  • was your system installed and montered by a company?

  • change tone! horn code 3

  • What field for programming did you use for power down and back up after a fire alarm? I find this as a big issue on my FA168CPS (20P) for any fire alarm which requires manual restart to clear latch of a 4-wire detector. When using this field, I'm assuming it will only execute for fire alarms only?

  • @ti17540 Sorry for the late response. This feature is built in to the panel I had at the time (Vista 10SE). The 20P will not do this. In order to reset 4-wire detectors on the 20P, you have to use one of the built in triggers (or a relay). This is clearly explained in the installer/programming manuals, but if you need more help, send me a PM.

  • what did you use to set off the detector?

  • @jman66053 lol a magnet !

  • @djkid9 oh i didnt know that

  • @jman66053 alot of american detectors use magnets to test but here in the uk we either use smoke spray or buttons check my videos for uk detector tests and if u watch ud probally wonder how old i am . . . im 13!

  • @djkid9 lol im 13 too

  • nice crib!!!

  • Nice... A SpectrAlert Advance mini-horn.

  • at the start of the video what you was having got in the hand??

  • @DJNEMBRO a magnet to set the detector off.

  • not a safe idea to video your house and then post in public. (feed backs)

  • what's the horn that you have outside?

  • Why does the system shut down and then restart after testing the smoke dector with a magnet? Mine does that too, I just thought somthing was wrong with it.

  • The system doesn't actually shut down- on the Vista SE series panels, the auxiliary current is interrupted during a fire alarm reset, instead of having to use a trigger or relay to do it. Convenient, but since the keypad is also connected to the auxiliary power, the keypad is momentarily interrupted too. Nothing to worry about.

  • Okay, good to know! Thanks. I have another question for you. My system has an Ademco 6128 fixed Display keypad. I just ordered a

6150RF keypad. Can I just switch them out without having to reprogram any zones or codes?

  • As far as the keypad function (not RF function), yes. The system featured in the video originally had a 6128 as well, and upgraded without any programming to a 6160 (short of zone descriptors, which you won't need to worry about). The only thing you will have to set is the keypad address (which is stored in the keypad). If you have a Vista 10SE, then you'll set its address to 31 (non-addressable mode). The keypads instructions will describe how to do it.

  • Okay, thanks! And it doesn't sound like its too difficult to program wireless zones.

  • Cool.

Just ordered a replacement board for my 10P.. upgrading it to a 20SE. Also replacing the broken 6160 keypad with a 6139R. (alpha, red for Fire). Should work out nicely...

  • @Garner65 that happend at a school. A red keypad was doing the same

  • Are you using the factory cabinet?

Or are you using the VISTA-ULKT?

I wouldn't think a battery of that size would fit in the factory cabinet...

  • Its the factory cabinet. Two of those batteries will actually fit in it.

  • After researching it a little more I'm not really sure. This cabinet was originally installed by an alarm company, not by me, so I'm not sure if this is the standard Vista 10SE cabinet. I've upgraded since this video to a Vista 10P and its the same cabinet that comes with that system, which is UL listed for commercial burglary.

  • Thanks. I am in the process of tearing out an OLD, OLD panel and replacing it with a 10P.

How many amp-hours is your battery rated for? I ordered a 12Ah battery, and I really hope it fits. If not, Ill have to drop 50 bucks on a bigger UL commercial cabinet.

  • This battery is 7 AH. Also, I checked the installer's manual, and the cabinet in this video is the factory Vista 10SE cabinet. It measures 12.5" W x 14.5" H x 3" D. This cabinet ships standard with all the Vista panels. The optional "UL Cabinet" is 14.5" W x 18" H x 4.3" D. I don't quite understand why this is referred to as the "UL cabinet", as both the smaller and larger sizes are UL listed for commercial burglary.

  • Good to know the magnetic switch works, but you still have no idea if the detector will reliably detect smoke.

  • I've heard some of the honeywell systems have voice on top of the same sounding fire alarm when it is triggered it says "fire fire smoke detected, remain clam, leave immediately" well something like that. Is your system monitored so a call centre will receive a fire or intruder signal.

  • Some of the higher-end models have voice/siren drivers on board (eg. Apex models) that would likely sound as you describe. This system is not currently monitored.

  • this vid made me realize that i love the MHW.

  • I just bought 2 of those smokes... I'm gonna put em up and wire them in.

    Mine are the 4-wire type.

    Also, they are very small!

  • what did you put next to the smoke detector

  • That is the Reset Process

  • ?...

  • The Reset of the system so that it can clear the alarm.

  • no the thing that set off the alarm

  • Read two comments down.

  • Why did your alarm keypad go blank and then come back on, as if it restarted itself. Was that like a reset thing it was going through?

  • The smoke detector and the keypad are powered by the same circuit (12VDC aux power), which interrupts to reset the smoke detector. Therefore, when this occurs, both lose power.

  • i like it but what was that black thing you started the test with?

  • A magnet; the upside-down 'T' on the left side of the smoke detector has a reed switch underneath, which activates a test alarm. This detector is designed for use with commercial fire alarm systems too, where a test button wouldn't be a good idea.

  • you should hook up your AS for this instead. That would be cool

  • Well, I wanted something unmarked since this is used for fire and burglary (plus my AS is 24 volts and not for pulsed circuits). I was thinking about a white Wheelock HS for this spot, but decided on a piezo instead.

  • is that piezo sounder loud?

  • Yeah its pretty loud, at least as loud as an 85 dB smoke alarm; it can be heard throughout the house.

  • Loud alarms discurage burglars

  • Sick, man!

  • wow nice system, you should install a second keypad!

  • Nice house.

  • lol

  • Nice system

  • Awesome
