say much more than that. But as I've said, I learn from many, not just one.

He hasn't tried to get anything from me and in fact, he gave me a really nice sword and I didn't have to pay a red cent, I've also learned a lot from him and have applied it when needed and found his teachings to be very effective when applied correctly. I'm far from perfect but I use my understanding and wisdom to become better.

I do a lot of shipping, I know the price of shipping and to ship that bamboo, guessing the weight based on motion in the video and going by the size you'd be out of almost $30 shipping that depending on where you were shipping it to. So $10 is more a price that can't be beat, I'd get it just to have some fun and maybe grow some too but that's just me.

@jylp4u This is actually my point exactly. You cannot learn Martial Arts effectively over Youtube, regardless if the MA is real or fake. Why because you have no one evaluating you to know if you are doing something right or wrong, and correcting you. The only way to learn effectively and properly is to be taught directly by a qualified instructor in person. Without the fundamental principals and theory behind each technique, it is just a bunch of movements without meaning and will not work!

I think the point to this clip is revelant, ego is losing the battle. evolution is the same as any art. Steven haze is doing what was in his training, same as iga and koga a long time ago. I think its unfair to class any either as inferior or superior arts. Steven haze has contrubuited soo much to the art. Though i do think its unfair to take egotistal people and refer to the teachings, of bukinkan. Any martial art will never boost there ability, these are the follies of any warrior.

BTW, there are still a handful of great teachers & fighters left in the Bujinkan, but we don't even use the Bujinkan name anymore. Not one of the other folks this cartoon talks about (like those who badmouth me & constantly quote Hatsumi) have the balls to show up at my school. Any one of my students who has been training for three months could beat most 5th Dans in the system with one hand tied behind their back. Kudos to whomever took the time to make this brilliant video

I am a Bujinkan 15th Dan who has been in the system since 1987 - the days when we actually practiced real technique & knew how to fight. I love this cartoon, as sadly this is where the art is at now, & it has become a joke. I run a school that still teaches real combat (much like Hayes), with none of the slow motion, straight arm that stays in place, magical ballet. All I hear from these other sad little instructors who don't have lives & need to teach to be revered is everything in this video.

@jdavize Not in mine. There was an exercise like sticking hands where we would shove each other off balance, but not as many punching routines. I guess the prevalence of vertical punches is similar.
I guess it was not a complete waste of time, being that I never will give up the Kusari Fundo.

@jdavize So Hatsumi pretty much decided to let it all die? Like the last Soke of Koka Ryu Ninjutsu let that die? This could only mean that all "ninja" are going to die out, oh jeez. I'm a GojuKai and I had SOOO much faith in Ninpo, but I fell out of faith in it after seeing most of it's techniques and lack of realistic training. I laughed when I saw that the Buj teaches people only how to defend against a slow motion lunge rather than an actual punch. It's sad what Ninjer's believe.

The techniques are way TOO technical for even a "Ninja" to perform in a realistic situation effectively. @ipdy Hi. I too train in the Bujinkan in Canada. My Teacher was one of the first to go to Japan in the early years to train under Soke. He tells me stories sometimes about training with Hayes and he still respects him, but does not condone him leaving the Bujinkan. He also talks about Richard Van Donk. Apparently he is referred to among the Shihan in Japan as Dickie VD, so I do not believe that the Bujinkan has much respect for him!

@ipdy I don't know that I would call Hayes a traitor. Yes he left and started his own thing, but it's is his own interpretation of Ninjutsu, and he openly admits that, and has changed the name to something that would not disgrace Hatsumi. I think he did get caught up in a bit of greed though.

Budo in Japanese is a term for "Martial Arts" or "Martial Way" Normally referencing modern "Gendai" schools that focus heavily on philosophical principles behind the arts. I'm not very used to handling the ninjato because it's longer than the sword I'm used to and it's got more weight but man does it cut like a dream. I've never been able to get my other sword to cut so effortlessly and I was simply amazed at how you can split a EMPTY gallon in mid air. The sword is wonderful, it's me that needs to be improved. I've only gotten to use it maybe 3 times...

I have always tried to understand things before I say if they are right or wrong and if I understand the logic behind it, then I try it and if I see can think of a way I could apply it, I learn it make it a reflex as much as I can. If I find that it's not likely that I will need it, I still try it just in case. I have yet to learn anything useless from anyone.

@TheRichsalley Nope, but I have lived and learned from my mistakes. If I see something done, I then know it can be done and I don't stop until I'm able to do it. Sure, I could learn faster in a school with a teacher to show me what I'm doing wrong. However, I learn very fast from my mistakes and with a reference to look at, I can learn even faster. I don't like school and I learn better by myself, I know this because I was training to be in the army at one point.

Yup, I thought I was all that and I was far from humble back then until I started watching fighters and admitted to myself that I was weak compered to them and even now I admit I'm weak but I'm far stronger than I was and I haven't stopped training. I'm not the type to think I can do anything before trying it first and when I fail, I learn from my mistakes.

He hasn't tried to get anything from me and in fact, he gave me a really nice sword and I didn't have to pay a red cent, I've also learned a lot from him and have applied it when needed and found his teachings to be very effective when applied correctly. I'm far from perfect but I use my understanding and wisdom to become better.

I do a lot of shipping, I know the price of shipping and to ship that bamboo, guessing the weight based on motion in the video and going by the size you'd be out of almost $30 shipping that depending on where you were shipping it to. So $10 is more a price that can't be beat, I'd get it just to have some fun and maybe grow some too but that's just me.

@jylp4u This is actually my point exactly. You cannot learn Martial Arts effectively over Youtube, regardless if the MA is real or fake. Why because you have no one evaluating you to know if you are doing something right or wrong, and correcting you. The only way to learn effectively and properly is to be taught directly by a qualified instructor in person. Without the fundamental principals and theory behind each technique, it is just a bunch of movements without meaning and will not work!
