@cmivfx - When "your entire company almost goes down the drain due to three failed windows server machines", you clearly need to hire someone with a clue to set up your infrastructure.
All the people saying "Windows sucks" or "Macs suck" are clearly just kids with no concept of the real world.
If you have a dedicated graphics workstation, it makes no difference if you're running OSX, Linux or Windows; the application will behave basically the same.
And seriously, you paid for Smoke ($15000) and you can't afford to pay for Windows 7 64-bit ($135), which has better GPU drivers than Linux or OSX? Yeah, I'm sure you're using a legal version of Smoke...
also, if you have a windows machine... just install linux to start getting used to it. Heck, you can even install OSX on a windows machine to run NATIVELY. so technically you can run Smoke on a FORMER WINDOWS MACHINE and it will run natively. NO EMULATION. AS more and more people begin phasing out windows only apps, both osx and lin will be there waiting for you FOR CHEAP or FREE. MS charges too much. its just insane. AND its all JUNKWARE. non of it is worth it.

Just as it's a bit odd to see someone associated with cmiVFX sounding LIKE a clueless FANBOY and writing RANDOM words in CAPITALS. If cmiVFX's "online courses" FOLLOW your STYLE, I guess your last sentence can be used to describe them.
people, please understand that windows is not good for editing and audio. Even tho you can tweak any OS to do ANYTHING. Windows is really just the odd duck out right now. Studios that use Linux (the large studios all do) let OSX plugin with simple unix commands. You can also use QT to develop highend applications so that when you compile, you can get linux and OSX builds really quick. Since windows is really the only non unix OS these days..... its almost forcing itself into failure.
@paulosemifusa OSX has this great kernel, but a ugly GUI, its just a copy of Unix modified, Windows is good, but it has a registry...and you need to defragment the disk. So much more is developed for Windows, it's so much more compatible. Yes Mac OSX has Final cut , Processing, ios Development, Smoke, Inferno and other autodesk products, Apple is so much more exspensive and it's "Iegal" to install on with windows hardware with a dualBoot or with VMware
